  2. September is too far away for me to know... I'll find out in the summer!

  4. What is a coaster tie? And what I have DESPERATELY been waiting for to replace my coaster tie.
  5. where did everybody get their cat tails for the mtac? I'm looking to buy one...thanks!
  6. And then when will it be open to the public or first timers?
  7. how to get on the email list to know when the applications are available?
  8. I dont have the magazine... is it approved in both calibers? I'm planning to use the 40 in production (and just load my ammo to minor) I like the bigger holes, and can share all the shells with my limited gun which is also a 40
  9. awesome. I have the XDM 4" something model (the predecessor) and was not impressed at all with the accuracy. I purchased a storm lake barrel but it still shoots the same. I love everything else about it, so i will be buying the 5.25" model and putting in a powder river drop in trigger kit
  10. What does YMMV mean? The CajunGunworks kit looks awesome, i think thats what i need. I cant be bothered with the HS8500 though because I will be shooting this internationally where Federal primer is not always readily available (usually its CCI or Winchester)
  11. Why is it not legal for USPSA? I thought any type of trigger work is OK for Production division? I WILL bring it there...
  12. Wolf +10% springs, flawless
  13. I use the Wolf +10% springs in my 40, and I can get 21 rounds in it with the dawson extended basepad and dawson follower

    Reliablity?

Did you end up buying the Para? I love my Para, but if you are not experienced in 1911 work, or dont want to spend time/money on a gunsmith, then i would say to go with something else. I had an old P14-45 which I took the frame of, then put in a Caspian slide and a 40 bull barrel. i also built it up to make it a long dust cover (ala STI) and put in a tungsten guide rod. it is heavy, but has almost zero recoil, which i love. i can run 175PF and it feels like 160 in a regular 1911. My trigger is a koenig, i love it, but I am thinking of getting an STI because they have a really nice contingency program where I could have won several hundred if not a thousand dollars already, had I been shooting an STI the past year. Anyway, my main beef with para is the mags. You really have to tune it to get it working flawlessly. Its best friends are my Dremel and sandpaper. I can fit 21 rounds, changeable, with the dawson extended basepad, wolf springs and a dawson follower. With my ipsc legal basepads ("fit in the box") i can fit 19 changeable, which is 1 or 2 more than most STI folks. I also have an XDM with a powder river drop in trigger kit - works fantastic for a cheap gun, it runs well out of the box but you still have to put in the drop in trigger to be competetive. The new XDM 5.25" is awesome, i would get that in 40 and run production minor on it, it makes big holes, easy to see.
  15. Nice - how are the new ones better than the old ones? How do I know i'm buying a new style vs an old style? The old ones, i had to file things here and there to make it drop properly, feed rounds properly, etc. I tried to buy mec-gar mags for my para, and it worked great right out of the box, the only problem was it fit 1 or 2 less with the same spring, follower, and basepad than the one on my para body (19 rds, changeable with IPSC legal basepad) . I'm hoping to get some decent para mags where i dont have to use a dremel, because it shaves off the chrome and then gets rust. but thats the only way i can get it to drop easily (on some), then i have to widen the lips of others with pliers to make it feed easily, then shave the followers a bit on the ends too.
  16. I have a shadow from the CZ Custom shop, its my first CZ so I dont know if its normal or not, but it has an unusually long travel, would like to shorten it. I shot another guy's Shadow and it was super short, he said a gunsmith monkeyed around with it. I took it to the same gunsmith and he said my trigger was fine. He probably didnt have time to take a look, but its definitely longer than I'm comfortable with
  17. Congrats everyone, what a great match and an awesome way to enter the 3gun world. Does anyone have the Name and fax# of the FFL guy? He gave me his card but it seems to have fallen out of my pocket...he wrote his fax# on it, i have to fax my FFL info to him to get the gun i won... please PM me if you have this info thanks!
  18. Hi Guys, just an update to close the thread... JA replied that it is NOT LEGAL for me to use a 6" barrel with 5" slide configuration. Although each part separately is legal, when you combine it, it becomes "prototypish" because there is currently no gun configured this way that has come out of the factory in quantities of 500+ and for which NROI has approved the design of. To make my setup legal, he said I'd have to change my 6" to a 5" barrel. Having the long dust cover is not an issue, as there are 500+ guns with 5" barrel and 5" slide and long dust cover.
  19. ok i'll email John.... thanks. I agree with Skydiver... some people add heavy magwells, full length and tungsten guiderods, etc to add weight and reduce recoil. its not like a full length dust cover is something new. i'm not attaching an electromagnetic recoil stabilizing super jet fighter gyroscopic dampened prototype on my firearm.. this is just my husband's cheapskate attempt to make it look like an STI i'll update this thread if JA replies to my email...
  20. I guess i'll just ask the RM before using it. by the way, who is "JA"?
  21. thanks Joe. its not a prototype frame, its a standard Para frame available to the general public- my husband tig-welded it to make it have a long dust cover. Nothing in the book says you can't add stuff to the frame? What about those gunsmiths that put holes in the slides to make it lighter - they dont do 500 of those but its legal, right?
  22. I think his original 14-45 was a 6". He didn't say, but that's what it sounds like. He replace the 6" slide with a 5" slide. Yes - the original was a 45 caliber 6" (this is para ord's LS version) I changed it to a 40 caliber 6" (same length as factory - different caliber)
