  1. I'm certainly not impressed. Those "nodes" projecting into the path of the magazine are really puzzling and they contradict the whole purpose of the funnel. A little bit of roughness wouldn't bother me too much as the piece is going to take a beating in use anyway. I was about to place an order but will hold on now. I'm still waiting for a lead to where I can purchase the standard Tanfoglio funnel as that's an option for me. I know where to source one in Canada but will be in the US in a few days.
  2. That makes sense to me. But did you intend "bullet" here? "the barrel is still engaged in the rifling in the barrel"
  3. Can someone give me (Tanfo rookie) and possibly others a quick lesson in porting and comps? What do we expect to get from "poppel" holes as opposed to openings on a compensator? At some point, the gas volumes will have been bled off so as to reduce the pressure behind the bullet. How do we balance all of this action?
  4. I will be fitting a mag well to my SF Limited Pro. I'm undecided on which one. It's obvious where we need to go for the Henning model. However, where does one buy the Tanfoglio magwell? I tried taking the magwell off my LC to try on the SF LP and it fit. So I will buy one or the other but would like to consider the Tanfo once I know where to buy it.
  5. With the volumes many of us shoot, the cost of the gun fades after a short time. Between ammo, accessories and everything else that goes with shooting, the gun is just a part of the financial action. The sports are such a great way to enjoy life that as long as the costs are affordable, it's a lot better than other options. To me, the biggest plus is the fellowship which is hard to beat.
  6. I really like the colour scheme on that gun. I'll do something similar when I get my Limited Pro refinished. I like burnt bronze, OD Green, dark earth and dark burgundy. I'll use some combo of those when the time comes. The finish on those Xtremes should last very well. My Xtreme LC is all black and I had no choice.
  7. Ahhh so! That makes sense if you reload. I don't and won't but it's good to know. Thanks!
  8. You aren't alone Mr. Mulrick. I'm a duffer but my Triangle VM Tactical sure isn't. I don't give it an excuse to break a sweat but it's sure nice to own and shoot.
  9. What I haven't seen noted here are the similarities between the CZ's, Tanfoglios and the SIG P-210. They share similar frame geometry the same low bore profile and the full length rail interface between the slide and frame. They "point" very similarly too. These facts were part of the reason I started showing interest in the Tanfoglio line. The advantage of the Tanfo is it's higher capacity and the great ease of reloading. The safety is also easier to manage. All that said, both CZ and Tanfo users should try the P-210 if they get a chance. I'm betting that a wide smile will be the result.
  10. There are a few Tanfo owners on these forums that have fleets that rival Fedex. I await their comments specifically on the durability and parts topics.
  11. Our Canadian Tanfos come through a distributor that clearly cares about the shooting sports. Sean Hansen who heads up Freedom Ventures is not only prominent in IPSC circles but is also a very competitive shooter himself. Of course we also suffer from distance but I have no doubt that Sean represents our needs very well when dealing with Tanfoglio. We are also a smaller market for any manufacturer so having good people in the pipeline is even more important. I've tried to communicate with EAA on several occasions and at this point am batting about one for three or four. I understand that my American friends don't do much better. It's too bad because I see a lot of value in both my Tanfo pistols. I'll set up a small stock of important parts very soon.
  12. What makes you say that a CZ/Tanfoglio is superior to the 2011 platform? Just price? Others are much better qualified to comment than I am but I think it's a mistake to accept that Tanfoglios are built with crappy parts. There are some choice to be made including the Xtreme line. I expect that many would get very good service from a Tanfoglio and then, when necessary, upgrade worn parts with the premium versions. In any case, I think the Tanfoglio offers a very shootable alternative to the more costly 2011's. Of course there are differences but I for one like the balance and feel of the Tanfoglios particularly in action where the lower bore axis has its advantages. There are people here than know both platforms well. Would I be correct in saying that the Tanfoglio pistols would serve many shooters very well. I think it is also fair to say that time will tell how well the Xtreme pistols perform under hard use over time.
  13. I'm likely going to put a mag funnel on my Tanfo Limited Pro SF. I can find several sources for the Henning models but where do we find the Tanfoglio virgins?
  14. Can one of you gurus summarize the theory behind slide lightening for us newbies. I assume that spring weights are part of it but what are the expectations and is there a downside?
