  1. What has everyone been using to cut the buttstock down and how much can you take off safely (I would like to take off about 2")? Thinking maybe a band saw ???

I used a 10" Dewalt miter saw set at 90 deg. It worked great. The hard part is grinding the stock pad to go up inside the stock. I have switched to the Kickeez pad and not only is it easier to work with and easier on the shoulder, but it also doesn't have to fit up inside the stock. You will have to drill an extra hole in the kickeez pad though which is pretty easy when you drill it when it's frozen.

You will also have to drill the holes deeper in the buttstock. You shouldn't have any trouble cutting 1.5".

  2. Update: I previously shared that I had a several FTE's at Task Force Dagger. When I mentioned adding a 13oz weight, you guys suggested that the weight was the issue. Well, you were correct. I removed the weight and added the KickEzz magnum recoil pad and the gun ran 100% at a match yesterday with the exact same ammo that I used at TFD. I had to cut down the buttstock a little more when I added the KickEzz pad to give me a ~13 3/4" LOP. I'm loving this gun and MOA parts.

  3. I just ordered the Kick-ezz "magnum" grind to fit pad. It is just a little bit thicker that then standard. Is there any reason to not go with the magnum pad?

I don't know if it will fit but the Magnum sounds good! The ladies always smile when the see a magnum in your range bag too. ;)
I plan to make it fit. Will post photos.......of the recoil pad, that is. :)
  4. I just put a caliper to my chuckof stock I cut off and it is 5.000 inches tall and I couldnt get a good width measurement since I only cut off 1/4 inch. But it will be close to the kick eez KZ-102. After cutting off a 1/4 inch it measures 4.915 tall and 1.565 wide.

Im kind of thinking that it would be safer to get a bigger pad than what we need. This would allow more room to get the holes to align with the butt stock. Keep in mind that the Stoeger holes are 3.718 appart and the Kick eez holes are 3.125 (according to thier website).
  5. I'm loving this idea Tom. Please keep us posted.

The weight in my buttstock will come out today. I shot ~120 rounds or 3dram and 1200fps slugs flawlessly through this gun prior to adding the 13oz buttstock weight. When I added the weight I enjoyed the reduced recoil, but I didn't realize that the weight would cause an issue. At the TFD match, I had 2-3 FTE out of 143 rounds of 3dram Fed shells. I also shot 37 Rem 1200fps slugs with about 1 FTE/stage(8 stages with slugs).

I am also now interested in a softer recoil pad. Sounds like the Kickezz is a popular choice. Which one do you guys recommend: All purpose, Special Slotted, Sporting Clays, "Trap?

I'm still looking. I just ordered a medium slip-over pad from kick eez.

Maybe Patrick will chime in and let us know. I also just noticed that there are medium and large sizes of each style. I just called Recoil-pads.com and left a message. Maybe they will call me back and let me know.

  7. Thanks for the clarification Tom. My logic was backwards about lightening the bolt. I look forward hearing about the spring mod.

I didi all but detail strip the bolt last night. Lubed it up well and shot it today with similar results. It ran great for the most part but I still suspect the 1200fps slugs are a little light. I may consider lightening the bolts once it's something I can do myself. Tom, can you give me a little advice? Photos?

Wouldn't lightening the bolt make it cycle light loads worse? How looseare you holding the gun and have you added a softer recoil pad? Both seem to help my gun cycle. If I barely hold the gun it will cycle the 1150 fps Fiocchi slugs, but I don't think I'd use them in a match.
I beleive im holding the gun pretty firm against my shoulder. I have also added 13oz in tbe buttstock. Recoil pad is stock but rounded off on the corners.

  9. I'm at TFD and it has literally rained all day long(still having a blast). However, we s

hot 4 stages today and I had a several FTEs with the 1200fps slugs and also a few with the 1 1/8 3 dram shells. A few times the shell would catch in the ejection port, other times I would have to cycle the bolt to remedy the problem. I suspect that it has something to do with the gun getting soaked and affecting the cycling just enough to cause a problem. I also saw Benellis and Mossys acting up a few times?

    What do you think?

  10. I just read over the rules one more time for Tactical class.... so we "can't" have 45 degree offset iron sights on our AR it looks like... am I reading that correctly....only 1 optic?? just need to know if I need to take them off :)

It says "no more than one optical sight". I am pretty certain that offset irons is fine. An offset optic combined with a primary optic is not allowed in Tac Optics.

  11. I am enjoying seeing all of the extreme loading port work. Thanks for sharing.

I hate to change the subject, but I had my first M3000 malfunction yesterday. I ran a box of Estate 1 1/8oz 3dram shells with no issues. But I also ran some Rem 1200fps slugs and one of them didn't quite exit the loading port. I have shot about 25 rounds of these slugs with no issues. I now have just over 150 rounds through the gun. I am all geared up for TFD(Fed 1 1/8oz 3dram bird and Rem 1200fps slugs) and don't plan to change anything, but I will try to be prepared to clear the a FTE if needed. As a precaution, I plan to leave the bolt locked back all week too. I had already cleared the grease and slicked up the mag tube last month. I am still VERY pleased with the M3000.

Those slugs must be right on the edge of having enough energy to fully cycle the gun. My favorite slugs the Fiocchi 1150 fps 1oz do that occasionally in my M2 and every time in the M3k.

I suspect that you are correct. Hopefully it will only get better as I put more rounds through the gun.

  13. I have a little over 120 rounds of nothing but 1 1/8oz 3dram shells and 1200fps slugs through mine with no issues. I did clean off the grease from the mag tube, sand it with 400 or 600 grit and apply some gun oil. However, the mag tube on mine was actually pretty smooth and the action was very smooth right out of the box.
