  1. Thanks for the responses. I'll definitely check with my smith to see what it would cost. Caspian Guy I'm glad to know it worked well for you in both cases.
  2. I bought an older Caspian 38 super gun this week. I do not own any 38 super dies or brass etc. Has anyone had any luck converting them to 9mm and getting it to run? I was thinking an STI trubore could possibly be fitted to it. The mags are listed as 38 super/ 9mm but I've know how 9mm open guns can be. It was just a thought before I invested money in all of the dies and other stuff to reload for it while I already have all the 9mm stuff for my 650.

    Milled slides

I e-mailed them a few days ago. No answer yet. They were at the Gator Classic this past weekend so maybe he is behind in emails?
  4. My finish didn't last long so I'm not surprised to hear they quit making it. I kind of like the worn look though. I figure it shows that it is played with everyday.

    Milled slides

Freedom gun works did some holes in someone's TS that they posted here. It was just holes on the top but I thought it looked good.
  6. I had to go to 4.0 grains with the solo 1k and 135 bayou bullets to get the same velocity. It is a great load though.
  7. My Henning slide pin came in today and after putting it in the gun my slide is locking back on it and I have to force it forward. You can feel it catching somewhere. This is on an older small frame gun. Should I need to fit it somehow? I'll call Henning tomorrow but thought some of you may know. Thanks
  8. Don't sweat it. A lot of people start as C's or D's. The first one is harder because it counts your really low scores as well. The trick to making B is just getting your points. I know the thing that has been told to me many times was don't sweat the classification and just shoot your match.
  9. Tangiltows, There are plenty of local guys that shoot 9mm open that you could talk to. And we have a local source for once fired 9mm for $20/1000. PM for details if you don't know him. Also, I'm sure we've met before if you shoot the local matches I just don't know your screen name. Years ago I shot 38 supercomp and the stress of losing brass was no good for me. I realize the math is there to support 38 super but I guess I'm not all that rational all the time.

    I am the King...

Look at the bright side. Since I break TRS springs all the time I'm now an expert at tearing the gun all the way down. Luckily we have eerw and Stuart here to help me fix all my problems. My springs have all broken during dry fire though.
  11. I asked the question to Cz and they said no. Im not convinced because they look identical. I need to get my hands on one to find out for sure.
  12. Justaute, I would love if EFK had them in stock. It would ease my conversion quite a bit. I spoke with Bobby Carver about just mounting one of his comps on an extended barrel and he said it would work fine. I just need the extended barrel is the only problem. shooterbenedetto, I'm not too worried about the resale value. If the worst came and I needed to sell it I could sell all the components pretty easily and the only hit I would worry about would be the barrel and comp. I did email Jimmy Vidanes and haven't heard back from him. I have a few other guys that I think are going to give it a try for me though. I'm waiting to finalize some details and hopefully I can get it started..
  13. Phil, I did think about this but I can't find an extended barrel for the sp01. Firedragon basically said no time soon and I haven't seen any other source for an extended SP01 barrel. If you know of one let me know. BTW you are one of the reasons I want to do this since yours looked good. Too bad you sold it.
  14. Waiting to hear back from a few gunsmiths. Hope to get this complete this year. I think it will be a fun break from production and the endless mag changes.
  15. That set up looks sweet but I'm sure they wouldn't suggest major pf with just the ports. I'm sure being this is his steel challenge gun it isn't set up for it either. It is sweet though and would make switching back and forth much easier for me. Too many decisions and never enough cash.
  16. I've heard this as well. I would love to know why the CZ can't handle it while the Glock, m&p and the tanfoglio guns seem to do it just fine. I'm not arguing it but it is a stout gun and other than slide stops other replaceable parts what is it that can't handle it? I've seen plenty of STI's crack slides and other parts in open guns so it isn't like they never wear out either. I may be making a mistake going after this but we'll see how it goes.
  17. Planning on it if it runs. I've talked to some others that have 10k plus through it with major and it has held up for them. I figure if the frame gives somehow it would cost too much to buy another CZ and sell the extra upper. Now if the comp work goes that would cost me more I'm sure.
  18. Czechmate is what czcustom said. It is a thought but I think I can end up quite a bit cheaper and have the frame I prefer and mags and parts I already have. If I can't get a reasonable quote it may be my only option. I emailed Jimmy Vindanes a while back after seeing bigdoghowie's gun but haven't heard back.
  19. Well I've looked at quite a few peoples CZ open guns and I've decided I have to have one and I'm looking for advise. I realize I may spend almost as much as a used STI and that is okay with me if I get what I want. I love the feel of the CZ's and don't want to change to an STI if I don't have to. I've done about all the research I can on the forums and PM'd with almost everyone that has built an open CZ. Most of the gunsmiths that I have talked to have been unwilling to try it but I'm sure I'll find someone that will give it a shot. So my first question is which gun to start with. I shoot a Shadow Custom in production and like it. I planned to do another SP01 but I'm thinking with an eventual comp the 75B SA would be a good place to start since it is a little lighter. Any opinion on which would be easier for a smith to add a comp too? I've decided on doing a sideways Quinn mount with a Cmore unless someone has a better suggestion. I'm not a big fan of the slide mounted red dots. I feel I loose the dot much quicker during recoil and it takes a split second longer to pick it. Maybe I'm wrong as I've only put a few rounds down range with one. Anyone have another smith for me to try to ask about a comp? I realize it will not be easily removable and I will have to take it off to get the barrel out and I can live with that. I've seen others do it and it is not ideal but seems to work. Well that it for now. I have an initial plan of putting the cmore on it and shooting as is for a while until I find a suitable comp/barrel combo. Sorry for the rambling post and let me know what you think and any ideas you may have.
  20. That is about the time I get on a target in a match. I can get right a 1.0 in practice but that doesn't mean anything. I'm sure the GM's are at a second come match time but I really feel the 1.2 is good if you are consistently getting an A on your first hit and getting a good grip.

    TS barrel in SP01

Will a TS barrel fit in an SP01? When I called CZusa they weren't sure but he said probably not. Not sure if I talked with someone who really knew what he was talking about as he didn't sound confident of his answer.

    CZ 75 TS for limited

I've been thinking about buying one for a while. I finally got to put my hands on one last week. As a shadow sp01 shooter I loved the weight and balance. With the thin grips on there I liked the grip. I wouldn't mind having it reduced a bit further like some people have done. Also, I watched the guy shoot it and it ran great. If we weren't at a match I would have liked to get a few rounds through it but I plan to buy one as soon as I have the money.

    Hammer slipped DQ.

That sucks. Hopefully it wasn't a big match for you. Blue Dog is good but there are plenty better. We aren't a healthy bunch but we are well fed down here.
  24. You don't need a threaded barrel for it. They make an insert that fits on the front. You remove that piece of metal at the front that looks like the barrel (but is not) and put the threaded one on. I think I paid $45 for it years ago. I think Tromix made mine but I'm sure someone else does as well. Good choice for a suppressed pistol as well.