  15. Don't overlook the possibilities in the Tanfoglio lineup. There are many here far more qualified than me here but I did something recently that worked very well. As it happens, my project was on a Production gun but that might not be a bad idea for you at your stage in the shooting games. Coming off of an excellent experience buying a Tanfoglio Limited Custom Xtreme to serve as my Standard gun in IPSC, I wanted a 9mm for Production and other games but wanted to spend less while sacrificing nothing. So I bought a Tanfo Limited Pro in 9mm for less than $1100 Canadian. Then the fun started as I wanted Xtreme performance and feel while learning the gun more intimately. I found all the Xtreme parts I needed here in Canada and all the encouragement and information I needed right on this forum. Many hours of fun later and after spending about $400 on parts, my Limited Custom sings! I shot an IPSC match today and it performed perfectly. I was less than perfect but possibly shot the most satisfying match of the season here in Canada. In about a month I will head for my winter HQ in Texas and continue the fun using the gun for USPSA Production, Steel Challenge and 3Gun. The Tanfos are beefy guns that are very well behaved. Shooting 9mm minor will make it easier to learn your way around and should produce very satisfying results until you decide to move it up a notch. YMMV but this approach has worked very well for me. Here are the two guns. The Limited Pro cost me $1000 less than the Xtreme.
  16. I had one of these for a while on my Night Hawk Custom commander. I had to play with a few things to get it working well. First off, it didn't like Mini Mags as the coating on those bullets would accumulate at the feed ramp/chamber. I eventually found that Fed Bulk HP worked best. The magazines were beautifully crafted but expensive and fussy. I played around a great deal before getting the slide to lock back reliably. One of the solutions was a dedicated slide stop with a slightly curved and polished interface for the plunger pin. The best thing about that unit was the service I got from TS's tech support. In fact everyone at Tac Sol seemed to be a cut above average. Eventually I changed out my .22 Conversion for a Nelson Custom that I bought through Night Hawk. Dealing with Larry Nelson and company goes down as my best experience ever in the firearms business. The Nelson unit works perfectly, looks great and has the Nelson support that just can't be beat.
  17. She looks like a "Found" to me. Too bad if you can't keep her. She already loves you and will for life. I never would have dreamt how important my dog would be to me. Maybe she found you as part of a bigger plan?
  18. This idea appeals to me. Use two springs but fine tune just one. Two good followers should be smooth and stable. Anyone else have thoughts/comments?
  19. You were a help when I took on the refit Mr. Neal. Only the trigger is left from the exterior view and I'm not convinced there yet. I have some springs waiting for me in Texas as well as an Xtreme FPB. I'll also install a FO FS. I was extremely conservative when I did the internal cleanup but have more confidence now and will take a second careful pass touching up areas I know I missed. I haven't measured the pull but both the DA and SA are smooth and in the case of the SA as light as I want. I have the Xtreme grips for a magwell app and will pick one up later. Both guns have the same feel and of course fit the same holsters. The 9mm will be for Steel Challenge and 3Gun while the LC is now my GOTO IPSC machine. Not bad for a Tanfo rookie even if I do say so myself. :-)
  20. My Tanfo love. Upgraded Limited Pro with almost all Xreme parts, Limited Custom Xtreme..
  21. I'm not sure of the Benelli but my VM shipped with adjusting plates for the stock. With patience I got the gun to fit me very well and that made a big difference to my sight picture. If you are buying for the games, that gun isn't on your shoulder very long. It's slam bam thank you mam and it's all over but the crying. Whatever you buy, check to see if the stock can be adjusted to fit and get some help with that if necessary. It took me a few tries with the VM but eventually I got it right and that red dot FO just slams into view more of less on target.
  22. I'm old and also a relative beginner at the SG game so I'll never push my VMT very hard. So if I take what Mr. MarkCo listed and change out a few parts after a while where things like pins and such have been known to wear or fail, it's been a good choice for me. Before I got mine, I squaded with Benny Hill at a match in Corpus and he seemed to do OK with a VM. I brought my gun back to him for his "package" of upgrades and don't feel like a poor cousin wherever I shoot which is more in Corpus Christi than in Canada. Benny builds and sells quite a few of both guns and has a pretty decent market for the VM's.
  23. The new Legends have the side mounted mag release as well as an improved safety control. The only thing wrong with the latter is its placement. That has been addressed with the P-210 Legend Super Target for a mere $1000 more. The Legend comes in two models one of which has fixed sights while the Target has adjustable rears. I don't think there's an accuracy guarantee but it you shoot "Bullseye" in Europe, the P-210 is still the "gold standard". While mental, when I shoot that gun my confidence level goes up several notches. Put my gun in competent hands and watch out; there will be holes in holes.
