  1. I just added the Dawson ICE and I am a big fan.
  2. The problem is the SERPA is an unnecessary risk, and is completely avoidable. There are millions of holsters out there which do not require your trigger finger to move towards the trigger during the draw that also provide strong (and/or active) retention. Every single ND from a SERPA holster could have been prevented by a different holster. I feel that the serpa isn't to blame. I can't blame a holster for a trigger being pulled. The release is not inline with the trigger. The retention device locks onto the trigger guard, and the release is above that more inline with the frame toward the slide. I know my opinion isn't popular. It is just that, an opinion. Though it is backed by years with the serpa. Thousands of reps drawing from the holster, thousands of rounds in practice, training, and high stress situations. Agree to disagree.
  3. I've been using the blade-tech DOH for a few months, and have zero complaints. It seems like the serpa isn't welcomed too warmly in the competition world (that's just from reading forum opinions) But I can't say anything bad about them. I've carried one for years, and trust it in any situation from combat to competition. Though it may slow your draw times by fractions of a second. Yes there have been cases when a round has been negligently discharged, but in MY OPINION it is 100% shooter error.
  4. It's 100% stock. I think I'll have the smith set the new FCG with a bit more travel when I have it replaced. Thanks! -Ben
  5. It was in the low 30s this weekend and I had a chance to try my new Columbia jacket. It is thin and light, 100% waterproof and has a titanium liner woven into it. The liner radiates heat back towards your body like a emergency blanket. I'd call it the perfect jacket for colder temps. With under layers, I'd use it into the teens.
  6. One fat guy watching me masturbate is enough, thanks. No. This was a mental picture I did notneed, partiucularly after looking at your avatar. +1
  7. Thanks for the input Rob. My money is on software. To make sure, it's off to the smith this week.
  8. I can't say I'm 100% sure. I know it's more likely to happen when switching from a precision rifle to the 1911. I'm assuming it's the slow trigger pull, and the slide moving the gun back into the trigger finger. How do I test the hammer/firing pin?
  9. I'd say send it back. If you miss a shot and start doubting your equipment it will be hard to focus on the task at hand, you'll be trying to figure if it was you or the weapon.
  10. Agreed! The same as gathering data, no cards or programs will tell you where YOUR round will hit. My theory on any new information is, go prove or disprove it on the range.
  11. While shooting today, my pistol doubled. It has happened once before, I'm not sure how to fix this, it's not a "malfunction" it is the slide coming forward and making a FAST split or bump fire. Any input would be great, thanks in advance. Ben
  12. Today I witnessed a 1911 slide stay to the rear for close to a second after every round was fired. It was the last stage, it wasn't a deal breaker for the guy. He ran the course only 1 jam. I couldn't believe it ran 31 out of 32 rounds. (the jam was on a slide lock reload)
  13. I'm starting to like a pistol over a rifle. After years of shooting m4-16 and M24 in the military. I started shooting pistol and WOW I'm 100% starting over.
  14. After shooting my first match today, I gotta say this was a helpful guide on what to expect. Thanks for the info.
  15. Great time at old fort gun club, it was a learning experience to say the least.
  16. Can't wait! Especially if the weather is anything like today. 50* in December is crazy
  17. I was there, though I didn't shoot. After watching a buddy shoot, I knew I was hooked!
  18. Thanks! I'll check them out. Id like about 50-75% thicker grips than stock
  19. In the Fort Smith area. Are you from AR also?
  20. Ive been browsing the forum for quite some time and decided to join up. I have no civilian competition experience as of today, that should change on the 18th with my first ipsc match. I've been shooting military comps for the past 4 years (not as often as I'd like) and I decided to take the plunge into the civilian world. Look forward to learning from the members. Ben
  21. While training for carbine/multi gun competition, what shooting positions do you focus on? And what percentage of time for each? It seems "alts" are greatly overlooked, curious if that is the case.
  22. How much thicker are the grips than OEM/stock grips?
