  1. So, KOOP, you running the Syrac/JP joint venture gas block? The one that has two screw clamp-up style, with adjuster screw facing forwards towards muzzle? Also, the one with the detent pin that you have to push in, to turn the gas screw?
  2. The two DQ's on our squad both failed to manipulate the safety on their shotgun, and dumped them with rounds in the pipe, and no safety 'on'... I shot mine dry every time i dumped it to make sure i didnt mess this part up.
  3. Amc, It had an 1/8" lip that locked the lil bastard on the stand, and it took a heck of pattern to rattle it off... with the face plate tipped way back at the top, it deflected the shot, and wouldnt always come tumbling down. IM should have done it for sure...
  4. Went to a match over weekend, and engaged some small steel that I had not come across at any other matches that I have shot in the past. I think they were Spectre targets, but could not find them on their web page. They were about 3 3/4" diameter, 1/2" thick, and were tipped back about 35-40 degrees, with a sliver trimmed off lower edge, and a shelf welded above the trimmed area to create a 'lip', that gripped the "T" stand like a falcon.... On the long jungle walk stage, there were 8 of these I think, and I did not realize that they were difficult to unseat, and knock off the stand. I walked past several, put sight on them, pulled trigger, saw a good pattern rock them, and kept going to finish the stage. After I was done, the RO said '2 Mikes', and I said, "Where???"... he said 'you engaged them, got a good sight picture, but most of your shot was around them, and not massed on the plate'... He said I used the wrong choke... I had an IC in the gun, and it has worked for every flat, upright, round, square, etc. plate I have ever shot at in the past... i guess its time to go to work a bit, and do some swapping of chokes, and pattern out to 18-20 yards, and see what it takes to get 80% hit on these little bastards... I was shooting an M1, with a 22" barrel, IC choke, with Noble Sport Trap Gold #7 1/2 2 3/4 drams...
  5. i agree with the fist under the stock for seated position, and that 100 yards is not really considered a 'long' shot, and should be able to be taken 'off-hand' standing or kneeling. Jflowers, what power optic were you using? sometimes too strong of an optic up close magnifies the movement you are describing.... I also took interest in this thread as I was at a match over the weekend, and there were several stages with 'decent' long range, from 100 yds to 285 yds... The first stage, I stood up and used top of the barricade, and had same trouble OP had, where my 6 power had the x-hairs all around the target... this was after a 40 yard dash from a pistol position. On next stage, I went prone, and engaged thru a low port, and got all 11 hits with only 1 miss, from 145 yards out to 275 yards, but was very slow in transition, and struggled to control breathing (another 60 yard dash from pistol shooting position)... So, is using the long magazine as bipod, and the weak hand holding foregrip the best method, or are there better methods for steady long range shots from prone position (not using any props, bags, etc. only you and the gun).
  6. On high HF pistol ammo: no, it was not needed. Factory 9mm knocked down everything we shot at
  7. I'd say it was a 6... It had a lot of movement, but you didn't HAVE to run... Some guys kinda jogged, others walked... I guess it depended on how fast you wanted to get there
  8. Overall top 5: Jerry Miculek Clint Upchurch Keith Garcia Rob Romero Chris Tilley
  9. Gonna put last bit of updates from this weekends regional match in SC... We started on stage 3, both rifle and SG loaded and in barrels, pistol loaded and under a lid from activator box.. On start, ran to barrels and most started w rifle, as there were 6 poppers at 65 yds and a 6-mini-plate Christmas tree that ate our lunch... My rifle took a crap on this stage, and I went single shot for half the targets... Grabbed SG, and took 12 small plates and mini poppers, then grounded and ran to pistol, flipped lid over on box, activated a drop turner and a swinger: 4 on paper. Went to stage 4 next, an all shotgun jungle run, and again got my lunch eaten... Started at port arms with 8 bird and a slug, had to ring a plate at 35 yds, then start engaging tiny 4" steel and clays, while walking/joggin up a steep hill. Finished up with three slugs on gong plates at 85-110 yds. I missed one small steel, and had to put 5 shots on another one to get it to fall: wrong damn choke size! Bought trigger spring and fixed rifle! Stage 5: pistol on steel and paper, then rifle off wall at plate rack @ 160 yds, 2 swingers @ 182, 2 swingers @ 160, and 2 swingers @ 125-140 Last stage, 6: run uphill taking 6 paper and 5 steel w pistol, then switch to rifle for 100 yd plate rack, 2 swingers @ 265, 2 swingers @ 185, and one at 145... Did really good on last two long rifle stages after fixing gun! This was a good match, ready for the next one!
  10. We then Went to stages 1 and 2, both of which were 2-bay stages, where we did all three guns with some running between bays... Tomorrow will be interesting, with two Long range rifle/ pistol stages coming, and a 24 round jungle run with shotgun mixing shot and slugs
  11. 8 started on platform, pistol loaded and holstered, SG loaded at port arms. 5 Clay thru low port to right, then 5 mini poppers thru low port to left, ground SG, then a 100 yard dash off platform and into woods to engage 6 paper w pistol, and post up in a box to take 6 poppers at 25-40 yds... Fun stage, got the heart rate up, and breathing heavy
  12. Sorry for the delay.... Ahem..... Stages have a good mix of all three guns except for a few... We started on 7 today, and it was cold as heck this morning, so we got a slow start... Most of is came down here thinking we were coming to Florida like weather, so not prepared for 33 degrees and rain... It didn't last long tho, and we carried on.. One good thing about this match is the venue at Clinton house is a natural terrain shooting center for clays shooting, and many of the stages are set in natural terrain using surrounding area in with props and targets, which is a nice break from all bay style matches... 7 starts out pistol holstered hot, shotgun on table hot, rifle hot port arms... 6 paper for rifle, ground it, engage steel plates w pistol, ground it, then get shotgun and go after 4-5 plates on hillside, a wicked heavy-set plate rack that most shot empty on only to reload and go dry again and still not get em all down... Then a short hike up hill with clays and small poppers, only to end up in a clearing with 4 small poppers that each threw clays when dropped.. I got lucky and shot it clean, but my cold stiff hands were slow on reloads, so I wasn't anywhere near fast, but was happy to be clean
  13. At Clinton SC today, got to look at the stages... Looks like it's gonna be good weather and good shootin... Some decent long range rifle steel, lots of shotgun, and some pistol sprinkled in for flavor
  14. Ready to head out to Clinton S Carolina for the 3 GN regional qualifier!!!
  15. Excited to be competing in this all shotgun match.. Heard good things about Joe Harris matches
  16. I'm also looking at a 10 hour drive, and workin on Monday, so earlier we can scoot on Sunday the better
  17. Awesome turnout. Good to see everyone, and had big fun shooting today
  18. Can't make the March match, but will definately drag some KY shooters down in April and beyond
  19. I agree on the current format.... Shoot 3gun two days I a row with some in the wind time... Has the club made any changes to improve drainage when it's wet and saturated? The videos I saw on y'tube show a lot of mud and mulch when ground is very wet.... Coming down anyways, just asking...
  20. Guys, If you signed up for and got a registration number for both Am and Pro matches, please email Linda at lchico@msn.com to tell her which match you will shoot, so she can adjust the wait list, and hopefully we can all get a slot.
