  1. Mine broken a couple months ago. I removed the pin ends and reinstalled them using Red Loc-Tite in the slide. I contacted SA and they said I had to send them the slide to get the pin replaced. Since I shoot my 525 three or four times a week, I just haven't bothered. The pin ends haven't budged, either.
  2. Wise advice for more than just shooting
  3. Stock rear and Dawson .100" front in green. I like the green because it pops out better for my vision and choice of shades.
  4. If it was so blatantly illegal, how come you are the only one that mentioned it? Note that there is not a consensus here, either. Why didn't you contest the WSB during the walk-through? Obviously you didn't think it was so obvious and shot the stage as written. Stop the hyperbole, obviously we don't intend to build illegal stages, and do the best we can with what we got.
  5. Yeah, I'm not going to get much done next week The NRA HQ is literally a mile from my hotel there
  6. I will be travelling up to the Fairfax/Chantilly area next week. Any good evening matches or ranges to check out? I will have free time Tuesday afternoon and all day Thursday. TIA, Erich
  7. Well, at least everyone had fun shooting it When some folks offer to build more props and help setup, then they can play rulebook lawyer all day long while the rest of us have fun shooting through illegal ports
  8. As your event grows, try going down to 4 or 5 stages instead. 8 stages for 40 people is a long time on the range.
  9. You can register and shoot multiple guns at the OSA Steel Challenge. Many guys shoot a 22 with C-More or some optic, and then a centerfire 9mm or even 45. You can also bring a rimfire rifle like a 10/22 or AR15 with a .22 conversion or upper.
  10. It's the curved tape-mount adapter that I stuck to the side of my Ear Pro. Works pretty well, so far.
  11. I would write 23.60. I am a pilot and have to hear, interpret, and repeat decimal digits for radio freqs a lot. There is a standard way of saying decimal digits in aviation, but it's not always followed. As for this example, I would probably clarify 23.6 vs 20.36, but I would write 23.6 initially. I also tell my RO that I want to hear "Point" in there somewhere. Good discussion!
  12. I'm using the Contour Roam, one of the base units in the Contour line. Got it on sale for $167 at Amazon. Here's video from the past weekend's match: This one, I came in 4th overall Production: http://combinedresults.info/index.php/competitor/264606 Didn't remember the camera on the classifier.
  13. If you want to try a Steel Match, you can join us at the Ocala Sportman's Association range in Candler, FL, just north of Lady Lake/Leesburg. Here's a link to them: http://osarange.com/Default.aspx?pageId=863185 Also, here's a link to the Central Florida Section USPSA website that has lots of info on the area's matches, including Gainesville, Wildwood, and the Tampa Area: http://www.centralfloridasection.com/ Hope to see you around
  14. I have two examples of port shooting in the following video. First at 1:09 and the other at 1:50. The first is an ending port shot, the other is a starting port shot. I'm no expert, but I follow their advice and stay out of them.
  15. I watched a buddy of mine do something similar recently. He had two poppers and two paper right in front of him on a really long course. At the start, he shot the poppers and took off running without engaging the papers at all I've gone running right by paper targets that I knew were there...even said to myself in the walk-through, "I will run right by that." Your brain executes the last thought about a situation, and so I did after saying I would. This is a funny sport sometimes!

  17. It was, but I dunno if it was $230 neat...
  18. 90% of the problems you see at a match with a gun are ammo related. Most of us reload our own, and sometimes a bad round finds its way into the batch at the worst times. A couple weeks ago I had a bad round cost me what probably would have been an A Class classifier. See 2:00 in this video. I had a fail to fire from a bad primer on the second to last shot. I still got 4.79 sec but it would have been in the 3's had the round gone off:
  19. Kool, you can get the grip tape at Powder River Precision for $16, laser cut and ready to apply.

  20. I know how to auto-forward my XDm with pretty consistent results, but just in case I sweep the release anyways. Look at my reloads on the second stage in this video (time 0:50). The first and last one's I got to auto-forward, but the middle reload was done with less intent and had to be released.
  21. Just shoot your Production Rig in Limited. There's nothing you need to buy or change.
  22. Actually, my point was you should start in Limited to get your feet wet, then "move up" to Production There's no such thing as moving up a Division. Divisions only recognize different equipment platforms and related rules. Classes are what you move up in: U, D, C, B, A, Master, Grand Master. The reason many suggest Limited to start is because you are less likely to run afoul of some restrictive equipment rules in Production, such as holster or Mag pouches in the wrong place, one too many rounds in a mag, etc. It also takes the stress off you in planning repeated mag changes for a long course stage. Generally, there is less to worry about when shooting in Limited, so you can concentrate on the fundamentals, safety, and learning how matches run. Once you get all that worked out, and are ready to really start competing, bring your 525 into Production and tear up the competition where EVERYONE is scored as minor.
