  1. Rainier 135's are as accurate as any jacketed bullet in my Gold Team, but watch the crimp.
  2. I've been using Rainier 135gr Flat Nose bullets this season and can't be more pleased. The Rainier over Autocomp at 1250 fps is a very accurate load in my Gold Team. Gold Team functions reliably with this load.
  3. Glock fired brass gave my Gold Team fits. Like Nealio said, X-die or GRX. Have you tried off the shelf ammo? Does it do the same thing?
  4. The good thing about the .40 is you can reload it down to recoil levels less than a 9mm. A load using a 155 coated lead bullet over a small charge of WST is very pleasant to shot and the brass doesn't fall very far from the gun. You will have to switch to a 9 Lb recoil spring, though. I use to shoot this load at plates before switching to unlimited.
  5. Let me clarify that, a mandatory reload:)
  6. Give me a good Outlaw match any day. I like the ones where a reload is involved.
  7. BallisticianX, I know this doesn't help you out but my GT in .40 runs like a scolded dog since I switched to Mac-Gar magazines. I think I've shot over 1000 rounds in competition since the switch without a single malfunction. Now when I first got the gun I did have a few jams where the ejected case was getting caught between the ejection port and scope mount but that went away after a few hundred rounds. I hope you can get your problem resolved because I do think the Gold Team is a fast, reliable gun.
  8. I bought my Mec-gars from Midway. Work just fine in my Limited Pro and Gold Team with Henning bases and grams springs.
  9. Atlas, How does the gun handle with the long barrel? I would think with the extra weight out front the gun would settle down quickly. Nice looking setup.
  10. Or, shoot the gun as is for awhile and let all the parts get worn in. Then, if you feel the need to upgrade, go for it. When I bought my Gold Team I also ordered a lot of the extras for it but the only thing I've replaced so far is the guide rod for a Henning conehead.
  11. I sure like shooting my Tanfoglios. So far I haven't experienced any breakages and I've shot my Limited Pro for 5 years and my Gold Team for 6 months. I like the way they feel in my hand and how quickly they come up on target. I would suggest you take your time and enjoy the excitement of the hunt for a new gun.
  12. Neither, .40 S&W shooting around 170 pf. I've shot my friends STI in .38SC and I think I can shoot my .40 GT just as fast. It may have a little more muzzle flip but with 8.5 gr. of Autocomp under a 135 gr. Rainier flat nose, it amazes me how fast the dot is back on target with the Gold Team. I think you made a good choice on your selection. PS. Let the heckling begin about the .40.
  13. I think you will enjoy shooting it. I get plum giddy when I shoot mine.
  14. Looks like Midway has knocked $50 off the price of their large and small frame .22 conversions. Thanks Midway for not doing this a month ago when I purchased mine:(
  15. What they said. If you have any old factory mags you can add the above items but limit you rounds to 15 or less. I can run 15 rounds reliably but anything over that is a crap shoot.
  16. Straightsh00ter, Once you were able to find the dot, you hit the target every time, and I think your last ten shots were fired in under 4 seconds. The load I settled on returns the Gold Team to the same point of aim very quickly. If you were to fire that load in a non-comped gun, the muzzle flip would be severe. Take your time on your decision and I would recommend the Limited. I looked at the scores from last night and the Gold Team came out on top of an STI, CZ Czechmate, Glock and other makes.
  17. StraightSh00ter, That's the one. It's feels a lot better being behind the Gold Team than back and to the side of it. I don't notice any blast and I wear two types of hearing protection so the noise isn't an issue either. But, for RO's with just one set of ears, it's intimidating just like any other open gun with a dual comp and 12 popple holes. Since I starting using Mec-Gar mags and full length sizing of the .40 brass, I've fired over 1000 rounds without one malfunction (knock on wood). The only changes I've made to the gun is added a slide racker, thumb rest, Henning magwell and Henning mag base pads with the Gram springs and followers.
  18. Straightsh00ter, If you attend Friday Night Steel this week look me up. I'll have my Gold Team and .22 Limited Pro conversion that you can look at and shoot it you want. I'm the 6'4" gray haired fat man with the red shirt on. PS: The gold team is a beast so bring extra hearing protection and a blast shield:)
  19. Limited Pro has a shorter frame because it has a shorter dust cover, and the frame is not drilled and tapped for a scope mount, but everything is the same as far as the frame goes.
  20. Don't be lured over to the dark side (STI). If I knew you were there, and I knew who you were, I would have let you shoot my Gold Team. It's a little loud but a blast to shoot. You might look into next Saturdays shoot at Miami Rifle and Pistol.
  21. Straightsh00ter, At last nights Friday Night Steel there were at least 2 people shooting Witness Limited's and I shot mt .40 Gold Team. There's lots of friendly shooters there and glad to answer any questions you have (especially Tanfo owners). I placed 2nd in unlimited being beat out by my friend and his STI .38SC by only 0.81s so tanfoglios are competitive. I've probably shot close to 20,000 rounds thru my 3 Witness's without anything breaking (knock on wood) so I think their tough and reliable. Good luck on your decision and I hope you had fun at the shoot. PS. I got there late but if you were still there, I was the old, fat guy in the red shirt with gray hair enjoying shooting.
  22. Straightsh00ter, I shoot steel in the Cincinnati area. There is a few of us who shoot everything from Witness Steels to Gold Teams. I started with a Witness Steel and liked it so well that I purchased a Limited Pro. Last fall I bought a Gold Team and really enjoy shooting unlimited. I just purchased a .22 conversion and am in the process of mounting it on top of my Limited Pro frame.
  23. My next project. I mounted a .22 conversion on my Limited Pro frame. I'm going to modify a factory magwell to accept a stock .22 mag. I'm having my machinist buddy make me some extended mag bases and then it's off to the races. I've only fired 10 rounds of slow fire with no problems. Tomorrow I'm running 50 rounds thru it. Slow and rapid fire.
  24. I think I'm going to draw up a UHMW Poly extended base and let my machinist buddy make one for my .22 mag. I'm going to modify the factory magwell so I'll only have do just a little modification to the stock magazine. I'll post pictures when it's complete.
