  1. Has anybody just tried swaping out the trigger group with an 870 group? Just a thought with out thinking...
  2. I started shooting USPSA last year in Limited major using a glock 35 and a serpa holster. This year in January, I got some new gear to help finally get out of "D" class into a upper "C". Me, Serpa holster and classifier don't mix to well.... This summer (2 matches) I started shooting limited 10 to get classified in another division (using the same set up) before starting to shoot production minor with one of my 9mm glocks. I figure the transition from Limited to production would be a lot easier doing it this way. Right now I'm a upper "C" in Limited. After two L10 matches I have one high "C" and a "B" classifier. once I get classified, I'll start shooting Production. Don't know if I'll ever shoot revolver or not but Id like to be at least a "C" or better in every class. But I'm starting to get the 3gun fun bug.... so I might have to spend more time and money on reloading instead.....
  3. Well, being as Im stuck in Purgatory, I was looking for something to gauge by, but I know what yall mean. I know I need to speed up during transitions and with footwork. Im going to try to get somebody to video me so I can see how bad I am from a different view point....
  4. Got my JP recoil system yesterday installed it on my 16" Rock River upper and shot 60 rounds tonight with out any problems.
  5. As I progress into 3gun, Id like to know what are the split times between shots on the same target when all you seasoned veterans shoot two per target? Today I did a little test to see what the difference was between my double taps before and after I installed my new Miculek comp over the stock A2 bird cage. Before I changed it my average time splits were around the .23 second mark. After I changed to the Miculek comp, I was hitting .18 to .20's. Not sure if it makes a difference or not but my set up was, 6 USPSA targets @ 10 yards spread out from left to right about 10 yards apart in three groups of two. all Alpha, Charlie hits.
  6. I just put one in mine along with a JP captured recoil spring and a Miculek compensator. I just shot a couple of mags through it and Im amazed at the difference a trigger and comp combo makes, Its like a totally different rifle now. I don't know how to post a video, but heres a link to my facebook page of the video. 4 shots @ 1.33 seconds from buzzer. Good for me, but I just need more practice and ammo. 3gun match #2 coming next month!! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=3437358070356&set=vb.1762638707&type=2&theater
  7. I did mine this morning on my 1100. Wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. The only hard part was getting that damn roll pin in. I put a chamfer around the end of it to help guide it in but it was tight tight tight! It bent but I just bent it back and went a little slower on the tapping it in. Theres a install video somebody else did in the Multi-gun shotgun forum. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=178485
  8. Has anybody switched to the JP silent recoil spring system in their ARs? I'm wondering if the supplied spring is good to go, or do I need to also order the spring kit that's sold separately? I shot my bosses AR he built with one a few weeks ago (just 3 shots) and I could feel the difference over the regular buffer/spring set up. Its felt smoother and there was no springy twang in the butt stock.
  9. I know this thread is old but since I was looking around here for anything 1100, I thought I would share a tip I do on my 1100's. I polish the crap out of the inside of the recoil spring tube. I simply use a long shaft of a cleaning rod and brush with steel wool and polishing compound, then go with the steel wool and oil to clean it out good until a mirror finish. Buff the outside of the spring if necessary and apply a good gun grease. I also polish the action rails and rail tracks in the receiver. Then buff the magazine tube inside and out also. On my latest 1100 tac4 Im building for 3gun, it made a world of difference in the action. Always change your O-rings also and check those piston rings if your having cycling issues. Im running light targets loads now with no problems.
  10. finally got time to install my DMW EZloader. As you can hear in the background it was raining like a monsoon this morning, so I've been in the shop. Its all fitted and test fired and practiced about a half hour of reloading. Still need to pick up a load2 shell carrier vest before next months 3gun match at Pinetucky in Augusta GA. Since I don't know how to embed a video heres the link to my facebook page of the video. Its just the action closing, no big deal. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=3420713694257&l=1038876283801947456
  11. Finally got mine today, so hopefully I'll have it installed by this weekend when I get some time. I got it from Midway USA in three days and cheaper then Brownell's which was out of stock.
  12. I'm waiting on the big brown truck to deliver my DMW's loader.... I hope to have it running by the next match in Sept. Anybody have any good links to videos on the net on installation steps? I hear the instructions they send isn't all the great.
  13. Once again, Mr. Kelly's "opinion backed up with some experience" shines on us all. Thank you for the articles.
  14. Mr. Patrick, Im new to the 3guns game and your "opinion backed up with some experience" means a lot to us fans. So thank you for sharing it. And if you ever offer any 3-gun or competition training classes around Georgia, Id like to get any info on attending one. Oh and by the way, last week while on vacation, I came across (and bought) the new book, the "Complete Guide To 3-GUN Competition" by Chad Adams. I now recommend this book to anyone interested in 3gun. It was a great read, and I did it in two days, cover to cover.
