  1. Limcat.com, email limcatguns@aol.com Tell Johnny I sent you. :-) - chip
  2. Very useful. I can quickly see how much more it cost to load major vs minor with the same components....about .01 cent. :-) This does shed light on where we should look to save money (bullets) and where it doesn't make sense to skimp (powder). Much appreciated.
  3. My wife's shooting suffered when she went with a red FO site. She shoots fine with green. I shoot like crap with both. I think it's a very personal choice. One color fits most, but not all.
  4. The TwinCats are on their way home. Meet "HouseCat" and "KittyCat". His-n-hers Limcat 9mm with newly designed custom scope mount and thumb rest.

  6. Maybe a little premature, but we'll be receiving our Limcat twins (his-n-hers) that have a new Limcat C-more mount, and thumb rest. Next week I'll tell you how they work out...but I can tell you that we worked with Johnny to get the scope as low as possible, and to get an ergonomic and functional thumb rest that's adjustable, but not cramped in.
  7. Looks VERY COOL! I'm jealous....still waiting. Hope to haver our TwinCats by Valentine's Day.
  8. What about the current CED cart? $59.00 and a capacity of 200 pounds. In my case it would just be used for two range bags. Thoughts anyone? Others have accurately chimed in...the older CED cart's wheels are the week link. They're the hard rubber tires common to hand trucks. The new CED/DAA trolley has large (I'd guess 9") pneumatic tires that should roll over any gravel, rock, or loose surface with little resistance. 100lbs isn't the final load rating...that's just what they've verified so far. I'm finishing up my video review from SHOT Show, and will post a link here when it's available.
  9. On the eyeglasses part, I've always felt that if you're going to be moving around (as in USPSA) you only want to wear one pair of glasses at a time. I also feel that if you don't have dedicated shooting glasses, you should have a back-up pair just incase something happens to the glasses you're shooting with. I mean it would suck not to be able to see your way driving home. As for the spare parts kit (not to hijack this thread) but for an STI, what specific spares (especially springs) should I pack. I'm waiting on my open build, and this will be my first 1911/2011. At this stage, I probably wouldn't know how to change any of the springs, but I'd like to have them (and whatever else I'd need) incase there was a kind and experienced soul nearby to assist. Finally, to the reloading issue, I'd suggest checking out some of the reloading videos on YouTube. Not so much for instruction, but to see how safe and simple it can be. Once you become hooked on this sport, you'll only regret not having started reloading sooner. A lot of people here will point you toward a Dillon 650 (buy the best, and pay once....and buy it here from Brian) but you can start with a less expensive reloading press and then later dedicate it to a specific load or caliber after you've stepped up to the Dillon press. You can buy a Lee Pro 1000 with single caliber dies for under $200 bucks. You'll also need a scale, calipers, and reloading components. Seriously, the sooner you start reloading, the more you'll save, the more you'll shoot, and more shooting usually means better skills. I've found that just shooting the gun doesn't help much. What helps is preparing a plan for each practice, and setting realistic goals for each session...instead of the guys at the public range that just shoot until they're out of ammo. Shooting less with a plan will do more than just shooting a lot.
  10. I'm thinking the Dawson stick on is the ticket. You get the additional benefit of increased grip.
  11. I"ve been searching for a cart as well. I'd stay away from the Amazon cart because I've heard the individual steering wheels make it difficult to maneuver. The Eckla Gear Cart looks great, but pricey. There's a new cart coming from CED. I saw it at Shot Show. Looks well built, some great options, lightweight, and has pneumatic tires (great for the range). It's supposed to handle at least 100lbs, and priced at $99 bucks. It should be easy to add rifle mounts, has a drop-down shelf for loading magazines, and it even has dual cup holders. I'm going to try one when they're available, or go with a converted jogger.
  12. Currently having a 9mm built by Limcat Customs. Johnny and Julian Lim are great with communication. Whenever I email or call, I get a quick response and efficient information. Since this is my first open gun, I've had to rely on them for a lot of guidance, and they've been really great at explaining the pros and cons of different options. As for timeliness of the build, we're right on schedule, and it may even arrive few days early. From my own business I know there's a triangle we're always fighting against. The three corners are inexpensive, fast, and high quality. Most people know you can't have all 3...and I'm thinking with gun builds, you can only have one.
  13. Got to hangout with Gabby Franco at SHOT Show. She's got a great story, and a lot of passion for the sport. I think she's going to do well in Top Shot...and in her future as a competitor and trainer. I'm going to be cheering her on.
