  1. I've only been shooting this game for a little over a year and haven't grasped all of the rules for setting things up. Our club is planning an RO class this spring which I plan to take but I knew that I could count on the people here to help me out until then. I made a few changes based on LPatterson's and Skydiver's comments.I added the hammer down for the start. Would it be better to take all of that out and just say according to rule 8.1? My plan is to leave the drop turners available after they have been activated but to have them covered before. I also know that I will need to watch where the second arrays on each side are set to prevent being able to engage them from the same place as the plate rack and star. I may need to put in a baricade to hide them. I may need to put in a couple more walls to make sure the plate rack and star cannot be engaged any place except from the front ends but I will figure that out when it is put up.@ Shadowrider, we have a couple people who shoot those funny looking guns with the big wheel on them so they were in mind as I put this together. My daughter, who shoots a Ruger SR9 loaded to 17 rounds looked at the stage a told me I was a dick for making it too easy for the revolvers but to hard for her with 5 17 round mags. My wife and I usually shoot in L-10 or production with our XDM 9s or 45s. I have been kicking the idea of picking up a Range Officer and playing in Single Stack. Where\'s my ammo.doc
  2. I know that the score sheets are always made with only one line for steel and that seems to work fine if you can see all the steel from any location. I thought that having the steel scored by array instead of in total may speed up resetting the stage as the squad could start resetting from which ever side the RO started scoring from instead of waiting for them to go all the way through the course to call the total number of steel hit. That would be an easy change to make if need be. The range we shoot at is one bay, around 50-60 yards wide and we usually set up two stages at a time. One squad will shoot one stage then the other squad will shoot the other one then both squads will go downrange to score and reset at the same time. We could look at setting up a second long narrow stage or maybe two shorter stages for the second squad to shoot along with this one so as to not have one squad always waiting for the other to get reset. The other option is to take it to the other club I shoot at where we shoot a USPSA Mini match after a 4 stage steel match. We have one stage which is a classifer and the other stage is usually a long field course each set up in their own bays. There are usually 15-20 shooters there and 6-8 will start the field course while the others start the classifer. As people finish the classifer they head to the field course and the first ones on the field course go to the classifer when enough people have rotated over to keep it moving. The only problem with going to the second place is there is no plate rack but subbing in plates would not be a problem.
  3. Could you look this stage over and give any suggestions on it. This is one of my first attempts at stage design so if it is beyond help fell free to let me know. I have 4-5 months to get it to something that can be used because we won't be able to shoot outdoors before April. I need to send a thanks to gino_aki for the stage design files from his Lazy Man's match thread. The no-shoot targets on the right side will be covering drop turners to prevent shooting them before activating them. Placement and how many will be determined when it is set up. The Star and Plate rack will be angled so that you need to be up range of them to prevent breaking the 180. I may even have to place some no shoots or maybe a wall along the sides to help prevent this. Thanks for any help you can give me to make this work. Where\'s my ammo.doc
  4. Why all the hostility toward the women shooters? Can't someone's ego take getting beat by a girl? This past summer we had a fairly regular shooter at a steel match and my daughter cleaned his clock in the shootoff. If looks could have killed I would have had to shoot him. He packed his toys and hasn't been back since. I don't see any need to mess with the divisions we have now. When my wife and I started shooting we loaded our XDM9s full and played in limited minor. We were not going to win anyway so what did it matter how we were scored. For our first 5-6 matches our goal was to not do something stupid and learn how to play. We later picked up XDM45s and started playing in L-10 with them and now we sometimes will shoot the 9s in production and use them for steel matches. After one full summer of shooting we are both classed C in L-10 and in production she is C and I made B. My daughter don't like to reload so has stayed in limited minor with her Ruger SR9. She has stayed in D all summer but if she would have shot production or have shot limited major she would have made C. All three of us have been able to find a place to play with no problem.
  5. See this thread http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=133816 These guys have taken care of us on this.
