  1. Well I got the new rifle out to the range today and must say it went like a dream. It was 30 degrees out with sunshine today which is really nice for here in late January. Started out by mounting a Vortex 6.5-20x50 off one of my bench guns for accuracy testing. After running a few break in rounds and getting it zeroed I immediately shot a 5 shot group that I don't know if the 6BR I stole the scope off can best. I didn't shoot another group to back it up, because.....well I'll be honest I didn't want to push my luck. This was just with my 50gr V-max varmint loads. All tests shot from a rest, off a concrete bench at 100 yards. Then I went home cleaned the bore and mounted the new Burris MTAC on it and headed back out to the range. I took me a little longer than usual to get the scope zero'd since I couldn't see my hits @4x and I forgot my bino's at home. Once I was on paper I had just enough light and ammo left to shoot (2) five shot groups. The Burris MTAC obviously gives up quite a bit to the Vortex Viper 6.5-20 when it comes to shooting tiny groups, but I was suprised at how easy this scope is to hold on the the 5" Caldwell targets I put up. I've heard some say the illumination could be brighter, but mine showed up on snow on a sunny day. So far I love this scope. Even at 4x, it seems pretty easy to hold groups to an inch, if I do my part. To say I'm impessed with this barrel would be an understatement. For a $180 tube it will shoot right with barrels costing much more. Anyways, here's the rifle as it sits now. I have a Magpul ACS stock coming that will go on it, but I was anxious to shoot it so I just threw on an M4 stock I had handy. Not sure yet if I'm crazy about the Rolling Thunder comp yet, it works awesome, but it's damn loud. Overall it was a great day, time for a beer now
  2. Okay your post has me confused a bit. The reason the M2 likes to grab your thumb is due to the forked lifter, which is what gets welded up. This isn't an issue on an 870 at all. Actually the easiest loading shotgun I own is a Winchester 1300 Defender. But come game time I'm grabbin my M2 I'm talking about how most shotguns where the shell lifter stays down. The M590's stays up all the time, and the Nova stays up once pressed up, both of which resolve this problem through the way the action works. Does this make them more mechanically fragile? I don't think so or else the M590 wouldn't have won the USMC contract. So what gives? Why can't semi autos solve the thumb bit problem another way? Yes, the question was put forth why don't all the lifters come pre welded so as to not eat your thumb? I just thought it was odd that there are examples that solve this problem through designing the lifter out of the loading process. Gotcha...I guess I don't know the answer to that one. The lifter on my 1300 stays up on its own also.
  3. From the bottom to the top is easiest. What I did on mine was give it a slight (and I meen very slight) bend right at the 2 cut-outs in the shell catch. kind of a trial and error process.

  5. Hey Caz. All I really did on it was clean up the hammer/sear engagement surfaces a bit and took a tiny bit off the length of engagement. It was horribly rough out of the box with a big catch in it half-way through the pull. It's still not what I would call "awesome", but it's way better than it was. One could easily take a bunch more material off it to reduce the pre-travel and take some spring out to reduce the pull, but it's good enough for this shotgun, for me at least. There was another post on here somewhere (I think it was here, I could be wrong) with detailed instructions and pic's on how to do a full trigger job. Personally for me, I didn't think it was worth risking any reliability to have a "break like glass" trigger on a 3-gun shotgun. If it was my dedicated trap gun it would be a different story.
  6. I didn't modify for ghost loading on mine cause as it sit's it has a 10+1 round capacity, but for your other questions you can read my post on what I've done to my new M2 here. There's another great thread on here by Jesse T. about how to set up an M2. Should be an easy search to find that one. Good luck with the M2. With just a little work they are pretty sweet.
  7. I practice wind sprints several times a day........Every time I go outside, I sprint to get someplace warm.....It's dang cold here in MN I all seriousness I have been working on conditioning as well. I'm in decent shape, but am in the process of trimming back from 195lbs to 180lbs (I'm 5' 10") and have about 5 more to lose. Several have metioned to practice up on the 5" plates for the CMMG shoot and I've been doing so. I have a pile of 5" knock downs at my diposal that I've been using. With the mild winter I was fortunate to get in quite a bit of live fire practice even in December. Now that winter is finally here, it's going to be a couple months before I can get to the range. It's just dry fire for now.
  8. All sounds good dude, but you're in the wrong forum. Mods please move or delete.
  9. I just bought a new MTAC off eBay for $360 shipped. There's a 4 paige thread on the Burris MTAC/TAC30 here. Burris MTAC
  10. Soon....The scope should be here sometime in the next couple days. I need to find another stock. I was going to pick up a Magpul ACS from someone, but they decided to keep it for a future build. So the search continues for a deal on a different one.....no luck so far. At least I got the shotgun finished
  11. Wow, 10" targets at 400 yards. That's going to be a challenge for my 5 MOA dot Burris Extreme Tactical red dot, I may need to re-think my set up a bit. It's even tougher once the targets get splattered with mud, aren't painted, and/or it's pouring rain. That was the way my squad had to shoot them last year and it sucked. I too was using a red dot but it did little good when the target isn't visible. Craig Actualy I am registered to shoot Tac-Optics now. The Burris MTAC on 4x should definetly help in that department. I'll still be keeping my fingers crossed for blue skies and sunshine though.
