Got my DGbullets today. Great service again.

Precision were good. I had one gun that only shot those coated bullets well, everything else would lead the barrel heavily. I always guessed it was due to the concave base. After I sold that gun I went with other makers for price reasons. I've done two orders with DGbullets and got my bullets fast both times. Just put in another order with them today. Also, Backwater Shooters / Swamp Popper bullets now appears to be closed as well. Their website is offline.

I've largely switched to Nitro 100NF for my applications though as it's proven better over the chrono.

I would pick coated for any barrel that will run them. Same velocity for a lower powder charge.

I burned through an 8 lbs jug of it. When I was making minor with a full 5" barrel, the pressures were low enough to leave a fair amount of unburned powder in the gun. Using a load specifically for a 3.5" barrel and it was fine. I ended up using it for non-PF ammo for my service and carry pistol. Good powder, but not what I needed for USPSA/IDPA.

Generally speaking, the bigger the match, the larger percentage of shooters get DQed. And, the more stage props there are, the more completely forgotten about targets. If you treat the walkthroughs like it's a 3-gun match, you should be fine. Know where the targets are, know where the 180 is, know where your reloads are. Another thing to look for is if the MD posts the stages online prior to the match. If he does, look them through and see if you are going to find yourself in a new shooting situation.

When I started shooting back in 2010, I started in SS. I think the division was still provisional at the time, but don't quote me on that. That was before Practiscore, so I could only directly compare myself to other SS shooters on the USPSA website. Back then there was a real concern about fragmenting the sport through too many divisions. In fact, part of the reason I started shooting IDPA was because the local club always provided overall scores (the other reason was they posted their scores the next day, as compared to a month later or occasionally never). Now I'm the club president, so I guess that switch turned out alright. I myself stopped shooting SS after going to my first sectional, where out of the 100 or so shooters, 8 people were competing in SS. I switched to Limited, but... I stayed in the sport. And that right there is about 10 times as important as what division I compete in. Now that people have excel like powers over the score sheet, have as many divisions as you like. There are enough trophy hunters to ensure that someone will still be competing in everything at the big matches. Really though, if SS goes anywhere, it will be back into Lim10.

Nordic makes an extension tube for 20 gauge (and compatible nut), up to +7, and two tubes can be coupled together for greater capacities (Edit: They may only make this accessory in 12 gauge). Many replacement parts can be found here, and 20 gauge can be specified when searching for parts. https://www.midwestgunworks.com/ Invicitus Practical makes 20 gauge quad-load carriers, and most of the dual load carriers that use a metal clip are 20 gauge compatible. Many speed strip shell caddies can be modified to retain 20 gauge by adding a strip of velcro to the back, reducing the diameter.

2018 was a great match, I will for sure be back for 2019. I am glad you are having an event staff next time around. Giving a guy a timer and expecting him to RO and shoot a 2-day, 12 stage match is too much. Thankfully we had some guys in our squad who were used to ROing and could help out.

For actual loads, IMR 4064. Just to burn through powder, Hybrid 100V. Fill the case, put a bullet on top. No idea on the velocity, burned dirty and abraded my muzzle brake. I stopped after a pound or so for the listed reasons. Good enough for plinking though.

Alright just a bit of follow up here. First off thanks everyone for the helpful tips. I'm going to get my barrel threaded as it seems like the best long term option. Thanks all.

Thanks for the quick replies. They only said no buckshot or slugs. Thats on the to do list this week. I've had the gun for 10+ years and I did it once when I first got it . I'll give that a try at the next match. Also there is no gunsmith where I live that I'd let work on my gun, what is a good place to send a barrel off to? About what is the going rate for prices of threading? I did a google search but prices seemed to be all over the place.

I am starting to get into 3 gun but am trying to get the $$$ spent low. I've got a 1300 Defender with a wide open barrel and at my first match wasn't able to knock the steel off a texas star at about 10 meters. I wasn't the only one of the new guys to give up after spending all their shells trying to knock them off either. I was shooting the wally world Federal 7 1/2 100 pack. Within the context of I'm not replacing my shotgun, what is going to be the most cost effective way to knock steel over better? One person suggested 2 3/4 turkey loads, another suggested getting my barrel threaded for chokes. With 3 gun I'm there more to shoot and get better than to win it all but it is annoying to shoot the same target multiple times and have to take a miss. What do you guys think?
