  1. Thankful that my diabetes got a little better so that I can eat a few things that make life worth living like mashed potatoes and corn. Don't know why it got so out of control for about three months, don't know why it got better recemtly but I can eat a little of the good stuff without getting sick now so I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth.
  2. Not only is Tri correct, ponder this: if it was otherwise where the sear nose was NOT riding the hammer as the slide cycled, you would have a full auto pistol. The sear nose has to catch the hammer at the full cock notch coming forward to cock the gun for the next shot. Thumb cocking and slide cocking are the same as far as the hammer and sear know. "a few friends have said to me that that damages the trigger mechanism" There is a legitimate debate on the possible harm of loading a 1911 from lockback by letting the slide drop with finger OFF trigger, as this is contrary to gun operation. During shooting, each time the gun cycles after firing, your finger is on the trigger (and the disconnector is pushed below the sear) as the slide feeds up a round. If your finger is off the trigger, the trigger is connected to the sear (or it will be when the slide comes forward far enough to load a round). As you drop the slide, there is a small (but real) possibility of an AD due to inertia trip of the sear by the trigger's inertia as the slide collides with the frame coming forward. The "love tap" from the trigger at that point may not cause an AD, but does slightly separate the sear face and hammer face so each slide drop allows those two surfaces to bounce off each opther which can chip them over time. That said, slide dropping with trigger held back does violate the basic safety rules and will get you booted by most RO's. Mr Plaxco recommended loading from slide lockback by manually pulling the hammer downward with one thumb and dropping the slide release with the other thumb which will protect the trigger parts and not require the finger on trigger method.
  3. No, actually they were small, flat and droopy. (seem them). She definitely went overboard on the new puppies. Don't know why they always go for the monster size when a little larger and higher up would be perfect.
  4. "Nothing wrong with a little shooting, as long as the right people get shot." Dirty Harry Callahan
  5. They think getting married means that they no longer have to look for sex Actually, being married DOES mean we no longer look for sex. We get so thoroughly discouraged we just stop looking........
  6. Come on... you ask that with a straight face? The guy at the wedding stands next to his wife in front of a priest... big smile on his face as he imagines his favorite form of sex and thinks: "For the rest of my life.... I will have one whenever I want!" Woman standing next to him is thinking about performing that very same sex act and is thinking: "Thank God... for the rest of my life I'll never have to do THAT again!"
  7. "instead of arguing about the schedule, why don't you just tell me the date you promised the customer and then I will know when the project will be officially late." AHHHHHH.... I see that you used the ATAMO tasking model when you made up the schedule for this project. ATAMO: And Then A Miracle Occurs Explain to me again why I should care, only this time include more money.
  8. Only thing I can think of is "Mag Slick" type products which spray on wet and evaporate to leave a dry film. The makers of FP-10 claim you can rub it on and wipe it dry and it leaves a magical layer of film protection at the molecular level. But, I ain't trading my cow for those magic beans.
  9. She has always had a very positive effect on the happiness of my gun.
  10. Should be exactly the same as in the OFF mode. They use a calibrated "head" with mikes built in. When the electronics are ON, they do nothing to reduce loud noises traveling through the headphones. They do "clip" the sound level being produced by the internal speaker to a safe level (about 85 dBA if the ads are true). However, that has ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT on the loud sound wave that comes into your ears because much of it goes through the headphones themselves and the lower frequency components are conducted through the bones of your face and skull.
  11. Because they are only about 20 dB. That means if you light off a .357 magnum with a peak muzzle wave of about 165 - 170 dBA, you ears are getting upwards of about 145 to 150 dBA. That is probably about 100 times as much energy as you would get standing in front of the speakers at a rock concert. Can you say: HUH?
  12. I always had the hots for Tara Reid. She is beautiful and has a sultry voice that reminds me of Lauren Bacall. Tara gave the world a show last week when her wardrobe malfunctioned and one of her sweater puppies came out to say hello, and I didn't even have to pay a cover charge for the show. This is what makes this country great. http://www.gawker.com/topic/tara-reids-bre...-out-025063.php
  13. You are correct. I was in that group. The bummer is I was incorrectly thinking the fatigue and shakes was from that so I ate carbs to fix it (like throwing gasoline on the fire). I feel way better if I eat mostly lean proteins like chicken, turkey, lean beef and pork, and vegetables.
