  1. I practice using my thumb and the "bug" method listed above. At first it was hard, but I try to focus from thumb to a target as fast as I can. I have become used the the correct image and feel like I can transistion focus faster too. I am cross dominant and while practicing with my thumb, I realized my ghost thumb wasn't level with the focused thumb. I was leaning my head in a bit, and wasn't centered like I thought. Nice thing, is you can practice this anytime, anywhere. I got used to the odd looks from my peers...
  2. Not seeing a lot of reviews for the Taylor +8 extensions for 40 in a g35 unsing factory 22 rounders. Best way to go for a 170? How many are you actually getting? They look stout. If I missed the thread from searching, my apologies... My ignorance preceeds me...
  3. So are you saying that by setting the die with an empty case to the top in station 4 and lowering and taking an additional 1/4 turn down is not the proper starting point for 40 per dillion? I am about to start loading 40, so just looking for clarification. I start with an empty case. I then seat the bullet until it gets to the OAL I am looking for. Once I have the correct OAL I lock the seating die in place and advance to the crimp die. I screw the crimp die down until it makes contact with the case mouth. I then screw it down a 1/16 of a turn, crimp and measure the case at the mouth. If more than .418 then I screw the die in a bit further, crimp and remeasure. I keep repeating until I get .418", at that point I lock it down. Thanks papa
  4. barrel is part of Jager open kit...splash... Using moly, so lee or egw? Matters? Need to order dies, so this is good info.
  5. I just upgraded you to "prime" steak... TY for your insight.
  6. question... I have a kkm on order for my 35. If I buy new brass and shoot out of KKM, will that still create a bulge? If it won't, wouldn't that be a simple solution to not worry about the bulge if I can pick up my brass and reload? Obviously, I would need to mark and sort what I pick up. Am I over thinking this? I realize shooting new brass for matches would completely remove the issue, but will a KKM create glock bulge in the first place?

  8. http://www.predatortactical.com/uploads/media/Flashfiles/drawbeepSlider082504.swf just take out the [media] great link that I use all the time.
  9. Go to gun shops and find one that feels good in your hand. Someone likes almost every gun out there... If you can find a gun shop that has a range and rental, that is your best bet to find out what you like. Glock, springfield xd, S&W MP are all fine guns that won't break the bank as well as some entry level 1911's. Figure out what is legal in NY. Buy one and shoot the hell out of it. If you are new to shooting, they will all be more accurate than you are. I am not new and most are still more accurate than I am... Welcome, this is a great place to learn!
  10. That was were I was going. Easy mistake.
  11. Did this happen before you added new parts?
  12. I had to really put some pressure on it. More than I was comfortable with at first, but that was the trick for mine.
  13. Steak dinner, next time I come to the Austin match I'll give you a private lesson in reloading, I like Texas Road House, the 16 oz house cut will do. Those Gator snot bullets are nice, I even shoot them in my Open gun for steel matches (about 140pf), I have shot them at 1400 fps and they worked fine. Your barrel will be cleaner after you shoot them than before. Coco, You have an bunch of data posted here...a lot of those pointed me to bayou and wst (I ended up with wsf but you helped there too). I definetly could buy you that cheap cut of steak. I was going to take Eric to a nice place,,, But instead of a reload lesson, I will just bug the crap out of you about shooting steel while you eat... Either way, I hope to see you at a match soon in SA or Austin. jeremy
  14. oh, and if Eric C. sees this... I owe you a steak dinner....
  15. So, I started seriously looking at getting into reloading about a year ago. Most of the info I seeked, I found on this site. If it wasn't for this site I would still be scratching my head. I took me about two months just to figure out the lingo and the terms. I was thinking it would take me a few years to actually get to the point of actually reloading, but a buddy came across a deal on a 550b and I jumped. For anyone out there on the fence like I was...all the data is in this forum. I asked a few questions, and usually I found even those answers after searching harder. A big "Thank You" to all the years of experience on this forum that help those of us that at one point felt (or feel) extremely intimidated, but can find our footing with the wealth of knowledge here. I finally loaded 4 rounds. These are the most expensive 4 rounds I will ever handle!
  16. I dropped my N320 load for 124gr by .3gr and they seemed a bit on the hot side of the scale but shot very nice. With WST <=4.0gr would be a good start point, then either up or down, based upon an OAL of 1.145, shorter drop it down. WST load data is fairly sparse to non existant, but W231 is very close with WST being just -.1gr on most loads. For comparision my 124gr jacketed bullet load with WST is 4.7gr and produces 134pf at OAL 1.145. thank you sir! when adjusting powder levels, .1 at a time right? Yes, again pay attention to the OAL! Short = less powder. yes sir, loud and clear.... Many searches lead me to your previous posts about wst, thank you for all your insight! I may ping you later
  17. Thank you boxer. No chrono yet, so that is good info!

  19. here is my homemade job to help the op realize he can do it... I did grip reduction (not completely flat but comfortable for me) and removed the finger groves. Feels like brand new gun.
  20. Getting ready to load my first rounds... Can someone give me a starting point for a minor 9 load using bayou 135gr and wst? Shooting out of g17 to start and get my feet wet.
  21. If you want to send it out, Cold Bore Customs has done some nice work imo... I did my own also. Practiced on some extra 870 stocks for 5 min. Really easy, just have to have patience. Matt- Nice job. Did you do grip reduction also? Heat method or fill and grind? Do you find your thumb getting raw with the stippling all the way up the back strap?
  22. I would like to go that route, but that is 2x-5x the price, hence budget... thanks for the reply though! j
  23. Bought a g35 and have been converting to open gun, slowly. It is set for limited just fine, but I can't stop drooling about open. Picked up a dillion so now I can load whatever. I have read a lot about issues with converting a 35 to 9mm. Mags, ejectors and extractors. Seems easy enough so I am not worried about getting it right and don't mind playing with it. Who has gone with the Jager open kit? Even if it wasn't a conversion, I would like to hear your experience with the set up. I know this isn't the best open gun or set up, but it is what I have for now and the kit is within my budget. I have done everything else I could to my 35 currently and it runs fine. Once the bug truely bites, I will upgrade to a 2011 as I am already looking... Anyone running or used the open kit? (not sure if best to post in this forum or open, move if this is in the wrong place)
  24. Interesting, thanks for all the info!
