  1. It's every division. There's a good reason for the change --- it sets up a consistent measurement that can be taken whether or not the shooter is wearing the belt at the time..... There was quite a bit of discussion about this rule change during the time the proposed rules were being discussed on the USPSA forums --- in part because the initial proposal had a much tighter limit for distance from the belt.... Wow. So now those of us with the spare tire challenge have to deal with guns sticking us in the sides and the safety issue of grabbing shirts instead of all gun or just not play. I dont really like doing things in spite of rule but I guess i will have to and see where it leads. Wish i had known about this when it was being discussed , I would have bent a few ears. I had more faith in our leadership and I was wrong. Does anybody know if there was a breakdown vote on these individual rules? Anybody make a device to get around this rule? To move the belt out away from the body since that is the new measuring point.
  2. I thought the same thing and then it dawned on me that it was because they all had so much respect for him and what he did. Great Movie. Not at all what I expected when i went to see it so it does have that unexpected twist at the end.
  3. The old rule of 2" from the torso was fair but 2 inches from the inside of the belt is pretty discriminatory. Why was the rule changed? It would only hurt those that have that spare tire. I wasnt aware of this rule change and am not too happy about it. Is there a good reason that i dont see? Now we need some type of shield that goes inside the belt so we can draw the gun without issues. Who does this stuff without thinking? Is it just in Single Stack or is it in every division now?
  4. So would a Stingray with just an offset spacer be legal as long as the front strap is above the belt? Some us shapely challenged shooters need some space.
  5. And if your gun won't slidelock and you shoot it dry, you get to do one more action after the mag is changed - cycling the action to get a round into the chamber versus just thumbing the slide stop - getting you back on target and shooting that much slower. Yep, that one more action is about the same as the action of releasing the slidestop. So its a wash but with no lock back you dont risk breaking the ejector or having it lock back when you dont want it to. Also lock back may stop the dreaded click but it doesnt stop the attempt to pull the trigger with the slide back. I have seen it happen so many times. Slide locked back and the shooter not realizing it and attempting to pull the trigger with nothing happening. I believe it actually takes time realize its locked back, more so than hereing the click and knowing whats going on. Bottom line is if you dont know whats happening and why, you are done. So slide lock back or not you have to know when it will lock back and it wont. you have to know how many rounds you have or dont have. If you dont you are only looking for a bandaid fix to the real problem.
  6. Current spot prices are not what they pay. The dist has a profit margin. They do lock into pricing to ensure future supply and some price continuity. They also buy the copper processed into cups and lead into extrusions. So their actual cost on the raw product is much higher than figuring the spot price. Also lead is about 3 times higher then it once was and copper is about 50% higher. If we think the price of the finished product is driven completely by raw materials we are mistaken. They also have increased Labor costs, increased shipping costs, increased costs across the board. The industry is equipment intensive which requires constant maintenance and repair. I could tell from things that were said to me in the past that Zero was not very profitable, now i assume they are profitable due to the demand. At least we will have a bullet manufacturer in the short term. They already were a great vlaue and why they were one of the leaders of supply to this sport. They still are a good value relative to the competition. Its a high quality product with a product offering that fits our sports and is competitively priced. Now later this year I am told there will be an adjustment if the prices hold where they are. Dont expect a great reduction since the majority of their costs is not in the raw material. They sell a finished product.
  7. Yes we knew the ending but for me I didnt know the story. I still had to flash between thinking maybe somehow they might succeed to reality where I knew they failed. I didnt realize how close they were to changing history. As far as my Sgt York comment. We watched it last might for the first time from start to finish. Dint realize it was about WWI. Somehow I got the stories of Audrey Murphy and Sgt York mixed up. I am planning a trip to the York Museum since its just in our backyard.
  8. I was going to answer this but when I started thinking about i realized there were many things that clicked and each resulted in a step up the ladder. So I dont think its just one thing unless maybe you are talking about going up one level. Not necessarily a class since your improvement may be at levels plateauing between or within the class break points.
