  1. Thanks for the help so far guys. I found out one problem with the short mags. They have the same spring crammed into them that the 170's are using. It is a giant spring for such a small mag. I'm ordering some of the Brownings as recommended by Bamboo but also I put in one from a CZ that seems like it fits really well. Bamboo, does your friend want to make an extra safety?
  2. I posted previously about the Caspian open gun I bought from the classifieds here. I have had it converted to 9mm but have just a few problems and questions. It is running well with the big stick mags that I have. The short mags are giving me occassional problems. I think the springs are way overdue for a replacement. I see some people have switched to Grams followers and springs. Do you just use the ones for STI? I don't see any listed for the Caspian. I have the old style 38 super/9mm mags. Next question is a thumb shield or safety. I have caused a few jams from riding the slide with my thumb. My gunsmith told me standard Swenson safeties will not fit. Does anyone know of a solution for this for the caspian? Can't seem to find one online. Last question is on recoil springs. I am currently running an 8 lb spring. Even with major loads the cases almost dribble out. As long as it is working should I stick with that or try a 7 lb for more solid ejection? Thanks for any help guys.
  3. Thanks again Steve for this advice Steve. Followed it on most of my stages yesterday and shot my first 100% classifier. Lost focus on one stage and blew the match but good other than that.
  4. Is this when you are shooting and there are a few rounds left? If so, the problem I had was only with the CZ mags weak springs. It would allow the next round to push forward and catch when dropping it. I solved it by switching to +10% wolfe springs. I've always heard the mecgars were good to go on spring strength though. Also, take off your grips and see if your mag brake may be touching. I've seen them installed where even the flat break bends out just enough to catch occasionally. I don't have any of the newer Mecgar mags with the AFC coating so I can't speak for those but I know many people use them with no problems.
  5. My old pin moved pretty easy so I just used the CGW pin and drove it out with some light taps. Didn't even take off the slide. I'm sure there is some reason not to do it that way but it worked.
  6. I was going to say the same thing. I've dry fired for a year straight just to make it to A. Hate to see what happens when you get serious.

    New springs

I ordered the same kit on Friday because of your post. I'm glad I live in Louisiana as I got them yesterday and installed today. This trigger is now amazing. It lit the 5 winchester primers I tried. Had a nice hit on the primer as well. That was all the shooting I can get away with at the house so I'll have to wait until Wednesday to put a few hundred through it. After feeling it though I'm willing to switch to Federals to keep the trigger. Wish I had a trigger pull gauge but all I know is it is sweet. Thanks again for the post.
  8. Thanks for the response on my issue as well. Not to drift the thread but I do dry fire 5x a week and live fire once per week. I wish I could do more live fire but it is not in the cards right now. I have become better at shot calling and rarely have misses at matches but shoot too many D's and C's. I shoot production so I have realized points win matches. The last major match I shot against a GM (Matt Mink) he shot 97% of the points available and I shot 87%. While I had a great match and won A class and beat a GM and several M's I do see where the gap is. My times were not far off but the points just weren't there. I've just found when I try to slow down to get points I shoot just as sloppy but think too much and have other screw ups. I have a class with Ben Stoeger in April maybe he can help me understand where my disconnect is.
  9. If you don't get a response send me a PM and I can go look at my book and compare the dates when I was C class. Either way stick with the book and drills. It and Mike Seeklander's book I give credit for getting me to A from C in about 9 months. I'm trying to push my way to M now and finding myself going back to fundamentals from the drills. Trying to get my accuracy where it needs to be and not having much success lately.
  10. Care to share where you got it and how many $$$?
  11. I have the $1200 Shadow. I would buy the $880 version and send it to Stuart (eerw) if I had to do it over again. I felt one that he did and it was far superior to my trigger. From what I understand he could have gone lighter but it would require Federal primers only. If I wasn't trying to shoot open I would buy another one to send to him and just shoot federal primers and really feel like I was cheating.
  12. Wasn't trying to start an argument. Just pointing out a reason to be patient. If this is your first Cz you are in for a treat.
  13. I'm sure you are super excited but remember the drivers want a day off with their family just like the rest of us. I'm glad some companies step up and close during the holidays. I work for a great one and I refuse to shop on holidays because it just encourages companies to stay open. Just be patient and remember those drivers and warehouse guys are watching their kids play with Christmas toys.
  14. You should sell your modified followers. I played with my follower a lot and can only get 21. I guess I need to try other springs.
  15. I bought some of the Pearce Beretta +2 pads and they fit just fine. I played with the follower a little and I'm at 20 rds. Not quite what others were able to get to but I would like to try a grams follower and spring if I could find out what to order from his website.
  16. I have a Shadow from Angus. It is nice but a guy local had one of Stuart's (eerw) and it was far superior on the trigger. If I was starting over I would get him to do it.

    Shadow parts

I don't have a list for you exactly but I will give you a general idea. Since most of the parts are cheap I ordered a lot of stuff the first time. I have one of every spring in the gun except the trigger return spring I had five and I'm down to one spare. Mine break every three months or so. All the small pins are good spares to have. They are small and can be lost easily. An extra slide stop, firing pin, and extractor. That is what I have and at this point at 14 months on this particular gun with 12,000 rounds through it I have only replaced the trigger return spring (4 times), extractor spring, and recoil spring.
  18. You are missing .2 inches by my calculations.
  19. To throw a wrench in your questions why not a CZ in 9mm? Either the shadow or a TS would do you right depending on what size you wanted. I like the M&P's but the CZ would give you a sweet single action trigger. The new trigger that APEX is making is amazing as well though which you could use in 3 gun. If it was production legal it would give me some thoughts.
  20. I've had my Shadow for a little over a year. I dry fire 5 to 6 times a week from 15 to 30 minutes for most of this year. I don't use a snap cap. The only thing I've broken is the TRS.

    SPOI & shadow

    steel in both models
  22. Shay at Akai installs them on some of his custom guns. Not sure if he will do one on a gun that is not his but it would be worth the email. Also, he did say it is quite a bit of work to install but after feeling one I think it is my favorite grip other than my CZ Shadow.
  23. Jim, are the old style shown on Caspian's website? I only see one type offered. Mine look like this. The mags look old but they all worked. The big ones only held 25 in 38 super. How much do you charge for the 170's that you make?
  24. I definitely have the older style magazines with my gun. I finally got to shoot the gun tonight and it ran flawlessly in 38 super comp and 38 super. I left it with my gunsmith though to have a 9mm barrel and comp fitted. Both of the big sticks I got with the gun ran well also. Hopefully it will work just as well in 9mm.