  6. bikerburgess- The question is hammer down main spring compressed a legal ready condition. Dan Burwell-Since the DP51 has an external hammer it would have to be "fully" decocked not just have the hammer lowered ac4wordplay- Shoot it from whatever condition you like... in OPEN Skydiver- I think its in reference to this: 6.2.5.1 Maybe I'm missing something but as I read it biker asks if the hammer down, spring compressed is legal. Dan tells him it needs to be fully decocked. Then ac says he can shoot it how he wants in open as if production is not an option. Don't take this as arguing, I'm just trying to figure it out for myself. I am going to take the RO class in the spring and if one of these guns shows up I want to know how to handle it. This is the first time I ever heard of a Daewoo so I went to the NROI page to see if it was on the production list. My first thought, when I saw Daewoo was, what makes him think he going to get a car in his holster.
  7. Why would he have to shoot it in open? The production list has a Daewoo DH40 and a DP51 on it unless you know more about the gun than is in the OP.
  8. The procedure says engage with two rounds each. Penalties are -10 for extra shot, -10 for extra hit -5 for late shot.
  9. Shoot the .45 in Limited 10. If you are going to shoot Major you may as well score major.
  10. I hate -45 and I hope our weatherman is lying. Calling for a couple more days of -25 to -30 and not getting above zero in the next week and a half.
  11. Who should I contact about not receiving election ballets? My daughter received hers over a week ago and returned it but my wife and I have not received ours yet.
  12. I can't argue that it was a bad design. Our match director was not able to make the match so we didn't have any predesigned stages. the four stages we shot were made up on the spot so we could have a shoot. there were only seven people there as the tempeture at the start of the match was in the mid twentys and all of the fair weather shooters stayed home. Only three of the people there were ROs and have been shooting more than a couple years. Only one of them really has much experience in designing stages. I don't want it to sound like I'm busting anyone's balls over it. My hope is that everyone there can learn from it and prevent something like this from happening again. I can see where the no shoot targets placed behind the star would have prevented the problem. This was the last match we will be shooting outside until April or May. The indoor range that we use will not let us shoot steel at all so this won't be a problem for us until next spring. The club is looking into having an RO class this winter or early spring so maybe more of us can get certified and have a better understanding to stop some of this from happening in the future. Thanks for the ideas and keep them coming. The one thing I am sure of is that even with this problem the day at the range was better than working around the house.
  13. This week end we had a stage that had a no shoot target directly in front of the bottom of a Texas star. I had what has to be my best run on the star ever until I get to the last plate which was behind the no shoot. I hit the first four plates and the last one never became visible from behind the no shoot. The RO was scoring it as a miss and I argued that the target was never available and how could it be a miss if I couldn't even engage it. It became a non issue when we got to the next array which was paper targets that did not get taped so I was given a re shoot. The no shoot target was raised up so it couldn't block the bottom plate. I was the first shooter on the stage so no one else had an issue with it. Of course everything fell apart on the re shoot and I went from a sub 20 second run to over 30 with a jam and having my tail kicked on the star. Should the plate on the star have been scored as a miss seeing that it was hidden behind the no shoot and not available to engage? Had it not have been for the paper not being taped I would have been happy with a no penalty miss.
  14. Just click on the StageEx logo in the first post. Great site.
  15. You need to get your wife to shoot with you. If I only bought one I would just loose it to her. Anytime I want a new gun I have to get her one also. When is the XDM 45 5.25 gonna be out? I need to get a couple of them on order.
  16. I shot a 6 stage classifier match in May and put up four scores in the high 50% to low 60% range the other two scores were 43% and a 16%. In the June update the four top scores came out at 59.02 and I was classed as C. The lower two scores were flagged with an F and not used. I did not get a chance to shoot a classifier in June but for the July update the 43 and 16 were flagged with a Y and averaged in to drop me to 49.32%. I have shot two more classifiers that should be a low 70% and a mid 50% since the update which should go in next month. If my math is right it should bump me to about 63% for the August update. This should put the 16 and 43 back to an F flag then they will be the first to drop off with an E flag when more scores go in. I wish the system would automatically update as scores were put in instead of having to wait for the middle of each month.
  17. Thanks for posting the stages. I see I need to practice some long shots in the next couple weeks.
  18. Why would he take penalties for weak hand shots? If he has only one hand would it not be his weak hand as well as his strong hand? I am sure that he is taking enough of a time penalty on his reloads to make up for any advantage gained.I'm sure he would never complain and just go on.