  14. That ain't good but it is WAYYYY better than diabetes. The high sugar levels of diabetes destroy all your blood vessels leading to loss of vision, feet and hands amputated, kidneys fail (they have tiny blood vessels). I'd trade for hypoglycemia. BY THE WAY.... some of you who think you have hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) are actually diabetic. Insulin resistant diabetes (what 99% of us old farts develop if we get diabetic) degrades the way your cells can use the glucose. Insulin is what catalyzes the process so the cell can break down the glucose. As cells get resistant, the cells are able to burn less of it and glucose levels rise. The new drugs like glucophage specifically target helping the cells burn glucose. So, we get the worst of both: high glucose levels destroying our body, but fatigue, weakness and shakes because our cells are not able to use the glucose for energy as well as they should. I used to eat some carbs before shooting to prevent "the shakes" I would get and it never worked. And BTW: high glucose levels give you the shakes and makes you feel "amped up" like too much caffeine does.
  15. Buy yourself a blood machine. less than $20. Everybody should have one because most idiots like me don't know until they feel sick which means it has been running high for years by then.
  16. Totally sucks. I have been borderline diabetic for some years, and treated it with diet (cut back on sugar and carbs). haven't had a potato in the house for at least 12 months, no rice, no pasta, little bread. An Irishman giving up potatoes is like a junkie trying to kick heroin. Anyway, been getting really bad in the last couple of months. The worst symptom is peeing every hour because you can't get any sleep that way. So I buy one of those electronic blood glucose checking machines (normal glucose is under about 140). Fist day I rang up a 175, really cut out all carbs and just ate protein and vegetables and got it down to about 125 for a few days. Yesterday I ate right except had one piece of candy left over from halloween. At 9PM I rang up a 275 reading! If that thing was pinball machine, I would have ten free games by now with my scores.
  17. Local police overrule the constitution They are just taking their cue from the administration in Washington. The constitution has been in the bottom of Ashcrofts parakeet cage for going on four years now.
  18. Me too. Pinnacle make a "double stack" grip adapter for a single stack gun that increases the grip size. I really like the wider grip.
  19. That will reduce body motion at a price: your legs fatigue a lot faster. If you move your center of mass forward. you remain upright because your calf muscles (and hamstrings) have tension applied to the foot and toes. You will feel the pressure shift to the toes as you unbalance your stance forward. It is the stance I see most pros using so I guess their legs are up to it.
  20. I thought they drowned all the cross dominant kids at birth. Seriously, dominance won't change but she might be able to cross train if the eye isn't heavily dominant. I tried to cross train dominance to my left eye because it sees a lot better and gave up. Right eye just won't let go of the steering wheel.
  21. Beautiful blonde goes to Home Depot and applies for a job as a sales clerk. The manager says she has to pass the test on hardware. He hands her a ten penny nail and asks her what it is: She stares at it for a while and gives up. "It's a nail." He said. "Darn... I should have known that." she said. So, he hands her a wood screw and asks her what it is. She stares at it and gives up. "It's a screw." he said. "Darn... I should have known that." she said. Then he hands her a carriage bolt and asks her what it is. She gives up. "It's a bolt." he says. "Wait a minute!" she says. "That's totally unfair. How could I be expected to know that. I've never been bolted."
  22. Extractors that lose tension are a result of being made from the wrong material and/or heat treated wrong. The 1911 extractor was designed to be made from spring steel, most today are not. The one on my Para is CAST (not MIM) steel and not at all "springy". I had to re-tension it twice after installation within the first few hundred rounds. I'm sure that scenario will repeat until I chuck it. That is because steel that is too hard will "take a set" on the bend and lose it's tension. The extractor that came on my STI ran over 10,000 rounds before needing to be re-tensioned.
  23. I have an open gun built on a 92. I just did it for fun. I put an OKO red dot on it and added an aftermarket barrel. I also installed a SAO trigger (after market) and dialed the trigger down to 2#. I think a 1911 is a better platform but I had a 92 that didn't get out much so I souped it up for speed shooting league.
  24. Yes. Figure out why it broke. A properly fitted 1911 doesn't stress the link sufficiently to break it, but one that is not fitted right sure will.
