  1. Rick has cut down a Dawson sight for me before to .070 and I LOVE it. He also does his magic of leaving a larger base with the thinner sight so it may last a little longer for you.... At least another option. I like the balance between the thin sight and the slightly larger dot over the Brazos.
  2. +1 for this blog. I jacked my elbow up with captains of crush to the point that I couldn't even walk past something without wincing in pain. I do these exercises every day now and it cleared it up entirely.
  3. I understand that USPSA will have to have their ducks in a row to do this but from an RO perspective I don't see any difference between this and a production or revolver guy RO'ing for an open guy. I believe the same issue is why the rules were changed for handling a dropped gun.
  4. That is what soft cases are for. It sounds like people are trying to plan on the absolute worst and expecting that will be every PCC shooter trying to sink the division before it has a chance. Pat Nope, I'm all for PCC. I just think there are better options then casing and I don't want to add something for someone to complain about. As far as it making my arms tired, I just think there are better things for an RO to do while someone is shooting.
  5. A pistol bag is very easy to carry. A rifle bag is larger, just imagine trying to get someone's pelican case to the end of the line.
  6. I was just looking at that same word and wondering if I should poke the bear.
  7. Found it 8.2.3 A course of fire must never require or allow a competitor to touch or hold a handgun, loading device or ammunition after the "Standby" command and before the "Start Signal".
  8. I'm looking for that for another reason as well, what rule number is that?
  9. I think bagging and un-bagging would slow things down. The RO already has a job to do and it shouldn't involve carrying someone's Pelican case to the end of the stage. I can also imagine the chaos of trying to get someone back to the beginning of the stage where they left their bag. I'm sure some ranges could have issues with it but I'm all for chamber flags and a dedicated muzzle direction. I'm also all for PCC, I think it sounds like a lot of fun and would be more exciting then Carry Optics. I would just like to see it introduced without limitations on equipment. If there is enough interest then maybe it will need to be divided up later but for now I would rather see a shoot what you brought division.
  10. A gunsmith should be able to open that up for you but I believe it's more common to change the front site. My gunsmith just milled my factory front site down to .1.
  11. Most of what I've loaded is Rainer Ballistics plated bullets. With the stock magazines I've had very few issues with RN, FN, HP or SWC. The Canyon Creek extended mags haven't been as reliable but have worked fine so far with the RN. SWC - 1.25 FN - 1.225 but 1.25 worked as well (Tried both do test the extended mags) RN - 1.26 HP - 1.25 The longer lengths also seem to work better with the extended mags for the XDS.
  12. Out of curiosity, what where the feeding issues with the 1.2?
  13. All I load is small pistol primer .45. I've ordered brass from BrassMan Brass a couple of times. They don't show it on their website but if you call and ask they have it. http://store.brassmanbrass.com/servlet/StoreFront
  14. I prefer PRP for trigger work. I started with the drop in and then sent it to them about a year latter. I like their sear and I like that the trigger stop is on the trigger instead of the trigger bar. Just personal and uneducated preferences I also recommend their striker retainer pins, reduced power mag-release spring and the heaviest guide rod you can use... I believe you can only use a steel one in Production but don't quote me on that. The grip tape is helpful but comes off easily, especially on the back strap so plan on having to replace it. I eventually had PRP do the texture on mine, They did the competition texture on the front and back strap and the carry texture everywhere else. I really like it for normal matches but it can get a little rough for multi-day training classes. I took 3 days of training with Manny Bragg last year and by the end of the weekend my hand was so tapped up people where teasing me for looking like Michael Jackson. I love the Pistol Gear slam pads. Especially for indoor matches on concrete but they also give you a little better leverage for mag changes. I put the large ones on two years ago and they still look great. I just added Canyon Creeks B1 over sized mag release but that isn't production legal. I originally had the PRP which was cool because it doesn't rotate but the smaller diameter was a little hard on my thumb during extended practices. Congrats, you got a great gun, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine.

    Nose Dive

Are you reloading Rainier's that short? If I go much shorter the edge of the case becomes more prevalent. I'm thinking the Rainier must be a different profile. Looking through my old reloading data, it looks like I had better luck when I was at 1.225 then I do now at 1.220. I went shorter because that seemed too long compared to standard loads and I wanted to use less powder if I could (I shot about 1000 at 1.220 before the issue came up and about 2500 at 1.225 with 1 malfunction). I've measured the chamber with this bullet profile at about 1.29 so I have plenty of room to go longer

    Nose Dive

I'm reloading Rainier Ballistics 200 Gr Flat Nose bullets to an OAL of 1.220 with a crimp of ,469 for an XDM. I've been experiencing some issues with the rounds nose diving into the bottom of the feed ramp and not feeding properly. The feed ramp is catching the very edge of the flat nose. If the nose was even slightly smaller it wouldn't be an issue. Replacing my magazine springs have helped significantly but I'm still experiencing the issue occasionally. Would changing my OAL help the round to be more reliable? Would I need to go longer or shorter?
  17. Because I had the same issue with multiple recoil springs and like I said, once I replace the mag springs the issue went away. Its a system that has to work together; if the new recoil spring is closing the slide before the old magazine springs can push up the next round your going to have a problem.
  18. I replaced the mag springs and they are running flawless. I'm shooting flat nose bullets, next time I'm going to try a different profile and see if I can get a little longer life out of the mag springs.
  19. I actually have several magazines with the stock base plates and the same extra power prigs and they still run flawless. What's still odd though is that my Canyon Creek mags aren't very old. They also still run flawlessly with the worn 16 lb recoil spring but wont work with a new 16 or 14 lb spring.
  20. I have the Canyon Creek magazines for my XDM 5.25 .45 and I've started having some feeding issues. Actually this started happening when I replaced my recoil spring. Canyon Creek sells the spring and follower together, can anyone tell me if just the spring is available somewhere? Looking online it looks the same as the STI 140 mm spring, will it work as well? Thanks for your help.
  21. Yes, that is one of the improvements of the XDM over the XD. I've shot at least a couple thousand without issue. Some where loaded long and some were loaded short, no problems with any of them.
  22. I may just be blessed to live by cool people but it seems like the better the shooter the nicer the shooter. The higher end shooters are usually very helpful and I always try to squad with them. To be honest though, I've often wondered if they were just tired of having to wait for slower shooters. That being said, I was squaded with significantly better open and limited shooters at a major match last year and I ended up tring to shoot the match at their pace. Of course I shot too fast for my ability and ended the match with 6 misses. If I would have spent a whole additional second per miss I would have been more competitive in my class and division (L10). I think the best advice to give anyone is shoot slow , do everything else fast and listen to others. It's very annoying to try and help someone out only to get excuses as to why they can't follow the suggestion.
  23. +1 on what JaeNe3345 said. I've actually found that my left hand isn't strong enough to grip as hard as my right hand (working on that) so I've had to lighten the grip of my right hand to have a balanced grip between the two. From what I've seen with my shooting, low and left is a trigger issue while high and left is a grip issue.
  24. Thanks, I was in the process of cleaning mine and getting it back together for the first time. The manual and Brian's instructions were extremely helpful.
  25. Benos, should that be 1.215 - 1.220 inches? I believe that is the "sprung" dimension. It would be nice to have the compressed dimension... sure wish I would have gotten that before putting it back together. That would make it a little easier to measure while holding everything together.