  19. Yep, we all know that they don't use clips but they are made and named by your neighbors in PA so I'll let it slide. Besides they really save the thumbs when loading the magazines for these pistols. The only problem I have had is running out of ammo because my thumbs didn't tell me to quit.
  20. I am going to have six Ultimate Clip Loaders to award as prizes at a local steel match next month. The loader will work with Ruger Mark IIs, Mark IIIs, 22/45s, Browning Buckmarks and a few other 22 autos with similar thin magazines. I have only been shooting a little over a year and have no experience with prizes at a match. I contacted the company about the loader and they offered six to give out. The match director is leaving it up to me to give them out. I'm sure that if my idea blows he will step in and make a suggestion. I need ideas as to how to determine who to give them to. My idea is to limit the winners to people who shoot the match with one of the pistols that the the loader will work with. The top four finishers would win one and the fifth & sixth ones would be given by drawing to two of the remaining shooters using one of these guns. I was thinking top five at first but my wife suggested four and leave two to draw for as people who know they would not make the top five may still shoot if they have two chances to win by drawing. My thinking on this is that I would hate for someone who shoots a revolver to win one and it end up in a closet never to be seen again. I want them to be used so that the company which donated the loaders will get benefit of them being used at future matches. Should I limit them to only the people who are using one of the 22s that the loader works with? Should I make anyone who shoots a 22 pistol eligible to win one? Should I just do a drawing for everyone at the match and award them by chance? Any other ideas will be entertained. The July match had 45 entries 14 were rim fire pistol 5 were rim fire rifle and the rest were center fire pistols. Most of the rim fires are shot as a second entry. Most of the people who shoot the rim fire pistols are using a Ruger or Browning. I will be able to give about a three week notice so people who preregister will know ahead of time that the prize will be available and what the eligibility requirements are. Thanks for any ideas on this.
  21. I shoot an XDM9 in production and an XDM45 in limited 10. I started shooting last fall and my first classifers were this spring. I shot a 6 stage classifer match in May with my 9mm and ended up with a C classifaction at 59.02%. I have two scores that should be in for the next update that will bump me to B class. I wouldn't shoot in production if the classifier was to put one round in the A zone at 10 feet with comstock scoring and 10 minutes to get it done for 100%. I know that I can shoot well enough to make it but I will not let it be a distraction when I shoot for the next couple weeks. Besides it will give me the chance to give my wife a hard time because I will make B class before her. I'll still know where I stand at home. Right where she tells me to, I've watched her shoot.
  22. I saw a guy do something like this so he wouldn't get moved up. I think they call that sand bagging. I say shoot the stage like any other stage and let the chips fall. More like Grand bagging if you are trying to move up, but she has the score to move up and doesn’t want to screw that up. It’s not like she is trying to stay in a lower class where she wins that class instead moving up where she will not place as high. Would you really be hurting anyone when moving from D to C or from C to B? Once you make that jump to the next class you can just shoot without worry it is much easier to excel when you quit trying to not fail. It sounds like she has decided to shoot another division and I could feel the relief in her post. Now she is going to kick herself when the scores come out because she will put up one of her best scores ever. Good luck kimmie and have fun at your match.
  23. The first thing to do is get it in your head that you will do well and forget about blowing the stage. If you have a problem on the stage blow it good and hit a no shoot target enough times to zero the stage so it will not get used. Another option, if you don't want to take a chance, shoot in another division for the Aug match. My daughter is in the same situation. She will knock out a sub 10% score with her next classifier but if it is not enough to bump her to C class the next couple to go will be mid to high 40% scores. I think I am going to tell her that she is too far away to make it and just shoot and have fun so she don't go in trying not to do bad instead of just shooting and doing what she is capable of.
  24. That was my understanding as well but the USPSA office says that it is correct. The 16 and 43 were not used for the initial classifaction but when it ran again they were used under the best 6 of the most recent 8. I can even understand the 43 being used on the second run but I would have thought that the 16 would have been flagged B as it is more than 5% below C class. It's not worth me spending any time trying to have it changed because they will be bumped to 7th and 8th next month anyway. I sure could use a no brainer steel match to take my mind off of this.
