  1. Congrats , on getting to go. It is a great match. Is that a 13 hr + drive ?? Makes me feel luckey, I only have a 6+ hr drive. She deserves a cruise.
  2. To Trapr, Thank You for the excellent report. I attend about 6 Major matches a year. I will not be attending the 2009 RM3 gun, for many reasons. I have been at 3 of the last 4. The First Year,I was there it was 300 yard + shots, and I did all of those, not fast But I Did hit them. IT WAS FUN. Last year at 600 yards for the Bonus shots,I could hardly find them little lone hit them. IT WAS NOT FUN. The 500 yard shots were difficult,as the only range that I can practise on is 200 yards and everything beyond that is a best guess. The Point for me is, When the difficullty level increases to the point were I cannot hit the targets in Whatever time is required, I'll go do something else. Number 2 reason for not going is the $1000 + to go, my sponser, expects me to come home in a good mood, not the way it was last year. If the matches continue on the present course, I wish you the best, I will not be going . I will go back to pistol only, for as long as I can, but they too seem to be on this, lets make the course technically difficult ( NOT FUN) course.
  3. Fly to Houston, take a cruise, out of Galveston, catch DTR on the way home. The wife is happy, and you get to go. I'm doing the cruse out of Galveston the first week of March , I'll be good to go. Good Luck.
  4. Ken does great work, and they are fun matches, with a fun crew.
  5. To all who want to put the weak hand over the port as they are ejecting , please continue . I've had 3, 40 cal rounds go off as I was ROing. The first was at an indoor range, unload and show clear, BOOM, near the wall on the ejector side and as the shooter racked the slide, not that hard, the round went off, crap from the case and the wall came back at me and the shooter . scary to say the least , no real damage . Thank you for eye protection. The 2nd was again at Unload and show clear, angled 45 deg at the ground, a time to get new shorts only. Scary, but no damage . The 3rd was a very considerate shooter who would rather absorb all of the pain and suffering by putting his weak hand over the ejection port as the round exploded, and protectd this RO. I understand the surgery to remove the fragements caused a great deal of pain. Do it any way you want . But, I will not catch a round in the air or watch as the gun is cleared, I will verify that the gun is empty and safe. I see no advantage to unnecessarly putting anyone at risk, even if it looks Cool.
  6. I bought one for my Christmas present to me in Dec 2007,(Good price I thought, damn good price now), looking for a scope that would be a good compromise for up close and LONG shots. I think it is. Pros, Its damn nice to be able to see that plate at 300 yards + , and know that its a plate and not a dot, or blur, clarity is good, the horseshoe + dot requires some practise but I can double tap at 20yards, its about 0.5 sec slower for 3 targets at 20 yards for me, than a c-more mounted on a flat top, from port arms ,it seems to take me a little more time to find the dot, at first, the 1.5 magnification can screw with your mind, but once I get going it seems to be as quick, More practise would help, as with everything else about my shooting, the equipment is not the Major problem. Being a little slower up close is more than made up for me by being able to see the targets and hit them, at any distance, At mid range out to 100 yards or so it works as well as anything I've had, The variable adjustment is great, but it is a little stiff. I've not tested the distance hashmarks past 300 yards, yet, but they seem to work fine. With the rings it comes with , you can take it off and put it back on with out losing "0" . The elevation and windage adjustments work great, Repeatable. Cons The adjustment is a little stiff, a rat tail would help, the illumination is good at dusk but washs out in daylight, the dot is not as precise as a crosshair, but its not supposed to be, center dot is 1.5MOA at 100 at 8X, Center it on an 8in plate and watch it drop, its heavy at 1.75 lbs. Its set up for a 62 grain bullet,I shoot mostly 55's may make a difference at longer distances but I've not noticed yet.
  7. I hate to agree with Benny, But Velcro is IMO the best way . Flat out works. Esp Mark Otto's stuff. Get the side saddle, 9, and the armband, 9, you can never have to many shells. The three most important things about shooting well, are reliablity, reliabilty and reliabilty. The only way the velcro will screw up the gun , is if you stuff the whole carrier in the gun.
  8. Can anyone recommend a hotel, reasonable price range and on that side of town?? Any idea as to what scoring system will be used , as if it matters !!
  9. If you have picked up the gun, moved it 2 in off the table, muzzle still pointed at the table, and it goes bang he is DQed. I would think that its covered by 10.4.6, I did not think that movement had to be foot/ body movement. If he gets it off the table, pointed somewhere near a target, even getto style and it goes bang, he's good to go. . If the shooter was standing in a sweet spot between two groups of targets separated by a wall, hits the wall while swinging from one group of targets to the other and the gun goes bang, blows a hole in the wall, its the same penalty to me. AD during movement. 10.5 would cover it as a catch all rule
  10. DQ If shooting through a prop such as a table is not covered as being unsafe, 10.4.1 , after all if the target was not under the table he was not legitimately shooting at a target, then 10.4.6 picking a gun off the table ( during movement) and having it go bang while not actually shooting at a target gets him. The one time I saw this happen the pucker factor had us all. It was Scarry.
