  1. A PC 610 makes sense. Cool gun, though its appeal outside our sport has proven to be rather limited. Maybe if they designated it a "Miculek" model it would sell better? There seem to be tons of buyers for the Jerry model 625 PC who never intend on shooting our sport. I hope the 625 returns. It was a cool gun.
  2. agree - I think Angus uses the increased strength mag springs. "Mainspring" used above means: hammer spring. You REALLY want to use a lighter spring as it controls the DA trigger pull. You might to switch to RELIABLE primers if you lower the spring weight - such as Federal brand.
  3. BE CAREFUL WITH THE OAL OF THIS BULLET!!!!! I loaded some out past 1.200 (don't recal exact OAL). THEY RAN RIGHT INTO THE RIFLING. Thank God it was enough to stop the slide from going into battery or this could have been very bad. This was on a CZ-97B (their only .45 ACP handgun). Used them up in my S&W 625 (where there was plenty of room).
  4. That is excellent news! EDIT - info on the ILA site now too.
  5. Few more Q.s if anyone can lend a hand: I have the Lee die set around here someplace w/ the Lee FCD; any of you skip the crimp w/ the AR? Any issues? Understand that Dillon makes the only Carbide .223 die and its supposed to be great, even if costly. BUT - anyone know if Hornady does/will offer their .223 dies with the titanium nitride coating? In their pistol dies, that coating replaces the carbide and I'd imagine a coating (even titanium carbide) would be easier to manufacture than machining a traditional carbide ring. Fianlly, best price/source for 1000 or more 55 grn FMJ BT bullets? Thanks, D.
  6. Thought Colt recently moved their production line to Canada? Its still "America" as in North America, but I think the idea was Made in USA?
  7. Old thread - but it comes to mind since a former star of the U. MD basketball team, Lonnie Baxter, just accepted a plea deal for violating laws on shipping firearms by common carrier. He was moving from one state to another and apparently sent the guns to himself. Remember, you have to TELL the counter monkeys at FedEx that there is a gun in the box. And - they can't mark it on the outside (they just tell their buddies in the back there's a gun inside so the package can "disappear" after hours - brilliant.). Here is the batfe section: (B8) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier? [back] A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm. [18 U.S.C. 922(a)(2)(A), 922(a) (3), 922(a)(5) and 922(e), 27 CFR 478.31 and 478.30] And the story: http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/bal...local-headlines Turns out his guns were forfiet as part of the plea: Baxter has a prior D.C. felony conviction for, among other things, "Unregistered Ammunition" - a violation of D.C.'s ultra strict gun ban. Possess ammunition in D.C. = felony (unless you are a resident with a gun registered in the caliber - only they don't register guns in D.C. anymore).
  8. Well that is a problem; many STIs - especially the ones built by STI - just won't run 100% reliably on "short" or "factory length" .40 ammo - which is really too short anyway. You really should feed the gun appropriate length ammo - in the vicinity of 1.180 to 1.220" oal or so. Gold Dot duty is usually 1.125" OAL. Besides, if you load to a longer appropriate OAL your brass will last longer and you can use a faster powder for less perceived recoil at the longer OAL. This is important for competing in USPSA. If you insist on factory-length .40 cal only, an STI 5.0 is probably not the gun for your duty use. And a custom built Limited Division race gun may not be the ideal duty sidearm (though i am prepared for the crap-storm that is sure to follow this statement).
  9. HAHAHAHA! I have a 340PD too and I had a conversation with Bob about it at the last Thurmont shoot. Sorry to hear the frame went south on you Bob; I will have to check mine. BTW, our ICORE director organized a snubby-oriented match (5 round nuetral) at Shooters before the place burned down. Shot it with the 340PD and .38s (well - they met the ICORE power factor anyway). Its not so easy getting that thing out of the pocket and into action in a hurry. Eye opening experience that was.
  10. Hahaha- good one Bob! Detroit does not give a rat's ass about building fuel efficient or affordable vehicles and they went to D.C. this year to lobby congress NOT to increase fuel standards - just as they do every year. Detroit deserves what it gets (except they don't deserve legislative "protection"). Let the Mobsters - er, I meant teamsters/UAW work like the rest of us based on their education amd not congressional handouts. And no surprise to heat that M.O.M. (Martin O'Malley - MD's new gov) proposed tax increases to help you live better - yet another predictable move by the nanny state. We used to be a country of inovators and inventers. Now we are just a bunch of whiners. Sad.
  11. Dunno about the pistol primers. BUT - I tuned my AR-15 trigger/hammer with JP springs (only springs) to where it will only set off 2 brands of ammo reliably: Federal and Wolf .223. I have the impression that Wolf is fairly reliable/sensitive. Dunno if its the primer cup or the compound though.