  15. Are talking about this first port? Looks like the slot is wider torge the top side making it narrower across the top looking down? If Im looking at it right I guess it is sort of gassing it upwards. l l V I'm getting the Miculek comp, cause P Kelly told me too! I'm a fan and he is cool!
  16. Hey yall, I have another 3gun question. Before I order a comp for my AR, I was wondering about top ports on a rifle compensator for 3 gun. I've noticed some of rifle comps don't have top ports but every pistol comp I've ever seen does. So my question is for the rifle in 3gun (shooting fast and keeping it on target), is the recoil more straight back compared to a pistol's flipping up, making the top ports not nesasary if the recoil is being redirected forward from the comp? Does that make since? I was going to order the Jerry Miculek Comp from Brownells for $40 but the Benny Hill with top ports is $90. Is the Benny Hill comp worth that extra $50 Im really thinking about getting the Miculek comp and putting it in the vise at work and cutting some top ports. I don't have time right now, but I will probly just make one sooner or later.
  17. MOE Fixed Carbine Stock Mil-Spec Model MAG480 is the one Im looking at.
  18. Does anybody know if the Magpul MOE fixed carbine stock fit over the six postiton adjustable buffer tube? it looks like it does but it don't say on Magpul web site....at least I haven't seen it if it does. But it looks like it slides over..... Im I just wishful thinking?
  19. Since Im fairly new to AR's and 3gun (one match), any trigger was better then the stock to me. With that said I got a good deal yesterday and traded for a Timney that I installed last night and today I dumped a mag through it to test it out. Way, way, way better and really helped on the double taps. I like it so far and is really like a bolt action now instead of the long notchy military trigger feel. Now I just need one for my R25 .308 I use for hunting. Timney for now, but saving up for the Gold trigger
  20. Ok folks, Last month I shot my first three gun match. Which is also the first time I used an AR in any sort of competition. What I'd like to know is, what do you folks prefer for a dedicated 3gun rifle stock? I have a parts kit gun with a basic cheap M4 adjustable set up but I swapped it with my other AR's Magpul MOE stock for the match. Yall are going to think this is funny as crap but the problem I have with these adjustable stocks is my mustache is getting caught in it and it just seems to be flimsy to me. I deer hunt with a Remington R25 in .308 and I'm think about making one of my ARs into a dedicated 3gun rifle with a fixed stock. Im really liking the skeleton style or maybe even that MOE fixed from Mgapul or Rock River operator I think it is. What do you guys have?? Thanks
  21. Heres my "DIY Tac4 1100" I finally finished last month. Its an older 1100 frame I put together from parts with a 22" barrel with rifle sights. Since Ive taken this picture, its had an action job and everything matte black(blued) finish. And the Remington Shur-shot stock set. Ordering a DMW EZ loader this week..... Shot my very first 3gun match two weeks ago and finished 9th overall. I have never tried to fast load any shotgun or rifle before the match.... Now Im hooked
  22. StealthyBlagga, do you have a picture of your shortend ezloader?
  23. Im new here also and from GA. This place is slap full of good info and people.
  24. Before you go cutting or trimming anything.... Heres what I did a few weeks ago. I polished the inside rails of the receiver real good. Then polished the action bars real good. After polishing everything that moves internally I then removed the action spring. I chucked solid cleaning rod in the drill press and removed the table out the way to make room for the action spring tube, receiver and mag tube. I used a bronze bore brush wraped with a wad of #0000 steel wool and a heavy oil. I then turned the drill press on and slowly inserted it into the action spring tube. I polished the inside of the tube for about 20 minutes, working it up and down to mirror finish. I then change the set up to fit the inside of the magazine tube and did the same thing. I also buff polished the outside surfaces of the long coiled action spring since it would be contacting the inside of the action spring tube. Coated everything with Mili-tec oil and reassembled. I can honestly say the moment I droped the bolt and worked the action I could tell the difference. Its smooth and solid. Saturday I shot my first 3gun with it and it ran with out fail and just as good as all the Benelies and FN's at the match. Only thing I have left is to install the Daves ez loader ramp to help my reloading speed up.
  25. I have used a prick punch to dimple the bottom of the sight dovetail. Just make sure you have the wings of the dovetail supported on the vice jaws not clamped on the sight blade. All you need is a few dimples to tighten it up. And always fit the sights, not the slide's dovetail cut. If there is any doubt on it staying, add the loc-tite.
