  1. It's always good having friends in the right places.
  2. I'm sure they are the same thing, but I only have experience with the Wilson. I belive you could still have a round with too large of a crimp for your gun (within specs but enough to cause FTF jam as mentioned above), but will still drop into the cartridge gauge. The gauge is based off SAAMI max specs, but that doesnt necessarily mean what will work in your gun. This is the important part, finding what your gun likes. It's the last check I do for match loads, and so far as been worth the extra step.
  3. I ran into similar problems with 200gr SWC in my Kimber. 1) I found that crimps .471 or more tended to cause FTF, or 3-point-jams. The larger the crimp, the worst the jams got. Really bad at .472 and .473. At .469-.470 I have no issues. 2) OALs longer than 1.250 tended to hang up in my Kimbers when ejecting a live round (as in showing clear at end of stage). After a lot of testing with dummy rounds at various OALs, I have settled on an OAL of 1.245 for 200gr SWC, and my guns seem to like it as well. A search on this subforum should come up with a few posts of mine on these issues. Basically, you need to experiment and find the right combo that works for your gun. One of the best investments you can make that will help you produce quality reloads is a Wilson cartridge gauge.
  4. Hmmm, doesnt sound right. Maybe the system is overloaded with panic buying after the massive quake we just had? I cant remember it ever taking me that long.
  5. Here's a vid of R Lee Ermey shooting a Glock 18 on his show some time ago. I saw the Top Shots episode last night, and the G34 was flexing very similarily.
  6. Played with my AR with Spikes Tactical 22 conversion today, thought I would put a pic of the target up. About 250 rounds from 25yrds. Ammo was CCI Tactical 22 copper jacketed. The AR is a Tactical Machining carbine with Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4 This thing is just too much fun.
  7. I dont think I would in a match rifle, but if you have a carbine, that might be a better choice. A couple of years ago I picked up Tactical Machining AR carbine pretty cheap, primarily to play around with local 2 gun matches. I put a Leupold Mark AR 1-4 scope on it, and it's pretty accurate. I recently picked up a Spikes Tactical 22 conversion for it, and have been pleasantly suprised with the accuracy of this combo. It's fun as hell, and minute-of-squirrel accurate. What more could one ask for?
  8. Well, this may have been an exercise in futility. I shot 100 rnds crimped at .4720, and had about 8 FTF/3 point jam - had to bump the bottom of the mag to get the round to chamber. Plus, the barrel looked no better. Back to crimping at .470, Might try Competition or Zip powder next....
  9. Yep, had the FO front on my CZ break at a pin match, ever since, I keep a small kit in my range bag.
  10. In my quest to reduce leading and moly fouling in my SS Kimber GMII, I've been playing around with different crimps. My current load is 4.7gr of WST with Precision's 200gr SWC or RNF, crimp at .470 and an OAL of 1.245. I finally decided it was time to slug the barrel, so I took a SWC dropped it in the chamber, and tapped it through with a wooden dowl and rubber dead blow hammer. The dummy rounds crimped at .4720 seemed to be the largest I could go that would still drop into the Wilson cartride gauge cleanly. I want to reduce fouling, but not at the expence of feeding problems. I only loaded up 2 or 3 dummy rounds at each crimp, probably should have loaded more for a better sampling, but I hope this is adequate. The idea here is, a larger crimp should keep from swagging the bullet too much and provide a better seal, hopefully reducing fowling. I loaded up 100 rnds last night with the .4720 crimp and plan on testing them today. Thoughts/suggestions? Bullet: .4515 Bore: .4500 (best as I can determine) Crimp Bullet dia ----- ---------- .4705 .4505 .4710 .4505 .4720 .4510
  11. Yeah, I knew the XDm is ESP, my brain was saying ESP but my fingers were typing SSP. Thanks for the confirmation.
  12. Searches didnt turn up an answer for me. Can a S&W M&P Pro 9mm be used in both IDPA SSP and USPSA Production? I have guns that fit in one or the other but not both, and would like simplify things some if I can. EDIT: I see where it's on the list of USPSA production pistols, just not sure about IDPA. I know my XDm was SSP, so I thought I would make sure.
  13. My son and I just started SS this year. His is a bone stock Kimber Custom Classic Target, and mine is a Gold Match II. On the GMII, I put a S&A magwell and arched MSH, and have a Dawson FO front sight coming this week. These are the only two mods I've done, besides tuning the extractor and replacing the stock recoil spring. I would have won SS at the last match if I didnt have a Mike on the classifier stage - of all stages. RE SWC, you may need to do some tweaking of your loads and/or you gun to make them shoot reliably. I've been using Precision 200gr SWC and their RNF, and they run pretty good.
  14. Thanks, but I am well aware of their "disclaimer", having loading Berrys for a couple of years now for 380, 9mm, and 45ACP. My question is specifically for a suggested OAL for their 200gr FP bullet in 45ACP.
  15. (Title supposed to be 45ACP) I need to load some Berrys up for a local indoor IDPA classifier. I got some Berrys cause the range doesnt allow cast bullets, and didnt want any hassles with my Precision bullets. I havent loaded this particular bullet before, and was wondering what the general recommendation for an OAL was. They will be run in my Kimber Gold Match II. I usually load my Precision 200gr RNF with 5.4gr of W231 at 1.220. I know this load is a little light of major PF, but it should work for this match. I loaded a few at 1.200, all rounds were crimped at .469 and run through a case gauge. They seemed to chamber fine and manually ejected ok, but looked a little long. The Berry's RNF bullet is a little shorter than the Precision, probably due to the concave base of the Precision.
  16. RCBS Loadmaster 1500 scale. Since I've had it, the RCBS beam scale hasnt been out of the cabinet.
  17. I really think it is the powder at this time. My reloading process is (I believe) not the issue:I ensure there is ample bell/flare, I use seperate taper and crimp dies, I make sure there is not too much crimp so the bullet is not deformed, and there are no molly shavings on the shell plate. I've pulled a few bullets to make sure the molly has not been cut. Also, picking up spent shells using the W231 powder, they are incredibly hot, more so that with WST powder. This seemingly difference in heat I hope is also an indicator.
  18. Welcome, from another NOVAer. I sent you a PM about a match this saturday. There are also matches in Fredericksburg and in W. Va. The uspsa site will have links. Suggest you get on each site's mailing list so that you will get registration notices.
  19. When I upgraded PCs at home, they "gave" me an Epson printer. It does a very nice job, it also will scan and copy, which has turned out extremely useful - I hestiated installing the printer as I "knew" I wouldnt need those features, boy was I wrong! I can provide the exact model number tonight if the OP wishes.
  20. Here's a pic of my Target when I brought her home from the gun show some time ago. I need to get a better pic. Love this gun, though I admit I've been spending too much time shooting SS lately. Need to get her back out on the range again.

    unbuntu

I picked up a netbook a few weeks ago as I needed it for a trip. I thought I would try Ubuntu on it, and burned a boot thumb drive. Install was very easy. It is a little quirky, or different, takes some getting used to. For some reason, Firefox just wont launch. Have not had the time to play with it more. I was curious to see if it would be any faster than the Win7 Starter that came on it. I just need it for basic web browsing, etc.
  22. Yep, great bullets, decent prices. Shipping is not that quick, and if you have questions, you'll have to call, though they've always been responsive. So if you order from them, make sure you plan ahead.
  23. I have no doubt that is probably true!! It's a result of working in IT I guess, I need to try and have repeatable results, and when I cant, it makes me nutz. Thanks for the suggestion on the aftec, I'll have to consider it.
