  1. Thank you all, I really do appreciate the advice and welcome any more. will be some time before I can order.
  2. Hello all, been a while since I have posted, glad to be back. I am building an 8.5" 9mm PCC, down to the buffer and spring... I want to use this for steel and carbine type matches, range fun and training. Suppressed too and loads range from 115 to 147. There are a ton of buffer options and I think I have it narrowed down to the kynshot/blitz hydraulics. I have been reviewing here/web a lot and I just cannot decide on the 5007 and the 5015HD. The 5007 states that it was "...designed to in PCC builds with 3.5" - 16" barrels, either suppressed or unsuppressed and with all common 9mm loads." The 5015HD just says it is for PCC over 8". Thinking 5007 and a Wilson flat wire. Then to solve the tube isse. I have carbine tubes but thinking and A5?? Would appreciate input from experience folks! Rob
  3. DOH! I tried to figure out "the one to get" and finally ordered. I literally just picked up my Gen 2 complete MOE lower yesterday..... Big deal??? Anything I should know??

    Bad Brass...

Thanks to all. I have a can that I toss "bad/odd brass" into, will scrap someday (if I fill the 5gal bucket!). How do you all "mark" your brass? I'll add that I screen brass by putting it in a shallow plastic storage box then dredging a shell holder thing from a box of 45 ammo. When full I inspect one end then clam shell with a second holder and check the other end. Deprime/Clean. The do it again and put on a bench to load, checking then. That sounds tedious but it really is quick.

    Bad Brass...

