  1. Whenever you change bullets, you need to do the OAL drop test in your barrel starting too long and decreasing a little at a time until you find the length with that bullet that just chambers fully, then shorten slightly. When you find that length, write it down for each type of bullet for future reference. Seating depth will/can change with every different bullet due to Dia., ogive shape, length and shape of nose, etc. Berrys will also tend to be slightly larger dia. than jacketed bullets like PD's, as will cast if you try those later. Part of the cool thing about reloading is you get to taylor your loads for what works best in your pistol Don
  2. This type of FTF is generally caused by the extractor if the ammo drops in OK with barrel out. Either too much tension or burrs or sharp corners on hook or notch. Do you have this problem before you replaced the extractor two months ago? Generally less extractor tension is better with SWC's. Also, check to be sure you don't have a small burr at firing pin hole and that breech face is smooth
  3. That would be a great load to start with but make them 1.125" to 1.130". They should be right at 130 PF and accurate. My XD actually likes AA #2 (3.9grs) better and shoots Zero 125 JHP #161, 162, or # 136 (all are 125gr JHP's)better than the pd's but Pd's are a little cheaper. All are loaded to 1.125" and in sorted brass are Bullseye accurate out of my XD.
  4. O.K. G17. If it's a stock Glock barrel, try a slightly longer OAL for better accuracy: like 1.130" to 1.140". If you're looking to shoot minor PF, you could also probably knock a couple of tenths off the WW231 powder charge and still make minor easily. 4.3 grs. WW 231 behind the #136 bullet @ 1.130" makes 1050 FPS (131PF)out of my G34 and is very accurate Don
  5. You don't need to be .020"-.030" off the lands. If they hit the rifling @ 1.110" you can load them @ 1.100" no problem. I have an XD 9 Tactical and the only bullets that hit at that short of length in mine are the Hornady 125 HAP and the Sierra 115 or 125 JHC. I load PD 125 JHP, Zero #162 JHP, Zero #161 JHP, and Zero #136-C (all 125gr) @ 1.125". I have used a lot of VN320 and my best load for it is 3.9 Grs. with the above bullets for 1050FPS (PF 131). If you have to load @ 1.100" start with 3.7 or 3.8 grs. and you should be way safe, then chrono and adjust accordingly. Don
  6. When asking for load data, it would be helpfull if you tell us what cartridge and what firearm your loading those into. I'm guessing you're shooting 9 x 19 and lcs is giving you OAL for 38SC. By the way, I've shot ton's of the Zero #136 bullet and use the same OAL as for the # 162. They also make the #161, which is the same as the #162 but.356"(Same diameter as the Hornady HAP) and is very accurate out of Glock barrels
  7. Cool thanks, yeah, my goal on adjusting the crimper was to just get the flare out, as that is mostly what I have read... And hey, I love my Glock! It used to shoot tight groups... Here are some generalities that might help you get better results out of your Glock; Glocks generally like fat bullets, I.E .3555" to .356" Mine likes Zero's or Hornadys the best, especially the Hornady 125 HAP or the Zero #161 125gr JHP. But it shoots the #136 and # 162 almost as well. Unlike Jack, I have never found Zeros to be undersize with my #136 and #162's miking right at .355" and the #161's @ .356". I can't say the same for all other brands. The Hornady HAP's are .356". My Glocks shoot noticibly better with JHP's or Truncated cone's than with RN's If your crimp die is squeezing the loaded round at all,, it will affect the accuracy. I use a std Taper crimp die set to barely remove the bell. WW231 should shoot very accurate and make minor out of your 19 @ about 4.3 to 4.6 grs. with a 124 or 125. I use 4.2 grs for PF 131 but that's with a 5" tactical Barrel. With the above bullets, I use 1.130" OAL which works best in my Glocks and XD's. You can buy a sample of 100 from Zero, or PD if you call them and you can get a box of 100 Hornady HAP's on line from Graf's, Powder Vally, etc. just to try. Hope that helps Don
  8. I could use one of the XD 45 baseplates as I have one that's cracked. Thanks, Don
  9. I use mostly Win, Fed, and PMC and definately use all the same headstamp for match shooting. I don't like R-P for the same reason OP listed (thin wall= not enough neck tension)I have used magtech (CBC) in 9mm and like it fine but haven't tried it in 45.