  9. Love the Museum as well. Been there twice and would go again anyday. As for the Movie- I wouldn't consider myself a WWII buff but i am fascinated by WWII. In fact New years Eve night we watched The Longest Day, so many old stars in that one. Just got Sergeant York in today from Netflix. I took my son Ryan, 16, and we loved it. He said it was one of the best movies he had seen. Now I appreciate the history and the fact they tried to keep it as historically accurate as possible. What was its purpose? I hope it may teach some in our society about what really matters in life and the sacrifices many have made to fight evil and be free. I mean today's society thinks the world is ending when they run out of cell range. I always wandered how the German people, as a group and as individuals, could have let those things happen. During the movie i thought maybe one purpose was to help remove that stigma from the German people. I have to admit it did do that for me.
  10. I watched Myth Busters where they tested this. They found bullets fired straight up perpendicular to the earth fell to the ground without lethal force. Now bullets fired at an angle were not tested and i believe the people getting killed are from bullets fired at an angle. Not that I condone shooting in the air although I could shoot bird shot in the air behind my house and only a few cows may get some shot falling on them. We shoot a monthly match where the shotgunners up on the hill shoot over us and we get shot raining down on us sometimes.
  11. Credentials was questioned so I will ad that I do have a degree in accounting. I did not take the CPA exam so I am not a CPA. Fraud is considered when you understate your income by more than 1/3. At least that was the factor when i was in school. You will have some CPA's who will do everything to keep you out of an audit and will want the audit to show clean. This makes him look good and have less headaches. Then there is the CPA who will say when in doubt deduct. So its not all black & white.
  12. Disclaimer- Consult with your CPA. If you advertise your business anywhere it is a legitimate expense. Nothing says it has to always be a smart choice of advertising dollars or that you have to justify the results of advertising dollars. If you can show any results from that advertising then the better but i would expect that if you had a line item of advertising on your financial's that it wouldn't even raise a question. People do this all the time with their vehicles. Advertise on it and write it off as an expense. If you take a trip where you shoot 2 days with shirts advertising and you have 2 days with no shooting, just fun days then you cant write the whole trip off. There may be some new rules since I was in school that I dont know about and thats why you need to consult your CPA.
  13. If somebody is pointing a gun at me then I will act accordingly to stop the threat, RO or not. If that means hollering hey dumb ass, or STOP then thats what i will do. Once the threat has passed then I have no standing and it reverts back to those with the official standing to make the call. I had this happen once where I, my 2 boys and a girl friend of theirs all got swept. I chewed on the shooter and the RO. He wasnt DQ'd. The RO argued that he didnt have his finger in the trigger guard so it was OK. I dont think he was certified and is no longer an active shooter. I went back and explained to the shooter how close he was to killing a kid and explained how important it was for him to make sure his muzzle was pointed in a safe direction at all times. How close was he? about .018. Thats all it took for the sear to release the hammer.
  14. All good except for this. Overall is going to be Open, why pay the open winner more than the production winner? I agree that the divisions need to be treated as separate matches and awarded separately, BUT based on the entries for each division. So if the open division has 50 entries and production has 20 the available money in each division changes thus the open winner would get more than the Production winner. Same if it was reversed. Also all classes should not pay the same, it should be based on the number of competitors in each class. With all the Divisions and classes we have now a cash payback is so watered down why even attempt it. If you cant pay class winners back their entry fee its not worthwhile. Just lower the fee and do plaques. Give any sponsorship donations to the RO's as a token of appreciation for their time.
  15. Just saw a new Commercial from Lowes. It had many Lowes employees saying over and over " Merry Christmas". Last year employees were not allowed to say Merry Christmas The only downside is at the end the Corporate voice said lets go Holidaying with us.
  16. Troy, I am fond of most the days I spent at PASA but it does have quite a few drawbacks. The biggest complaint I had was the shooter was treated as a second class person by the park staff. If we didnt want to hike the hills and wanted to rent a golf cart we got raked over the coals. The shuttle was great when they had it. They wont let us park up on top even though there was room for those shooting up there. One time we did it anyway and were told that if we didnt get our cars out of there they would be moved with a tractor and a hay spike. If USPSA ever leased that facility again I surely hope they dont let those same individuals treat USPSA's customers the way they did. We will always have those kind of issues when we use somebody elses facility. As far as it being possible financially, it just depends on the priorities of those in charge. As I said its a long term goal. Sure we dont have the capability to buy 1000 acres and build it all up the way we envision it immediately, but I say it can be done.