Trying to upload that picture of his brass. It was damaged considerably more than what is shown above. i think it is there now (on phone). His has a tear that is about a third around the case, half way up on the opposite side. Extractor was blown out.
  6. So it finally happened to someone near me - a failure of sorts. During a match a buddy had what some (most) are calling an out of battery discharge, some (few) say double charge, and the gun manufacturer says it was a bad case... A new extractor and the manufacturer says it is good to go. From what I saw and heard it was certainly not a double charge or a squib that was fired on - but I am certainly not an expert. By the looks (I tried to upload a photo but it was too large despite downsizing, I am sure I am the problem) it appeared to be an out of battery discharge. But that is not really the point here. I am not telling/asking this to bash a manufacturer of any of the components that might matter nor my buddy's anal retentive reloading skills. Stuff can and will happen, to some more than others. I am trying to use this post to gain ideas about how I want to change my brass management process. Specifically, I want to tighten my already selective process of culling cases. What I would like to know is: How do you all cull range pick up brass? Do you bother? How do you decide what is no good? Do you only reload "your brass"? Buy new / "once fired" and leave it lay? Buy new / "once fired" and mark it to recover only "your brass"? How do you mark it? I would appreciate your input, thanks in advance!
  7. I have been using the Harbor Freight 5lb vibratory cleaner for years. Use the coupon and if they are on sale they become very cost effective. I am sure there are a few boos out there but if you look at all of the vibratory cleaners you can see that there are likely only a couple shops in the far east that make these things for all the brands. Sure, they just use different color plastic and maybe different cover over the motors - but they are one in the same. They all work until they don't and some work a long time. If and when this one dies, I will get another.
  8. I agree. I also agree with Hozzie, would not sell mine.
  9. ... but there are more than a 'few' with a handful of 'set once and forget' good experiences with the LnL AP, so I'd like to understand why/how/where your experience was different? Aye! I have owned and/or used more than a few presses over the years and if aliens steal the LNL AP, I would replace it with the same... Not a Dillon. OP - Get what makes you happy and please don't care what any of us think. Dillon makes good stuff but if you have gift certificates, the Hornady is a helluva machine. You are not "settling". Since you asked, just dropping the bullets into the bullet feed die is faster, the tubes (DIY or Hornady) more so - IMO. I have but would likely skip the case feeder, no matter the color of the press. I cant stand the noise and feeding a case is no biggie. The Inline mounts do come in different heights, so mind the spent primer tube length when you order (can't help - mine is on a bench). No idea if the Pacific and Hornady hole patterns match. The light strip kits are good but I bought the Hornady one before I knew of the Inline - for half the price, I would buy the Hornady again - there is also the DIY option, all the parts are cheap and on Amazon, elsewhere. This applies to any press: know how it works, understand how it works, keep it clean, check that what needs to be tight is tight, what needs to be loose is loose, and what needs to be lubed is lubed. Isn't it cute how the Dillon folks like to come into the "Non-Dillon Reloading Equipment" forum and spill their kool-aid...
  10. If you are referring to me, I can assure you that I was NOT trolling. I was truly interested and considering other presses. I even came close to buying the Dillon 650 as it was recommended by most people. In the end I went with what I knew and because I had some conversions and other equipment that was specific to the 550. I did buy an RCBS Partner press for depriming 223 brass and to size cast bullets, However, I am not able to get shell holders in the ram, so don't know what the problem is. I also kind of accidentally bought a Rock Chucker Supreme when I bid on one and actually won it, not expecting to win. It is to be delivered probably tomorrow. I hope shell holders fit it as I am getting ready to cast bullets and will need to size them. No sir. I was not referring to you. That is odd about the Partner press ram. I "hate it" when I accidently buy stuff! Glad to hear that the Rock Chucker helped you and that RCBS is fixing the Partner for you.
  11. I wanted to do something pretty much just like that with my press... I apologize but I can't help myself - is that a gas line leading to a gas water heater? With a pilot light?
  12. The shell holders on the Partner are the same (as I recall) as on the Rockchucker - you slide them in and out of the top of the ram, there is a clip spring to hold tension on it. The slot is on the "front" of the ram above the primer arm.
  13. Xtreme for me, get on the mailing list from their website.
  14. My LNL came with both powder rotors and a baffle. Ditto. Mine runs great with small (3.6, 4.1, 4.4 grains Titegroup/Universal) Most consistant powder measure I have ever used. Case feeder is still in a box awaiting new bench... will have to see how that goes!
  15. I am very happy with my Hornady LNL AP, I don't "want" for anything more than it can do. If it "disappeared", I would buy another one.
  16. The only time I have noticed variations in COAL like that I was using mixed brass.
  17. Thank you, I will carry on!
  18. Just getting started with the Hornady PTX's in 9mm and 40S&W. The 9mm version is not what the 40 is and this made me recall discussions of options, IE: the Powder Funnels PTX. Is the Powder Funnels version better than what Hornady is putting out today?
  19. Thanks! With the Hornady Rep on the phone I checked the mouth diameter the PTX was putting on them, several makes of bullets I tried and the cases over all. Hornady determined that the Collet "A" was "sprung" and they sent me a new Collet "A"! I am good to go! That said, I will look into the Mr. Bulletfeeder dies
  20. I have been enjoying my Hornady LNL and recently picked up the Hornady bullet feeder dies in 9mm and .40. I am feeding the die(s) by hand until I finish the reloading bench but that is a long story. I intend to tube feed then and add the case feeder. I have 600 rounds through the 9mm feed dies and while the PTX is rough, the feed die is great. I pulled the 9mm and set up for .40, the PTX was smooth and easy and at first, so was the bullet feeder... flawless to about 40 then I would get the occasional two bullets, then about 60 it was three, then it rained. I did the following: - degreased, cleaned, dried prior to use - read the instructions online and in videos by Hornady and others - tried fine tuning and changing expansion/bell - I am using mixed brass but the OAL possibilities seem to be not an issue - I checked to ensure proper assembly several times and even tried it "wrong" - I called Hornady, went through everything and they advise returning the die/collets with brass and bullets After reading this thread here www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=147890 I have two thoughts and would appreciate your opinions: 1 Just buy new collets, shipping and insurance will cost that much (almost) 2 "Tweak" the collet petals How did/would you pinch the collets?
  21. Curious as to why no love for Remington primers? I use a variety and prefer CCI in rifle and win/rem in pistol. Just picked up some Fed #100 as I can't seem to be able to catch others in stock locally. Judging by the votes, maybe I should go back and get more!
  22. Mine has cleaned/polished thousands of cases and does as good a job as any of them. Even took a dive from the bench and ran for who knows how long on the floor on its side... I think there are only a couple shops making these anyway - take a close look and they all look real similar be it red, green, blue... If you get the 20% off coupon on the HF website you may even get the proper "twang" to go with the accent! If'n yer lucky - and don't spit on the floor, get a cup, bottle, can or go outside.