  14. Thanks Jake, I forgot about the Akdal MKA-1919 (AR style Shotgun). I was able to shoot the shotgun at Media Day as well. I wasn't able to hit the thrown clay targets using iron sights...but then I've never shot trap or skeet before. The rifle was extremely reliable. I've shot a few Saigas before, but really prefer the Akdal. For one, it was a lot easier to change magazines (just like an AR-15). What really blew me away was the side charging handle near the front of the rifle...really made it easy to charge without changing your grip much. I've shot 3 Gun using a Benelli and Arredondo Speedloader assist setup. You can make some pretty fast reloads with the Arredondo setup, but if you don't get the angle correct when inserting the tube, it'll slow you down. The magazine system on the Akdal is really nice. Since I've personally never used the XRail, I'm looking forward to seeing if it can beat this setup.
  15. WifEy and I covered SHOT Show...I'll let you know when we post videos and pics. Media Day at the Range - Shot a suppressed S&W 300 Whisper rifle with Jerry Miculek. Awesome rifle and awesome guy. The rifle was very quiet and had very controllable recoil. Maybe not the right gear for 3-Gun, but if you want to shoot 200 - 300 yards, it's a great tool. We also shot the full auto KRISS SR29 in 45 cal. Their system results in almost zero muzzle rise in full auto. They claim 1.8 degrees, but my video says it's possibly less. Also cool (but not for us) was the SlideFire bump-fire stock. Very easy to use, and very controllable after you get comfortable with it (probably 2 or 3 magazines worth). They also showed their new models for the AK 47 and AK 74. A great husband and wife team who are passionate about shooting sports and 2nd Amendment rights. STI - Tom Dillon and his crew were wearing their team shirts. They're dedicated to our sport, and planning new innovations (more as this develops). Great folks at the booth...you can tell it's employee owned by the passion they all have. Double Alpha/ CED - Saul and Charles showed us the prototype for their new trolley. If you have the new (large) DAA backpack, it's a must have....but even if you don't, you'll want one for your bag. Lots of great features, like pneumatic wheels that'll actually roll over range terrain, drink holders, and a really cool foldout shelf that holds your ammo box while you're reloading, and pouches to hold your mags too. Well thought out. If you like the DAA RaceMaster holster and mag pouches, but didn't want to spend that much money, there's a new line called "Race". It's plastic, but the mag pouches felt just as smooth as my aluminum RaceMaster pouches. The new holster is $139, and the pouches are $39. Finally, Charles said to watch for a new software upgrade to the Shot Timer Pro. It's truly revolutionary. I'll have a full review when it's released. So who else was there? What'd you see, what'd you like? - chip
  16. I assembled mine prior to sending them off for tuning with the gun...but I'm sure they'll disassemble then. For one, they have to trim the follower...don't know what else they do. I'm hoping for high capacity (29 to 30) if it can be done without a sacrifice in reliability.
  17. Thanks Skydiver, makes perfect sense. I suspect it's because she came in 2nd D in Limited at the Area 5 match with a 40.1500%: http://www.uspsa.org/uspsa-display-match-results-detail.php?indx=1258&division=Limited&guntype=Pistol There were enough GM's at that match in that Division so the following item kicked in:
  18. Help me out. I just looked at classification for Season 4 competitor Gabby Franco A69761, and with a current and high percentage of 34.58%, but she's listed as a "C" shooter. My wife has a higher current and high percentage, 36.99, but she's still listed as a "D" shooter. What am I missing here?
  19. Ordered 2 RazorCat's (His-n-Hers) last year. Johnny says they'll be delivered at the end of the month. Suddenly January feels like the longest month of the year...kind of like a kid waiting for x-mas to come around.
  20. Buy cheap, pay twice. The best is the least expensive in the long-run. If you want to save money, check the classifieds. Lots of people switching from CR Speed to RaceMaster and Ghost holsters.
  21. Yeah, if I thought about taking the Cmore off ....but what fun would that be? I'd lose my zero. ;-) Thanks for the feedback Kevin and KMCA...it was the LCD stuff that becomes an issue.
  22. When I was considering a Glock for open, all roads kept leading back to Bobby Carver. http://bb-enterprise.biz/ A friend ordered parts here and there, and eventually ended up with a great gun...but after a lot of headaches and sending the gun out for gun-smithing twice. That said, if it were my time, money, and sanity, I'd just havee Bobby Carver build a complete gun for me. Saves time, money, and pulling your hair out.
  23. I remember hearing that I should avoid polarized lenses...are there any lens combos that work better or worse with Oakleys and a C-More? I'm thinking about going with either the Flame or the Positive Red. Even if I had my gun (hoping the build will be finished by end of Jan) taking an open gun to the mall is frowned upon in ILL and Noise. Thanks for any feedback. - chip
  24. No problem reloading the 9mm S&B, maybe other calibers are different. Gearing up for 2012, found a GREAT source for once fired....http://crownbullet.com I bought 6K pieces of their cleaned and polished brass. Looks beautiful inside and out. Hard to tell it's not new brass.