  11. As far as the shooters are concerned , the RO see's all. The 3 matches ,I've done this year, when you get to the 100th shooter being fair, consistant, enforcing the rules and being Honorable and having Integrity, does matter as an RO. The slow shooters get the same treatment as the fast shooters. As far as the RO goes , all shooters are the same, some are quicker,.... a perfect double is scored as a hit and a miss. Being safe is my primary concern , presenting the same description/ course of fire to every shooter is 2nd and scoring is 3rd . But you HAVE TO GO BY THE RULES. no matter who the shooter is or what he/she wants the score to be. You make your call as you see it and if the RM sees it different OK. When there are 4 targets through a port and the shooter fires 6 shots and has 6 A's on 3 targets they have earned 2 mikes and procedural, yep, I know they fired 6 shots at 4 targets they could have possibly engaged all 4 targets but they DID Not and have earned the penalties. Even watching only the gun you see things as an RO that are amazing. The shooter is blazing away at 3 targets and moves away after 4 shots , is moving on the 5th and is totally looking somewhere else as the last shot is fired, the 6th, its in a safe direction so its OK. There is a mike on one of the targets , the shooter wants an overlay and then wants the RM because they are sure that its a DOUBLE , He can not understand that he is the 10th or 20th shooter to do the same thing . I will put an overlay on it and call the RM if requested , but I try and be consistant, every potential mike gets an overlay even if I'm sure he did not fire enough rounds. It can be a tough job, you do the best you can, more experience helps, learn the rules, what you do can affect the outcome of the match. Be fair and honest with everyone. Even the A**holes.
  12. These matches can be open the regular civilians, B**LS**T, (only as second class citizens), the NRA does not allow civilians to shoot humaniod targets, hence the tombstones at Bianchi. So a civilian will never be allowed to shoot in the same match as LE. After all the NRA is a Politically Correct shooting org. Civilians can run the match, indeed the matches probably will not happen, if civilians don't do most of the work. Heaven forbid that at a match aimed at LE, a civilian, could and would place well, as far as LE,I have seen bad ones and I've seen some really good ones, JUST LIKE civilians. If they, meaning any LE and NRA rep's, want to come shoot any other match USPSA or IDPA I'm sure they will be welcomed to participate and expected to help. To run a series of matches and ask a group of people to supply the manpower to run them, but be told that you are not good enough to participate is just wrong. If some how you let us regular folk, shoot the match, the same match, for the same awards, scored together, ( Give LE thier own awards,) I'll help in any way I can , set up, ROing, tear down. If not, good luck. I heard that the NRA LE matches were being talked about, last year, and we were informed then that civilians would not be allowed, so some friends and I have been talking about it for a year , to bad the NRA is not willing to allow civilans to shoot thier matches, but they do want our money and help. Sorry for the rant, to have a national org , that I support, exclude me, is irritating.
  13. Ken, the only one to beat you on Stage 7 was Jerry M. Good match.
  14. Went to the range today, always fun. But , the technique with the lens cap did not work worth a damn. Every thing was going to the left When I took off the lens cap everything was fine. Nice cloudy day , could see the red dot real well. Still like it a lot.
  15. It comes with V-Tac rings, Low medium or high. With a good steel mag( mono pod) and good ammo, I got 1" in groups at 100 yards.8X , 2" at 4X and 4" at 1.5 . Up close I'm trying it with the rubber lens cap on and the Light On. both eyes open, looks a lot like the meoptia, A dot with vertical and horizontal lines. I've had mixed results, some times it works real well, Wish the light was brighter. I hope its a cloudy day.
  16. I've had the scope about a month , I really like it , from Cactis Tactical. Its a little slower up close than a C-more but not much, but when you can dial it in, its as good at 300 as a 3X9 LE. (as far out as I can go). I've been told its set up for a 62 gr but have only used 55gr and its worked fine. the dot changes with distance. smaller as you go out. The cb shooters match will be the real test for me.