  10. Start by pulling the barrel out of your gun and seating the bullet .005-.010" off the lands! You can't use an OAL dimension from someone else because they have a different barrel with different bullet. Amen
  11. PD's are fine but they don't make a 200 gr Jacketed HP
  12. I have fired them in my XD 45 Tactical. OAL = 1.195" (touches lands @ 1.200"-1.205") Very Accurate at low end Major velocity (825-850) I tested them with Vit N310, Bullseye, Scot Royal D (discontinued but almost identical to S1000 and I have 8lbs. of it) and HP-38. N310 and Royal D were the most accurate but Royal D was way softer. No Smoke, No exposed lead, priced in between lead and jacketed and the TC shape should feed in just about anything
  13. Very Nice workmanship on that mold!
  14. I have done considerable testing in 9mm and 38 super with 124/125 gr bullets and here's what I've found (in order of accuracy): Hornady HAP's are very hard to beat for consistancy and accuracy Zero #161 .356" JHP 125's are very close to the HAPs and considerably cheaper Zero #136 conical JHP 125's are very good and group very close to the #161 Nosler 124 JHP's are very accurate but pricey. They are being used by some bullseye shooters. Zero #162 .355" JHP 125's are almost as good and depending on your barrel, may shoot as good as the 136 MG's and PD's did not group as well in my pistols (4) as the bullets above but if you need some in a hurry, are more likely to be available. Remember, when you talk about accuracy, everyones definition is not the same. If you are concerned about extreme accuracy at ranges beyond 25 yds, or are just an accuracy nut like me, then the above data will serve you well. If you are shooting steel or tactical shoots at 7-20 yds and/or don't bother to carefully work up loads for each of your pistols then it's not nearly as relavent. Just for reference: the best bullets listed above, in carefully worked up loads, fired from a Ransom rest, or carefully sandbagged have fired many groups under 1" @25yds, and under 2" @ 50 yds in my pistols
  15. Brand new replacement OEM Glock part. http://glockstore.com/pgroup_descrip/361_Slide+Stop+Lever/7155_Slide+Stop+Lever/?return=%3ftpl%3Dindex%26category_id%3D361%26_Slide%2BStop%2BLever%2F Suprised your gunsmith wasn't sure how to handle it. Sometimes well worn Glocks will need the slide notch redressed as they tend to wear, especially if shooters use it as a "slide release". Technically not what it was designed for Better on all pistols to use off hand to rack slide after a lock back unless it's an emergency reload or your off hand is incapacitated, but especially on Glocks because of slide wear to the notch.
  16. Actually, this has nothing to do with line of sight or sights at all for that matter. It has everything to do with bullet weight and barrel time. Don't believe me? mount your pistol or revolver in a ransom rest and shoot groups with 3 differant bullet weights with the same (appropriate)powder charge without changing anything else at a range of 15-25yds. You will get three separate groups with the heaviest bullet striking highest, middleweight in the middle and lightest and fastest on the bottom. Doesn't matter if it's a single shot contender, a revolver, or a semi-auto. Heavier, longer barrel guns will show a smaller change. An extreme example would be a 2" fixed sight airweight revolver going from a 110gr. +P JHP load to a 158gr SWC. I've seen a change in POI of 3"-4" in elevation @ 7yds and usually 1" or more to the left in windage for a RH shooter. At longer range external ballistics will become a factor and to figure POI you have to chronograph the load, zero at one especific distance, then enter: Sight hieght above bore, zero distance, bullet data and chrono results into a ballistic program to predict POI for other ranges.
  17. Why not call Dawson's and ask the Man himself? He has the most user friendly sight policy anywhere and I'm sure can steer you to the setup best suited for you. If you buy the front and rear from him he will make sure you get what works for you. His suggested sight heights were right on for both my G34 and my XD Tac9

  20. I'm curious......are you talking about being able to see some lead in cylinders/barrel, or actual leading that affects accuracy? The reason I ask is: I have tested with a ransom rest before and after shooting 200 rnds of PD's, as well as Zero's, without cleaning and group size is the same after 200 as it is after 6 from a clean bore. I do buy the Prec Delta's with the "Competition Lube"(only $4 more per 1K) so I can't speak for the others I use 3.1 grs. of AA #2, or 3.2 grs. of HP 38. I have also tested WW 231, Bullseye, VN 310, Solo 1000, and 700-X. Bullsye is the dirtiest. AA#2 and HP38/231 are very close but AA#2 shoots slightly better in two of my revolvers and creates slightly less smoke. Don
  21. Not sure why you're getting leading with Zeros or Prec Delta's. I have shot thousands of both in four different revolvers and a Smith 52 and they were both extremely accurate (like easy 10ring at 50 yds) when loaded with a good powder and driven to 700-775 FPS. If you try to drive them much faster they will lead and become less accurate. The sweet zone for most pistol/revolvers is between 675 & 750FPS. Federal match 38 HBWC's chrono 720-740 in my 6" revolvers. These bullets will leave a little lead flashing around the forcing cone and front of cylinder but that is easily cleaned and doesn't affect accuracy. I never experienced any real leading with either (actual lead streaks and buildup in bore)My favorite bullet years ago was the Winchester 148 HBWC but it hasn't been available in bulk for years as far as I know. Best of luck, Don
