  1. Thought I would double check the crimp I've been using for Precison Bullets 200gr SWC, as I get what appears to be a fair amount of molly in the barrel after a match. I've been crimping .4695 to .470. I pulled a couple of bullets and the molly wasnt sheared off, and I usually have a pretty good bell on the case. Attached is a sample pic.
  2. 1.265 is too long for my GM, the round hangs up on the barrel hood when manually cycling the slide to show clear. I've loaded up a few rounds at the following OALs, will see how they work this weekend. Hopefully I can find the sweet spot. If not, then RNFP will be my go-to bullet for the GM. 1.240 1.235 1.230 1.225 1.220 Thanks for the suggestions.
  3. I thought I had a good load for my Kimber Gold Match II; Precision moly 200gr SWC, 5.4gr W231, OAL 1.245, crimp .4690 with mixed headstamp brass (except no R-P brass). This load worked great at the range with static targets, but under the stresses of a match, my Kimber became a jam-o-matic today at a match. Attached pic shows the type of jam. The round seems to get jammed going into the chamber at an angle. I absolutely know it's the ammo, because the last two stages today I used my son's ammo, which is basically the same load but with Precision's 200gr FPRN (OAL of 1.235 IIR). My GMII worked flawlessly. I'm using new Wilson ETM mags and my son was using new Wilson 47D mags. My search turned up this post. Interestingly, a post from superdude included the following: AriM had some great pics showing the areas mentioned above. My son shoots a Kimber Custom Classic Target, and his seems to run through the SWC just fine, so I pull the two appart and started comparing things. The throat of the two is pretty much the same - same angle and well polished, but I did notice the hood on his is beveled but is not on my GM. How important is this bevel to the feed problem? I may also polish the upper inside of the chamber as recommended. If the OAL is much longer than 1.25 it seems the SWC hang up on the barrel hood when manually ejected (as in when showing clear), but I may try changing OAL a little. I have a case of the SWC sitting under my loading bench, so I would like to get these to work. But in case I cant, I did order a case of the FPRN - because they do seem to work very well in my GMII, and I'll relegate the SWC to static target practice. Any additional suggestions would be appreciated.
  4. I played it safe and ordered a replacement from Kimber's website. I was looking at other site mfgrs because I feared Kimber wouldnt have them in stock, or one of the replacement sights might be a little stronger/better. Kimber already shows it with a tracking number, so hopefully it will arrive soon.
  5. The rear sight on my GMII broke last night during the first stage of an IDPA match. ARGH The windage screw keeping the blade on just sheared off. I thought I would check the brain trust here to make sure this Dawson Precision sight is the correct replacement. It calls for a .180 front, but I believe mine is about .174 EDIT: I also like the looks of the Ed Brown sight, but not sure how much machineing or fitting would be needed??
  6. As mentioned, you really need to see your doc/back specialist. I suffered from lower back pain, or more of a soreness, for a few years. I saw a few chiros, didnt feel like they helped, and sometimes hurt more. I finally decided to see our doc and find out exactly what was going ont. After X-Rays and MRIs, he confirmed I had a bulging disk between L4 and L5, as well as Degenerative Disk Disease (narrowing of the cushion membrane between the vertabrae disks) in all my lumbar disks. This pretty much made me retire from riding horses, which I had done for over 20 years. The Physical Therapy outfit my doc recommended me to hurt me more than helped me, so I quit going to them. I found another PT outfit that came highly regarded (www.thejacksonclinics.com), and they were great!! They focused on mostly European style stretches. I still do one or two particular stretches every morning, or whenever I overexert myself and the lower back tightens up. Bottom line, you need to see your doc to find out exactly what is wrong, and go from there.

I use the Hoppes #9 with a tooth brush to scrub everything I can get to, then use spray Rem Oil to wash all the crud out, followed by blowing it all out with compressed air (from compressor, not canned air). This works quite well on my CZs, 1911s, etc.
  8. Welcome, from another N. Va newb. Attended my first match at Fredericksburg, had a blast!! See you at an area match.
  9. I had the exact problem getting my reloads to feed in my Kimber Gold Match II. They would hang up with fresh full mag and slide drop on the first round, using brand new Wilson ETM mags. For me, the fix has been to reduce the crimp to .4690 I had been crimping around .470 - .471, or as low as my Hornady seat/crimp die could get. I had to get an RCBS taper crimp die and seperate the seating and crimping into seperate stages to be able to get the crimp I want.
  10. Anyone try this? Seemed like it might be a good idea to try and blast some of the dirt and dust out of mags between stages.
  11. I have the same exact cart, only green, & Love it - perfect for hauling everything around. Having gone to my first match this weekend with my son, we really needed a cart. After seeing several of these same carts, and how handy they are, I picked one up this week at Costco. I think it was $59. Dick's Sporting Goods also carries them. This will be my son's Father's Day gift to me.