  17. Took the problem top end to a local , ( Close Gunsmith ) opened the comp, to 0.390, some copper on the comp, and recrowned the barrel. A friend donated bullets, and The MG 124 JHP at 167 PF , gave 2.5 in group at 25 yds, I can live with that . Thrilled that it worked. The Zero 125 Jhp were almost as good, but, got an ocassional flyer, could be the shooter The PD 124 were wild , complete with keyholes at 10yds. 2 or 3 shoots would be good and another flyer, most flyers were keyholes, again at 165 + PF at 145 PF, very small groups, 1.5 at 10 yds, and 2.5 at 25 or close to that. The Straight top end ran all combinations , with small groups. So at this point I'm shooting the straight top end , and keeping the ported barrel as spare parts. I know it will work , but at the price of reloading now, I'm finished experimenting. As I get some .356 and try them I will report back. Thanks
  18. Current bullet is .355 Delta Precision, 9 mm , 124 FMJ. Have super cleaned the barrel and comp down to metal, will try again this weekend , and then run some MG 124 JHP, 3rd bullet was JHP zero 124's I'm out of those . I'll see if I can get some .356 . Thanks
  19. I bought a used super, with 2 top ends, # 1, Briley Barrel, 4 port comp, works just fine with all loads, prefers 160 pf but is still good at 167 , # 2 Schulman barrel 4 port comp is accurate with 145 PF, and gets worse the higher the PF, at 145 pf, 1.5" at 15 yards, 2.5 at 25yards, "A" hits at 50. Thats as well as I've ever done with any gun , Shooter limitations are assumed to be the same for all guns. Please. At 167 PF, 3-4 " at 15 yards, 6+ at 25 and maybe hit the target at 50. I've tried 3 different bullets, 3 powders , and 2 kinds of brass. Question is What do I do??? New comp? Recrown?? Shoot minor?? Sell #2 top end?? #2 top end is very soft shooting, fun to shoot, and very reliable. Thanks for any help
  20. On the STI/SV plastic lower check the area on the inside of the grip in front of the steel insert right at the point where the trigger guard attaches to the rest of the grip piece , directly above where the mag catch goes . Stress the trigger guard by holding the grip and pulling down on the trigger guard , if you can flex it and especially if you can feel it flex, you will probably be able to see the crack, the grip is toast and needs to be replaced. If it gets real bad the grip safety will clear the main sprig housing and come out . Maybe not your problem but it happens it really gives a variable trigger pull and a weird feel as the grip safety actually clears the main spring housing and catches as the grip flexes forward, as you squeze the trigger harder your grip pressure goes up and the grip safety goes back in place and the gun fires . When you get finished it all looks normal and still screws up the next time you shoot . Good luck these kind of problems that come and go are a bitch to cure.
  21. I'll go,----- just because, I'm now assured that wakal won't be there. Its always been a good fun match to shoot. I don't always like the challenge , like jumping the DAMN GATE. or opening the window with a key, but its close, its fun, and a chance to get a slot to the nationals.
  22. In an attempt to clarify some of the points brought up , I was there, standing beside the well intentioned but uninformed screamer. When he cut loose with STOP STOP STOP , everybody , stopped everything . We thought someone was going to shoot someone, or a similar disaster . I mean everybody stopped moving , the shooter ,the RO the spectators. We really thought that there was a PROBLEM !!!!! When he explained what he thought the problem was, I was all for giving him a procedural on the spot... [edit] The original ,written , course description ,had you starting with the gun on a barrel. However the first squad to shoot, did not read that , and started Hands at sides in a shooting box. The match director saw this at the end of this squads time on this course . And in the interest of moving the match along, simply changed the start position to Hands at sides in the box. He informed all the squads of this change, to be explained at that squads course description. We, the third squad to shoot this course had just walked up and were watching the 2nd squad to shoot this course. The screamer was "WRONG" , no excuse even if it was the wrong start position. There was not a safety problem..He should have received a penalty. If it was a safety problem he was "RIGHT" . We did not know . It was the right thing to do at the time Everyone stopped!!!! Sharyn gets a reshoot. right away or later in the order. Her choice . If we thought that this was anything but a well intentioned mistake . A match DQ for unsportsman like conduct and Sharyn's GLARE, would be the start of his problems. At a Major match, this event could, and maybe should be a Match DQ. 23. As of saturday there was still room. go to texassouthsection.com to get the entry form. and contact info
  24. I like the dates as they are. Shoot Thurs/Fri/ Sat. It is easier for me to take Vacation all in one week and leaves Sun. for travel home As to having the pistol on all the time, I don't like it , but I will follow whatever rules they come up with. But, If I have it , esp loaded, let me use it whenever I want to, like any target, paper, steel or clay. and provide the penalty/safety rules for when and how to dump the other weapon. I would try to shoot the steel on a shotgun stage with my pistol., even strong hand it would be quicker for me, than to load a slug or 2 and then remount and shoot. If its unloaded , why bother.
  25. WHO WON ???? Jaje says Lee won ! Lee says Jake won! Who's on first?????
