  1. Are you running the 4", the 5" or the 6" slide version of the 5906 ?? It might make a difference as to what holster fits.
  2. Well, if it matters to you, DPMS is a major sponsor of our sport - and I think that counts for quite a bit. No reason not to use a DPMS - from all the positive reports here.
  3. Agreed. As an FYI, the Starline 9x23 brass is excellent. It was once called "9mm Supercomp" - only thing that changed was the headstamp. I have also used range pick up brass marked .38 Lapua and .38 TJ once it was resized in a 9x23 die. There was once an aluminum case CCI Blazer factory loading for "9mm Largo" that I used for practice ammo in my SV without difficulty - I doubt it made it to major & haven't seen it for years.
  4. No, not at all. Titegroup is safe. It is widely used in Limited and can safely reach major using book loads loaded much shorter ("Normal" .40 OAL - around 1.125 to 1.135" OAL) - which is much shorter than the typical Tanfoglio Limited gun or S_I can handle. -Advantages are: - its fairly fast so it does not recoil much - about on par with N320 recoil outdoors (see below). When loaded to major, its quite clean. Key is to keep the pressure up. At minor, it leaves some soot. Its cheap. It meters great - about like W231/HP-38. Available everywhere. Lots of "book data" if that maters to you. And its not position sensitive. Produces great accuracy. - Disadvatages are: - it burns very hot. Highest nitro content of the double-based powders at 37% (BTW, all V V are single base, i.e. NO nitro). With exposed lead base FMJ, coated or bare lead bullets, TG produces more smoke than anything else due to the heat (no issue here if you use JHP or TMJ'd bullets). Also, you might need to be indoors to see it, but it seems to have more of a "blast" at the muzzle than V V or clays. Not more recoil - just more blast. Outdoors, you likely won't see it at all, especially if shooting fast. Due to the heat produced, there is some speculation that it might lead to increased throat erosion, though I think that is still just speculation. If you are using a polygonal rifled barrel (like a Glock) there have been instances of tumbling TMJ'd bullets and TG. Overall, a very good powder if you insist on sticking only to published data.
  5. It was good to see Julie back in the game last Sunday - and she was as friendly as ever. I do not think that S&W could have chosen a better spokesperson for their new 1911 line and M&P models - which appear to be shaping up as great pistols for USPSA, IDPA and their other intended purposes. 6. EGW U die. .40s seperate case heads due to set back. U die prevents set back. But its actually made by lee and modified by EGW.
  7. Sounds promising. Maybe there will be a domestic replacemnt for the scarce and expensive V V N-310 that produces such great .45 and 9minor loads.
  8. ?? - the only limit on magazine length is 170mm. Unless you are talking about a single stack gun. Jeremy - can you provide more info on the gun? What ramp is it cut for now?
  9. If it matters to you, there are certain companies that REALLY step up to support our sport with generous match sponsorship, prizes, etc. If I were you, I would buy (in order): -Dan Wesson (CZ-USA owned - generous sponsor) -Springfield (TGO's employer) -S&W (Julie Goloski's employer) -S_I (USPSA Gold sponsor - and a gun for every price range) -ParaOrd (Todd Jarret's sponsor) -Rock River Arms and though they don't sell guns complete, Caspian supports us big time. I am sure I miseed a few (feel free to jump in with positive sponsorship reports). There are several other companies - big ones - I won't name and while they might make an OK gun, they have told the shooting sports: "Tough luck!" - well, you can tell them what YOU think - with your next purchase.
  10. Apparently, some of the Czech shooters are using 9mm open guns built on the larger TS frame. Difference is that the TS frame is larger and can handle ammo out to 1.170" while the Champ uses a standard 9mm CZ-75 frame which is a little smaller. It should hold up just as well, if not better, than the old Srpingfield Armory/tanfoglio P-9 open guns that were fed a constant diet of 175+ PF ammo and later converted to 9x21.
  11. I think those look great! I machined a few of my own some time ago and on an individual basis it is a PITA. This looks like a better solution.
  12. --> QUOTE(Paul B @ Mar 30 2007, 10:36 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If this starts down the wrong road don't waste any time putting in a complaint with the Ohio Insurance Department. You can do it online. Insurance companies hate to answer these things even if they don't give in. There are fair claims practices and long delays are one of the main no-no's. If this doesn't work you may have to get a lawyer or go to small claims court - although there aren't many of these in Ohio. Excellent ideas. Having tangled with big insurance all the way into the courtroom, this course of action should get their attention. Just be prepared to shop for a new insurance company.