  12. Really does not matter WHAT the speed limit is; its still the driver's duty to get out of the passing lane if faster traffic approaches. It really pisses me off when I hear somebody complain: "Well I was going the posted speed limit so I had a RIGHT to be in the left lane and the person flashing their lights at me has no right to speed and its unsafe!" Really? Who gave YOU police powers over speeders? And what makes you think your speedometer is correct? Or that there is not a 10 MPH buffer ABOVE the speed limit granted by police? And speeding (if they even are speeding) always unsafe? I am married to a German & we've been on the Autobahn many times; speed alone is not unsafe.
  13. Here is a link to the PMC primer plant - actually the Murom plant: www.flame.murom.ru/ I have used PMC for years. No problem with Wolf/PMC primers. I trust PMC. Even if they are Russian.
  14. I hear ya Yoshidaex! With a Civic and a Miata as our family cars, we aren't feeling the pain - though the Miata is not exactly the ideal road trip car.
  15. Aren't those from the same factory as PMC?
  16. Double charges and overcharges are proven to create higher pressure and possibly blown cylinders as described. The concept of "light charge/detonation" is just a theory. There is no evidence to support it. But, it is a whole lot less embarrasing to blame a blown up gun on the "light charge" myth instead of owning up to a reloading mistake. My vote is for double charge since the company ruled out defective steel.
  17. Those are just variations on STIs. Don't forget that world champ Jarrett used a Para & beat all other makes. And Graufel uses a Gold Team Tanfoglio. And there is the Caspian back on the market - plus John Nagel is building open 9mm major Glocks. Plus the CZ guys are using the new Tactical Sports 9mm to build open guns. Why limit yourself?
  18. Correct you are. He started with N310 and it shot very soft but accuracy was not there. Then he found the best accuracy with N350, but too much recoil. He settled on N320. Use up the N340, then the N350, then trade the N105 for some Solo 1000 or Titegroup.
  19. That appearance is usually the result of slight nicks that result from too many cases and not enough media. You might try changing the ratio. The other tricks I found useful: -add a cap full of liquid car polish to JUST THE MEDIA and turn machine on for 5 to 10 min. THEN add dirty casings. This really cleans and shines up the cases and seems to reduce cleaning time to 1 hr. -add a 5"x5" piece of damp rag or a damp dryer sheet to the load. Cuts dust. Discard dirty sheet w/ each use.
  20. Another satisfiedf Solo 1000 user. Good stuff!
  21. Loading long has these benefits: -lower pressure for a given bullet/powder/PF -easier on the brass -easier on the chamber (see: "ringed chamber") -better feeding in most STI/SV/SPS guns -lower pressure means faster powder; faster powder means softer recoil Reality is that at 1.200 to 1.240" (as some chambers can take) the round is really the OAL of the 10mm cartridge. I would never load, for example, Clays powder to major in the OALs listed in most manuals (1.125") as it would be unsafe. But at 1.240" OAL, the pressures would be so much lower that I might consider it. Same goes for V V N310. As is, I don't risk using either Clays or N310, because I have gobs of Solo 1000, and Solo 1000 has PUBLISHED data to major with 180s at short lengths, its clean, cheap, works in place of N320, and is soft shooting. Why push it with anything faster?
  22. THat is an excellent response. Sad fact is that this group is "presenting these 'skills'" to the entire internet community and correction through training in USPSA,IDPA - heck anything more safe than what they are doing - would be the best course of action.
  23. Funny thing: many of the posters on the host forum responded "NEVER shoot at steel!" - I guess those folks don't shoot much USPSA/IPSC/IDPA/GSSF/SASS/SteelChallenge/3gun/multigun/Bianchi, which really makes you wonder: -what DO they shoot?
  24. Just look at the link on the bottom of my post. Let the old man's words (congressional testimony actually) speak for themselves. He hated motorcycles too. True, now he's dead. But, unlike S&W, there does not seem to be any deviation from his philosophy (i.e. - the only 30 round factory Ruger mini-14 mags you can buy are those that come through LEO distributors who Ruger sells to with the policy that the mags not be sold to the public. However, the mags are legal and the distributors sell them to us anyway. Try ordering a 30 rounder right from Ruger. Good luck.). Their "no parts for you!" policy is not too friendly either. Do I hope they will change? Of course. BTW, to be fair, the stock products are OK. I once owned a Redhawk .44 Mag and it was both reliable and accurate while I owned it.
  25. Because you live in Cali, you really don't have a choice. Except, actually, you do. Winning gun at the Nationals was actually a Glock. Believe those are CA approved, have better mag capacity, are made in the USA, and they cost a lot less too (plus there are prebans for it). Now, there are 140 MM mag extensions for the excellent US made M&P 40 and it costs less too. And don't forget about the Tanfoglios that Henning sells (should be pre-bans around for that one) or the CZ Tactical Sports .40 - it also has capacity equal to the S_I. These are winning guns in the right hands.
