  1. I have a model 25 with the 6.5" barrel, that I primarily intend to use the holster for, but I would also like to be able to use my 6" model 686 in it some if it will work. Can anyone tell me from experience if it is possible to use a 6" and a longer than 6" in the same CR Speed, they sell two models, an up to 6" and an over 6". Which one would work better for both? Or should I just buy the 6"+ because I plan to use my 25 in it mostly? Thanks
  2. That is a good trick, but I'd like also like to figure out why the gas leak is worse than other rifles. I will check the key/ gas tube interface.
  3. I noticed it with two different ammo's, XM193's and Wolf which is obviously worse. Maybe I should try a different bolt and charging handle.
  4. I have a few 8-shot revolvers, one is 38 super that I shoot in Open division USPSA at major PF (8.3 gr VV 3N37, 125 gr .356" JHP). The gun will shoot 1.5" 16-shot groups from a Ransom Rest at 50 yds. With the right moonclips/brass combination, it will reload and eject fast. Shot this at the IRC one year and did OK. The .357 mag is such a long cartridge, reloading and ejection can be a problem. It will make major and accuracy will be good. It's just such a long cartridge! You may want to try 38 Special +P+. You should be able to make major with it, but the cases may not last as long as 38 super ones. But they're easy to come by. I've never had much luck getting 50 yd accuracy with FMJ bullets, the JHP work much better. The JHP 38 super bullet has more of a nose to it than a 357 JHP bullet which helps on reloads. Although 357 JHP bullets are very accurate. Lead bullets at major PF will probably cause barrel leading which will affect accuracy. Good luck in your quest. I've always had better luck with hollow points over FMJ's for accuracy in every caliber revolver or automatic I've ever owned. I think the JHP's must just fly better.
  5. I just put together an AR and test fired it at the range today. It had alot more gas blast back in my face than any other AR I have ever shot. Any ideas why?
  6. I dont want to compete against only 4 people, so how many are planning to shoot a revolver at area 7? I think Craig Buckland is going to (please confirm), how about Parker and Sardina? Who else? It was great the year Mike Carmoney and his boy Sam came up. I dont think we've had as many as 4 masters in revolver any other year.
  7. I'd like to know why an empty case got left behind from a revolver? Did the perp do a reload?
  8. I went to an auction preview yesterday, thay had at least 50 J frames and even more Colt Detectives. Luckily I took my family skiing today and didnt go to the auction or I know I would have spent to much. They had a Flatlatch Nickle bodyguard in mint condition with the original box that I really, really wanted! God only knows how high I might have gone for it! I will cry if my buddy tells me it went fairly cheap. If I know him he will probably ask me if I want to see his new gun and it will be that bodyguard! I agree on the Scandium frame, to me its the perfect carry gun, magnum power in a package you dont mind carrying. I would probably do the same as G Man, when you had to use it, and the chemical cocktail started flowing you would never notice the recoil, hell your ears wouldnt even ring from the shots.
  9. Great, I knew it was a disease and you guys just confirmed it. I just found a model 12-2 that wont let me be. I know its not a J frame, so maybe my issues are worse than I originally thought, I think they extend to all snubbies. At least noone can say I am trying to compensate for anything!
  10. Well send them to the man for crying out loud!
  11. Happy Birthday Mike, great Idea! I turn .45 this year!
  12. I think I saw that S&W is offering some J frame guns without the locks. Has anyone else seen that?
  13. 681's? I havent seen many of them for awhile, how cheap is he selling them? Can you PM me some info on the shop?
  14. If I ever see good deal on a 45 ACP snubbie I will have to have it. I really think being able to see the hollow point as you look down the barrel should deter all but the most suicidal criminals. There really is no question that the gun is loaded.
  15. I sold a S&W Chiefs special mdl 36 a few years ago and always regretted it, so when I got the chance to buy a nice pinned barrel 36 at the gun show last month I figured I owed it to myself. Then a few weeks ago I found a model 640 in .357 magnum for sale and since i always wanted one of them I figured I should buy it also. Yesterday I just added a pre-lock model 642 Airweight 38 special to the fold of J frames because I plan to put a Crimson Trace on it and use it for a carry gun. I really like these little guns and I've always wanted a humpback bodyguard so it looks like I will end up with at least 4 J frames before I am done. Anyone else suffering from the same problem?
  16. If you can remember what load you used I would like to try it. Sorry for the delay. The load I used I got from someone else here on the forums by the way. It worked good, I used it in my revolver one whole season. I called it the 38 magnum. It was hard on brass, I used once fired nickle because it extracts easier, I did not re-use the cases. 6.8 grains Unique, 158 grain Berrys copper plated round nose, Fed 200 magnum primer, OAL 1.540" made major PH of about 170 in my 6" SW 686, cases extracted easily, some deformation of cases in unsupported areas near moonclip/ extractor, kind of like a Glock bulge if you will. Thats why I didnt reuse them. Powder burned clean leaving no unburned grains to gum up the action. Disclaimer: I am not reccomending anyone alse try this load, I am only describing my personal experiences.
  17. I have always found that the key reason a strain screw doesnt come loose is because you tighten it up against the head. I have seen people try to back them off a little and they never stay. My revolvers all have a set screw mod that locks down against the strain screw. I love this set up and it has served me well for over 20 years.
  18. Ahhh...a Harley rider, huh? Now thats a kick in the nuts!
  19. I had a 6" 686 cut for moonclips by Clark. I shot "38 major" out of it using Berrys plated 158 round nose bullets and 38 special cases. I cant remember the load off the top of my head and I'm at work right now but I shot that for a whole season and it worked well. When it comes to the shooting I prefer the 686 frame, but for the reloading you cant beat the 25's.
  20. I was wondering if anyone had any personal knowledge of whether or not a Mini 30 Rifle would fit into a Mini 14 Stock. I have a factory folder I was thinking I might like to put a Mini 30 into. Thanks
  21. Was he the boastful champion they are looking for?