  13. I have a loaded .45 case someplace around here that no longer has a readable headstamp. Believe I loaded it w/ a 230 Zero FMJ over enough clays to make major and I'd shoot it in any of my guns without worry. If it does not split, I'll be re-using that piece of brass as long as I can. .45 ACP runs very very low pressure and it is a very forgiving caliber to reload.
  14. Good discussion. Can anyone clarify which completed Caspian models are allowed in Limited and L-10? How were they certified/approved?
  15. re-read the post: "auctions will start April 2 and run until April 13th" Seller is legit. Currently disposes of several hundren pounds of used knifes, letherman tools, scissors, etc. Why? Confiscated by the state. Appears he has a contract with PA.
  16. See post #13 here: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=40102 Solo 1000 data PDF.
  17. I don't have anything for Solo-1000. I load 180 grain Zero JHPs over 5 grains of Bullseye. It works well for my Glock 23, giving me 950 fps on the chrono or a PF of 170. I'm in the process of selling the Glock and buying a Kimber 1911 single stack for my .40 shooting. I just like shooting 1911 guns. I'll be working up something, probably using the same bullet, or some kind of lead bullet for that gun soon. Lee See page 1, post #13 for a link to factory Major .40 data and Solo 1000. BTW, the load that Raul was good enough to run a Quickload on (thanks Raul!) did not make it to major out of my KKM barreled SV .40. It might do so out of your gun. Shot soft & no pressure signs. Bullet was a Star brand 180 grain. <EDIT> Here is the data: .40 S&W SV w/ KKM bull barrel. Powder: Solo 1000, 4.5 grains, 180 Grn FMJ, 1.145" mixed cases Federal small pistol primer: Avg. 838 FPS, SD: 12 (10 rounds), PF: 150.8.
  18. Supposed to go on sale on April 2. Here is the link - sell looks legit. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&...=9&t=561168 Could be mostly once-fired. Too bad they don't seem to be selling any 9mm (its all I shoot these days). The link above is all the info I have. Enjoy.
  19. No worries. I also shoot a CZ and will be there Sunday. Your gun is just fine for this weekend's shoot. Since it best fits into Limited/Minor, you might want to bring your normal capacity, 15 or 16 round magazines and load them all the way up. If anyone mistakenly says anything about "10 rounds" just remind them you are shooting Limited Minor. And concentrate on good hits over speed (no matter what the other folks on the squad do). Bring the best/most reliable mags you have. You can probably get by every single stage with 3 (~45 rounds) but if you need any extra, I can lend you one or two for the day. You will probably be more than fine with 4 boxes of ammunition (200 rounds). But again, anyone will lend you a few rounds if you come up short. See you Sunday. TY-44934
  20. Its true! Last time I shot pins with a rifle, the EXACT same thing happened. I was using an old Colt M-4 upper (1/7) that they once sold through SGN for $400. Ammo was green tip surplus. Pins were at 50 yards on a 2x4. The rounds just zipped right through the pins. I thought I was missing the pins and was on a frustrating 2nd 30 round mag until one of the RO's started watching w/ binoculars and announced: "you are hitting them OK, but they are not falling." I traded that M4 for a Colt 9mm upper btw. By comparison, a pin on a 2x4 will fall over when hit with a lead .22 rimfire bullet - even from a pistol. For a stake shoot, I'd use some sort of soft point or JHP.
  21. Quick clarification: Power Factor is 160 for Open. Minimum bullet weight is practical 121 grains. Randy is in Belgium and must follow IPSC rules, not USPSA. Even at 180 PF, I have never seen pressure signs with N-105 & 9mm supercomp. You should find 3N38 to be quite similar. Can you describe the pressure signs? What OAL? Any chance the bullet is touching the rifling?
  22. Excellent! Thanks for posting these.
  23. Glad you posted this. Breach face pitting is caused by gas leaking around the primer. Usual cause is the use of magnum or rifles primers where they are not called for (specifically, never use those for a Minor load). I have also seen it with the super hard CCI primers.
  24. Reason Federals go off when other primer brands fail is the fact that Federal uses a different priming compound than the other big 3. Might have this backwards, but Win/Rem/CCI use "normal" while Federal is the only one using "basic" compound of lead styphnate. Given that the other 3 use the same compound, it appears CCI also uses a harder alloy in the primer cup and makes that cup slightly taller - making the CCIs tougher to set off in revolvers and glocks. You should be OK w/ winchester or remington given your "duty" action job.
