  1. I don't load .223 but I read an article somewhere that said you need to use a slow deliberate stroke to improve the metering of the powder into the case. They were using 650's and I remember they were loading for long distance accuracy. Hope this may help some.
  2. Where's Micah?!? We are talking about coating a glock frme here...right? He's the king of blue glocks
  3. I live in Myrtle Beach. I wouldn't take the time to go all the way to Hilton Head....but Charleston is very nice and close (2hrs). Very historic and has some good food, antiques, and stuff to do. PM me if you have any questions...I have lived here since about 1988. I can give you some good Harley bars and places worth eating...especially if you are wanting a little open road drive and stop to eat then drive some more (30 min cruise). Chuck
  4. I have a roomba......now I know how destructive it can be! And I thought the wayward cord was a problem. I guess the only thing close to this is a dog with a dog door and likes to dig in the mud while you are not at home (trust me). At least the roomba didn't sling it on the walls and couch.
  5. look at static charge......and then look at the powder bar return safety.....my wing nut started backing off and it caused very erratic charging......another thing could be short stroking......some powders just reach a charge and like to try and bridge in the bar, just twisting the nut a fraction can change the consistancy. Hope this helps.
  6. I don't think you would have too much advantage...a wide left thumb safety will prop up a gun. Clearing jambs seems like an unlikely reason to have one since Limited guns seem to run better than open guns. Not saying they never jamb....but they rarely should. A table start would be slightly faster, but how come I have never seen one on a top GM's gun?
  7. I just got my call today! I am a little stunned I got it from my performance at the Area 6 this last year. I do OK but I was not expecting this. My first dumb question is, how much is the entry fee? My next dumb question...am I a fool if I turn it down? Bussiness is not great right now in the construction industry but the match is not until september. If I accept and then can't go what happens? Be kind... I have only been shooting for 4 years and not very seriously at that. No hisses from the gallery but I don't practice unless matches count!
  8. I like my DOH.....my ghost gave me a sixth sense of dropping my gun sooner than later. If you are set on only one the CR is a start. You will more than likely end up with a couple. As for the SVI Sight Tracker becoming your primary shooter.......it will. You may want to get one before you spend any more on your other guns. I started selling off my others after getting mine....I didn't want to shoot them any more. I was convinced it helped when I shot a short stage with a GM's SVI Sight tracker and knocked off over a half second....and I had never even touched the gun befor the buzzer. Good luck.
  9. I have loaded n310, titegroup and n320. Titegroup is a little dirty, n310 was a little harsh. I know many a GM and others who use Clays but I have found it to meter crapy and it smokes alot behind a precision moly. Plus clays can change with altitude change and temp I think. So I just went back to n320.....clean, safe, meters great, same PF no mater where I go.
  10. Brandon Strayer Send him an e-mail...he will answer you. I think they use 17-19 lbs in their guns. I had a Koenig hammer with a 15 ms and it seem slow compared to my SVI. You will also have a much more positive engagement between hammer and sear....plus the improved lock time metioned above. Switching the mainspring lighter is just a novice fix for a lighter pull....you would be much better off backing slightly off on the middle leaf of the sear spring and just a tad on the left leaf....BUT you will need some one to check it for you so CAUTION! There is a good article on the Brownells web site about 1911 triggers...I think it is in the benchtalk section. Also Brazos has a good article or two on setups on his site as well. Another word of advice...never put more than 2 or 3 bullets in the test mag Can you say full auto!
  11. Many laugh at it when they see it but the Wilson ADP is a very comfortable gun in small hands. 10 rounds of 9mm and seems to be accurate and reliable. It does have the recoil reducing gas piston....and night sights to boost. I will second the Kahr guns too.
  12. Bowling pins with a newish gun! Better bring your sense of humor with you! You may be humbled beyond your wildest expectations. Just remember to feel the force! Congrats....
  13. Grips are such a personal thing...everyones hands are diff. You mentioned the 34...if you have not already a 13# ISMI recoil spring is the norm with 135PF ish loads. It was a load of diiference for me. If you have already done this then never mind. Don't be afraid to experiment with diff # springs everyone has a favorite for thier gun and load. Hope this may help.
  14. Summerville shoots the first Saturday of the month! So this sat is a match. They have good matches. If you want a little drive we have a match just west of Myrtle Beach the first Sunday of the month. So this weekend also. Our match goes under the Coastal Shooters name. Welcome and good luck!
  15. Read Bob's articles on brazoscustom.com His explanations of these issues is very thorough and very clear. You may have caused a little damage but probably not alot. Give the articles a read and let us know! Triggers take quite a while to get a good grasp of what is actually going on...but you are on your way....and by the way, home gunsmithing is no free lunch...the cost of screw ups is your fee for knowledge.
  16. If you spend it on a speed setup....you may find later you regress back to a secure setup. Just shoot, one year from now you may be shooting limited or Open!
  17. For the little money it costs maybe an extra long firing pin could help. Just a few thousands longer. There are may people out there using them in pistols and revolvers.
  18. They are also a bit faster in my finding than both my bar-sto and my AET sv. I think that is why Max Jr. uses them last I heard. Not a big deal, but every little bit helps.
  19. If open doesn't turn you on (you would know quickly) and you like the mag capacity...then you have already decided...Limited! I shot L10 with my 1911 les baer and enjoyed the game. I decided to go to Limited and I had a big jump in my scores and fun factor. Now I have two guns and am in the process of selling what I don't shoot which is almost everything else. You can keep the 45 for CDP...especially if it runs well. Dump the caspian and get a tricked out limited sight tracker gun. Brandon at SVI will help you decide what you may want...don't go half way. The good news is you can look at other peoples guns and shoot the caspian until you feel comfortable with your choice. This forum will give you lots of opinions....but you already know what they say...trust your gut and use this place to steer clear of the traps.
  20. I have a les baer in hard chrome from the factory. You will need 500 rounds min. to get it to where you can rack it by hand without having to shoot it dry! It is by far the tightest and smoothest slide to frame fit of any of my guns. In blue I think they offer the best for the cheapest price.
  21. Good thing you don't live in the south...it's against the law to hate it here I think it is in my genetic code....(I don't do this) but my grandfather used to eat it with chocolate cake! Hope you have a can near your computer...even makes me
  22. I was lucky...only two years and no kids. I feel for ya. I have said this before on the boards....remember when you were just starting out and had no money? If I recall...I was happier with not much money. As long as you have the most important stuff covered...all the rest is bonus. We all wish you well
  23. I did what you are doing but got my kit from Brazos...I am sure he doesn't do them anymore, but concider a good smith to put Frame, Slide, and Barrel together for you. If you screw up any of the rest...it won't be a disaster. Mine turned out great and there is the knowledge and satisfaction from doing it yourself. The blending is what was one of the most noticable things about my gun. It just melted into my hand, because I fit it to me!
  24. I am no Grandmaster, but I shoot the steel best with "the force"...point being that I do best when I feel it happen rather than try to make it happen. You will get slower times with tention....it causes you to tense up and to have a crap time to first hit. Keep it simple and relaxed and you will do great. Oh and don't aim
  25. If you are going to ditch the recoil master go for a Tungsten guide rod...they do help the recoil. I ended up running a 12.5 variable spring on mine...but everyone is different. If something breaks, your match is probably over anyway....murphy's law prevents problems from being on the last shot of any stage You can look at it this way...when and if you break something...you get to go shopping for an upgraded part. Seriously...just shoot it the way it came...you will know when you are ready for better parts.
