  1. Doug, Understand the weight vs cost for flying... The exact count will not be known until the crew is on the ground finishing up stages next week... the round counts are tentative, and can change as the lay of the land causes stage setup crew to alter plan for safety, reset access, etc. Good numbers to go by are 300 bird, 50 slug, 50 buck. Thats enough to cover whats on paper so far, and have some extra.
  2. Bring 50 to 100 extra rounds of slugs, birdshot, and buckshot, over Bryan's estimated round count and you should be covered
  3. I picked up several gizmos that you guys suggested, thanks for the input. I got the JP captured buffer spring from Shooters Connection, and also standard carbine buffer and spring. So, here's a little update on all the parts tried out in gun: MissionFirst Tactical stock fit very nicely, and the anti-snag para-cord addition works well also. The standard carbine buffer system works ok, but is noisy, and is just ok. I will need to get different weights of buffers to optimize this option (Taccom ULW, H1, H3, etc). The JP captured spring buffer runs awesome! it is a bit heavy, but is very quiet, and worth the coin for how smooth it operates. The Hiperfire 24C trigger is impressive! it has a very nice break, resets smoothly, and is easy to get nice doubles at 25-35 yds in the A zone. Only complaint i had with this setup as a drop-in, it does not want to function well with the JP ambi safety set screw, so went back to a mil-spec left side safety for now. The Lancer L15 lower is beautiful, and I love the fit and finish of the replaceable mag wells. I will be drawing the current aluminum magwells in cad, and machining them out of delrin plastic going forward, to shave some additional weight, and give me something else to tinker with! With the addition of the collapseable stock, I was able to move my 1x6 scope forward a bit, which allows an easier cheek weld towards the charging handle. I'm running the stock in the 3rd position, and the reduced length of pull feels comfortable, and allows for good quick sight pictures. I sighted this new package in after work yesterday at 25 yards, then went to the Weds night indoor carbine match to see how it worked. Was very happy with the performance of all parts, and it allowed me to shoot the rifle faster, and more accurately. I tried tuning on the SLR sentry gas block, but it was pretty close to begin with, so a click in closed direction wouldnt hold bolt open after last shot. I will now tweak on the muzzle brake a little, and then get this thing cerakoted when summer gets here. I will try to get some pics posted up soon.
  4. Just got a setup from JoeBobOutfitters to try out on my belt... have been using AP customs, but they dont retain shells very well if you are moving and running around a lot.
  5. I have always used an ACE full sized stock, and JP lowmass rifle buffer system. Got a JP Stainless Lowmass carrier, an 18" JP barrel, and a rifle length adjustable SLR Sentry gas block. I have a 1x6 optic, and with it on 6x, the eyebox becomes a little harder to settle into quickly with respect to cheek weld, especially if theres been a lot of running. At the last 3gun match at Rockcastle, I shouldered a few of the other rifles buddies were shooting, and the guys who are using the 6 position carbine style stocks have it figured out! With the stock in close, and nose getting close to charging handle, the weld position is easier to hit without thinking about it... I purchased a MissionFirst Tactical stock and tube, and am looking for some input on where to start with the carbine buffer system...I realize its going to be a complete re-tune, but with all the wild builds i see on here, someone has been there done that Im sure... Right now, Ive got a standard carbine spring and buffer... Ive seen the Taccom units, but i am a little leary about getting too light, and getting 'bounce' going into battery. Any thoughts?
  6. I will be running my shotgun with a diminished capacity, but its got nothing to do with the tube size
  7. Jake, Just took one of the Sat PM/Sun AM slots... looks like its shaping up to be a big event... of course, I will wear a big Helmet, and practice each stage with my Gi Joe USPSA miniature warrior... I promise i wasnt just playing with dolls!!
  8. Had a great day shooting very fun stages Saturday! Thanks to Rockcastle club folks who worked to set this up for us.
  9. thats what I was thinking, and thanks, Koop... I could not go prone, due to fact we were shooting in a field that cattle graze in, so there were fresh green piles of chewed grass everywhere...!!
  10. Boom, You would want to send your barrel/shotgun off to have this installed, unless you are very proficient running a milling machine, or skilled with a triangle file set like Kurt... If you are patient, you can do this fitting by hand, but its easy to take too much out, and the dovetail fit ends up loose, etc. Spend $60, and send your gun and a rear sight to Steve Rose at Rose Action Sports...If you dont have a sight, go to Brownells and scratch one up... they are not too expensive... Kurt, Good call on cutting down the excess... I noticed when Steve put mine on, the center 'V' is a little tall, and the sides are way to tall... I have not cut mine down yet, but am working to get the center filed down so it lines up well... Was practicing yesterday, and having no trouble hitting IPSC target in the head at 85 yards... I'll post up a pic after cutting the 'wings' off so you can see sight picture
  11. Finally got a chance to get out and get some practice after installing new SLR gas block. Used a rangefinder to dial in a spot where we had a good backstop, and settled in at about 475 yards. Set up a 3' tall target, with a 6" Shoot-and-See sticker, and fired off 5 or 6 rounds using my 300 yard hold over, but putting it about 12" above the center. You can see the group at the top of the target, which is about what I was holding over... Im using a Kahles 1-6x24, with the SM2. there's a second dot just outside below the circle, and it sits just under target at 300 yds... I held it high for first group, and I fired quickly, as I would at a swinger in a competition... I was not steady, shooting from a one knee down position, and resting the handguard on fender of an ATV... there was a light cross wind, variable, from left to right... After first group, drove over to target, was pleased to see all the shots on paper, but a little high... So went back to shooting spot, took position again, and adjusted holdover down slightly... and voila! very good on elevation, just slightly right, some due to me moving around, and some due to light gusts... All in all, very happy now with repeatability, and I believe I wont suffer as badly at long swinging targets in next match hopefully!
  12. I helped run stage 3, and got to meet and watch a lot of very good competitors. A super match, and very glad to be a small part of it!
  13. Good info, trapr... I will pattern it and try out different chokes, and see what performs where... We've got some no-shoots with buck at the Benelli challenge, so I gotta practice up! Trey
  14. I couldn't find any flite control buck, so I picked up some federal low recoil 00 buckshot to pattern and try out... Says 1140 velocity on the box, so should shoot good, and test well
  15. Trapr, What choke you shooting buck w mostly? IC, M, or other?
  16. Trapr and Steve, Thanks for replies... I will try to locate some FC buck, and some other non FC stuff to use most of time Trey
  17. Needing to practice for Upcoming matches, and have never put any buckshot thru the M1... Wondered what you guys are using successfully for moderate to low recoil, and getting good hits on paper....
  18. Got the SLR sentry block installed. Fit and finish was excellent, and looks like it has .120 in of clearance on bottom side, so not going to contact handguard any longer... Should produce good results once gas pressure is adjusted