  12. Email send asking for product pricing. Thanks
  13. I'm seeing leading, not long streaks. I usually use a barrel mop with Hoppes on it, let the barrel soak for a few min, then take a bore brush with strip from copper Chore Boy pad wrapped around it. 20 passes through the barrel, patches with Hoppes on them, more Hoppes on a bore mop, more sitting, more passes with the bore brush, etc. Generally takes about 20 min just to get the barrel clean. Small lead specs and a lot of gunk. I dont have long streaks of lead, nor do I have much if any towards the muzzle. Ok, now this is making sense. The bullets I have are BHN18, which obviously are too hard for W231. Thanks
  14. My 16yr old son and I went to our first USPSA match this weekend at the Fredericksburg Rod and Gun Club (Fredericksburg, Va). I've shot IDPA for a few years, but this was my son's first match, other than one bowling pin match a couple of months ago. The folks on our squad were very friendly and helpful, as were the ROs. It was a full course, with 7 stages. My son had several Alphas, and did extremely well. I managed to clear Stage 5 with all Alphas (IIRC 12-14 targets), so I'm pretty stoked about that !! Thanks again to Seth and everyone else envolved, it was a great day. Yep, we're hooked.
  15. Ok, I'm about to start pulling my hair out now. I have the flat stem in the seating die, everything is clean - no residue in the die, good and tight, etc, and I'm trying for 1.25" and getting OALs from 1.2495 to 1.2610 !! I'm sure this probably is not enough of a variance to worry too much about, I guess my OCD is starting to kick in. I did measure several bullets for their length, and there was a variance, but I didnt note what they were (it's been that kind of day!). Ah well, time for an adult beverage.
  16. No, it hasnt caused any probloms - yet. But this is my first stab at loading lead, and I want to try and prevent any issues before they start. So far, no failures of any kind (though I havent run a LOT of lead rounds through it yet), ands it's only cosmetic (besides the smoke <cough> ), and the PITA to get the barrel cleaned.
  17. Hmmmm, very good point. I'll check a few tonight. Thanks!!
  18. That's interesting. The IDP#1 bullets from MB say they are intended for major power factor, so that's the reason I got them. I'll try some of their Bullseye #1 next (BHN 12), and see how they fare. Thanks
  19. The bullets are .452, so unless the barrel on my Kimber is .453 or more, they shouldnt be undersized. No FCD, Hornady seat/crimp die to seat only and a Redding taper crimp die. Seating and crimping at same time? I just switched to seperate dies, so that I could get a tighter taper crimp on Berry's 200gr SWC. Besides, I had read it's always better to seperate the two functions, especially lead. Is this not correct? Is .469 too much of a crimp for these bullets?
  20. I'm trying out lead bullets for the first time. I got some Missouri Bullets, 200gr SWC IDP#1 BHN 18 bullets. I have them loaded at 5.4 gr of W231 with OAL of 1.25 and crimp of .469. They shoot very well in my Kimber Gold Match II, but with some leading of the barrel about 1/2" beyond the chamber. I've tried these at 5.0gr and 5.7gr of W231, and really like the 5.4gr load. Is there something I can do differently to reduce the leading? TIA
  21. Just thought I would follow up for the OP. I tested some MB 200gr LSWC IDP #1 today, with 5.4gr of W231 at 1.25 COAL. The load fed and ran just fine, though I had some leading. I think this will be my go-to load for these bullets.
  22. Very timely post, as I just got my first Missouri Bullets, #1 IDP 200gr SWC 18BHN. I normally shoot Berry's 200gr SWC, but thought I would give the MB bullets a try. I ran the first batch at 5.7gr of W231 with OAL of 1.25 and crimp of .469. They fed and shot well, was a little smokey and had a little leading in the first 1/2" or so of the barrel. Today I tried 5.0gr of W231 and OAL of 1.265 (at recommendation from another board), had more leading than before, and the rounds would not feed into the mag as the OAL was too long (Wilson ETM mag, Kimber Gold Match II). Attached is a pic from today's test, approx 45rnds from 7 yrds. I'll probably try 5.4 or 5.5gr of W231 next, and stick with OAL of 1.25.
  23. The stem for RN bullets. I thought about flipping it around, but didnt recall seeing anything in the instructions. Duh - that would do it. Will flip it around and see how the next batch goes. Thanks
  24. Just got some Missouri SWC, IDPA #1, 200gr SWC bullets, and got some inconsistent OALs. This is my first time loading lead bullets, I usually use Berry's plated. I'm loading on a LNL, with Hornady crimp/seating die to only seat the bullet and a Redding taper crimp die to crimp at .469. I'm trying for an OAL of 1.250, some rounds come out with over 1.26 some around 1.24, a lot more inconsistent than I'm used to seeing. I'm not short-stroking the press, and the seating die is clean/no obstructions. Suggestions?