  17. Not to throw the lead pollution aside but it is a problem that all ranges face. The fact of whether it is a range we own or range we want to use its still going to come into play either way. So it shouldn't be a determining factor to throw out the idea. If we had our own range we could make sure it is handled properly and the range isnt shut down. If all the ranges get shutdown in this country then we dont have a sport or USPSA. If people complain it may be because USPSA isnt treating this as a consumer product. The event needs to be something the members will want to attend. If they dont then USPSA management is failing to produce a product the consumer demands. If the event in itself is desirable , the location will not be a factor to the majority. You will always have a few that will be heard above everybody else. Those few will probably never be satisfied. I dont think the membership will be paying for those that attend the Nationals anymore than they already do. In fact i contend that the cost of hosting the match remotely will be recovered by our own facility. And again this isnt just about one match but a year round facility that should be managed to support itself. The higher quality match should drive higher attendance especially as the reputation grows.
  18. Question to Gary and Troy- Would it be easier, more cost effective and provide a higher level of stage quality if we had our own location that served as a "HOME" ?
  19. A gun friendly state and a local government that wants you there who will make sure the legal issues are handled. Some communities in the midwest will want the facility and help in this respect. A national organization is much different than a local club. I realize the problems locals clubs have. We have our own issues here. I am not saying it will be a bed of roses but I do think its the way USPSA should be headed in the long term. To discuss non profit status would require a tax accounting lesson but it could be structured as such, and operate as such.
  20. I like Vegas or Reno. Tulsa is a good facility but the mud has been a problem and from what I hear the owner doesn't think its a problem so it wont be fixed. Personally i think USPSA should purchase its own facility and use it for its own big events. Sure it may not be as attractive as a traveling destination, unless its around a place like vegas, but isnt it about the shooting? With the same facility being used year after year just think of the facilities we could build instead of tossing money away to set up a match at different venues. Not only the cost look at the quality and intensity of the props we could have? The quality of the stages and event would be at a level I dont think we have at a nationals now due to the roaming of the event. We could have a hall for sign ups, shooters meetings, meals, prize distribution and banquets. We could build accommodations for RO's and staff. We could build covered areas for the shooters and staff. With USPSA getting more diversified that facility could hold all kinds of matches year round. It could also host RO classes, shooting classes, training for LEO/MIL. I also think it should be located around a big travel destination location or in the center of the country close to a major city. Most of all in a gun friendly state. Cost of land would be an issue. It would be about going to the event and not the night life. Yes its a long term goal. Its where I think USPSA should be headed.
  21. But NIk, a one day outage wouldn't be a problem. We could just ship all the orders the next day. You know nobody cares that they get their order fast. I am considering taking it to compare and have a back up.
  22. Thats how I am getting the price. Its a bundled deal with the phone lines and long distance. I was just unsure of the level of service and the reliability.
  23. I have been given a proposal by ATT to set us up with DSL 6.0-512 which will only cost me about 40.00 a month compared to 99.00 I am paying time warner for cable. I understand Cable is a shared bandwidth and the DSL is dedicated. So in some of your opinions which is better? If neither is better than the other then I have to go with lower price. Downtime is a major concern also. With cable we have only been down a couple partial days over the past 1 1/2 years. I have never had DSL and just dont know how to compare. I know some of you have had both. This is a business level service.
  24. Calling them now as they are who we have had it on order from for 2 months now. They had us down for the wrong part that wasnt in stock. Thanks for the help. Wouldnt have called without knowing this.
  25. We all built SBR's recently so my dad had to have one. All the parts came in but the bolt & carrier. He has been waiting for about 6 weeks now. He wants to shoot it. Does anybody know who has some in stock?