  12. Sounds interesting up until "the send your lower to California" part. With all the crazy laws in that country, I feel like I'm breaking the law just crossing the border (which I probably am, who knows?). The fastest u-turn I have ever made was on a coyote/quail hunting trip in SW AZ. We're driving around with a truck full of weapons in compliance with AZ law when we see the sign "Welcome to California".......SCREEEEECH and U-Turn
  13. Thanks for the advice guys. I’m Just trying to keep things well rounded. I am doing 3 mag reloads with every draw and dry fire drill. The draw practice comes mostly, because I also do some steel challenge type shooting as well. Also do it to help form that muscle memory to know exactly where my hand goes to draw on the run. Rifle mag changes come mostly from the stages I have seen that have a forced reload at some point, but I have trimmed that drill back to 10 every other day or so. I’ll start throwing some position drills in the mix, though I don’t have much room to maneuver where I’ve been practicing. My main goal right now is to get my weak hand shotty reloads down to 8 shells in under 6 seconds. I’m down to about 6.5, but I’ll keep working at it. Need to get an actual shot timer as well, bless the wife for trying to help me, I’m just not sure how accurate the stop watch clicking is. Funny though, I had a couple bobbles last night that put me in the 8 second range and she sure gave me a hard time about it. When I have the house to myself I try to practice target transitions (picture a mini-indoor safari with my taxidermy, wildlife prints and various targets of opportunity). If I ever left the curtains open, I’m guessing my neighbors would think I was out of my mind. Less than 4 months to the match!!!
  14. Just finished a build using the Nordic HG and really like it. You don't need a spanner wrench to install it. A wide flat screw driver and a rubber mallet does the trick just fine. Other than how it attaches it's about identical to the JP VTAC, but about 1/2 the price.
  15. I just went right over the top and used the factory texture as guide of sorts.
  16. So I'm fairly new to three gun, I just started last year, but like so many others am all in, hook, line and sinker. Wondering what the top shooters out there are doing for a drill routine. Right now I am trying to stick to a regular training regiment, but sometimes life gets in the way. Here's what I try to do every evening right now. 1. (20) Pistol draw and 3 mag reloads 2. (20) Rifle mag changes 3. (20) shotgun reloads I don't have a shot timer yet, so right now my wife times me with a stop watch. I must say she has been very supportive and on the busy nights she is the one that tells me to go put on my gear for practice. Right now for shotgun reloads I can consistently load 6 (3+3 grab out of a 6 round carrier in under 5 sec) and 8 (4+4 out of 2 carriers in just a tick or 6 seconds). This is using the weak hand reload method with the gun shouldered. Just wondering what others are doing as far as drills and training. Coming this May I'll be going to the CMMG Midwest Championships and have set a personal goal to finish in the top 20%. This will be my first major match and am totally pumped about it. That said I am in this for fun before fame and if I totaly suck and finish last, I'll still walk away smiling. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
  17. The beveling is pretty easy with the dremel if you take your time. I did most the work with a sanding drum, squared it all up with a square stone and polished it up with cratex. I didn't go crazy with mine, but it made a difference. You can see what all I've done in this thread My New M2. Biggest differce for me was just a slight tweak to the shall catch. Mine was horribly stiff when I first got it. Here's a couple pics of my load port
  18. Another one for the Ergo Deluxe. Second choice would be the Hogue.
  19. Thanks kschwan. I've been trying to do just that, but I'm still not quite where I wanted to be by now. I do have about 2000 .223 rounds loaded. With all the nice days we've had this winter, I've been shooting when usually I would be loading. I'm down to about 500 .40 rounds and am out of bullets again. Also burned through about 200 of my 12 ga loads the last couple weeks breaking in a new M2. I just picked up enough components to load about 2000 more rounds of 12ga today. I'll be plenty busy the next couple days crankin away on the old Mec. I really need to get some more .40 bullets here so I can get the Dillon back to work again though.
  20. For the same reason. If the forked design of the lifer does it's best to remove your thumb nail while loading weak-hand, welding it up solves the problem. It's all to individual tastes and loading style. If it doesn't grab your thumb, no need to do anything. I never had trouble until recently switching to an M2. It quickly became painfully obvious that the lifter had to get welded up ASAP.
  21. For me the difference was night and day. Huge improvement over stock.
  22. Got my M2 lifter back today and just sent it off last Friday. If you didn't know better you couldn't tell it wasn't factory. I am extremely happy with the work and quick turn around. My thumb thanks you as well.
  23. Thanks for putting up this thread guys. Ordered my new MTAC today to make my transition to Tac-optics. Got it for $360 shipped off eBay
  24. Thanks guys . I think I will stick with the RR NM trigger for now. I've set up a few of the Jard triggers for precision rifles, mostly because you can get the pull weight below most. One thing that I have found for sure is plenty of blue loctite is your best friend and make sure you get it adjusted before it sets. Done right they are a pretty nice trigger, I'm just not sure about it for 3-gun.
  25. Got the lifter back from C-rums today and must say Jeff does great work. Getting the lifter welded, tuning the shell release and a little trigger work has completely transformed this gun. Being fiscally challenged I will admit taking the dremel and a hot soldering iron to a brand new $1000 shotgun was a little un-nerving, but in the end worth it. I now really love what I was concerned I was going to hate when I first shot it. It has to be 10x easier to load now than when I took it out of the box. Hopefully it's above zero tomorrow so I can go run some rounds through it. Anyways here's the new boomstick. Update.....Well it's like -20 windchill temp today with winds gusting up to 50mph here in the frozen north, but I just went out and ran 75 trouble free rounds through the new stick. Couldn't help myself. Now I just need to thaw out. Pretty sure I'm done with the outside activities for the day
