  1. I've ordered red xtreme grips, Henning conefit guide rod and USPSA base pads with Grams spring kit for the Gold Team. I think I'll also replace the magwell on the Gold Team with the Henning magwell I currently have on my Limited Pro. I thought about the sideways scope mount but stayed with the more traditional mount. I'll start playing around with reloads in the next few weeks, trying to find what load provides good accuracy with minimum muzzle flip. I'll search this forum for that information. I don't think my powder puff loads I shoot in the Limited Pro will do much for maximizing the efficiency of the 12 holes and dual port compensator.
  2. I shoot a Ruger Mark III at the local steel plate shoots, but was thinking about buying a .22 conversion for my WItness Steel. I like the way the Witness feels in my hand, and I also shoot a Limited Pro in Custom Auto (added Henning magwell). The only thing that has worried me in the past is reliability. My Ruger performs 99.5% of the time and I can't afford one misfire or misfeed. With what I'm reading, is it safe to say that if I buy a new .22 conversion kit, with a little work, it should function nearly 100%, just like my Ruger (499 out 500)?
  3. kneelingatlas, I take it I have to remove the trigger to adjust the reset travel setscrew? Never mind, just read an early post that says I should be able to adjust the screw with the slide removed.
  4. On this, and other forums, I've read how the Gold Teams have had feeding issues, so I was curious how my new Gold Team in .40 S&W would do. I currently own a WItness Steel and a Witness Limited Pro, both in .40 S&W, and have never had a problem with either one of them. That is the main reason I bought the Gold Team in .40 S&W. I took the gun out today and fired almost 100 rounds through it, using Federal white box 165 grain jacketed flat nose bullets. I reload for the other guns but only had lead rounds loaded and wanted to break the Gold Team in with jacketed bullets. I started off by sighting in my C-More red dot. After about 10 shots, I starting shooting double and and triple taps. I was amazed how fast I could get the dot back on target. I then started shooting 6 round burst of controlled fire with the dot coming back on target very quickly. I ended the day shooting three, ten round busrt as fast as I could pull the trigger. When the shooting was over, the Gold Team ended up functioning perfectly. The only changes I need to make to the gun is to remove about 1/16" from the slde racker so it clears the EAA side scope mount, buy 2mm longer flat head screws to mount the EAA side mount because factory screws are too short, and adjust the reset screw to shorten the trigger travel. Other than that, I really like the way the Gold Team shoots, with very little muzzle jump and quick sight acquisition. Also, I think it may be the most accurate WItness I own.
  5. Great looking handgun and I really like the Ionbond finish. I bought a 1991 vintage IAI Javelina in 10mm Auto last Christmas and I really enjoy shooting it.
  6. Tiny Tim, it looks like we will have a Merry Christmas.
  7. Anywhere between 1.135" to 1.200". The minimum length feeds as well as the maximum length. I shoot light loads at the local steel shoot so both guns have an 8 lb. recoil spring. My factory mags were .40 S&W with a spacer bar inside the front of the magazine. When I put the H-141 base pad, follower, and spring in I had to knock the spacer bar out. I was afraid this might affect feeding, but after about 300 rounds fired at a rapid pace, no problems.
  8. I guess I'm just lucky but I put Henning's H-141 base pad, follower, and spring kit in 3 of my stock .40 S&W magazine bodies, and the H-520 base pad with stock follower and spring in 3 of my other .40 magazine bodies and have not had one FTF problem in either my Limited Pro or my Witness Steel. At first getting 21 rounds in the H-141 magazine was a little tough but now they go in without to much finger pressure. Same with the H-520 and 18 rounds. My guns eat a diet of LRNWC, LSWC, plated flat nose, and jacketed HP.
  9. I have a Witness Limited Pro n 40 S&W. I shoot mostly steel plate matches where it's all about speed. After shooting over 2000 rounds this summer of reloaded 155 LSWC, 155 LRN, 165 FN Precision Delta's, 155 RN Berry's, and 155 Rainier FN, I have yet to have one jam. I did have some failure to fire when I replaced the stock hammer spring with a 13 lb spring, but after installing a Henning X-long firing pin I've had no more misfires, even when using CCI magnum primers. I don't have any experience with the 9mm large frame witness but my .40 shoots just fine. I also have a Witness Steel in .40 and I've had the same luck with it. I just wish it had the same sights as my Pro.
  10. EK, There are only 4 shoots left this season. If you get on FNS's website you can get information and directions to Fairfield Sportsmans Associations range. www.fridaynightsteel.com Hope to see you there. P.S. Just got back from Miami Rifle & Pistol Club's Wednesday night steel shoot. It was the last Wednesday night shoot of the year. How did I shoot? Let's just say it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
  11. Wecome EK. You should check out the Friday Night Steel shoot at the Fairfield Sportsman Association shooting range located near Ross, Ohio. Fridaynightsteel.com
  12. The USPSA match I shot was at I.W.L.A. Oxford Lodge, held every 1st Sunday, just outside of Oxford, OH. Everyone there was nice and very helpful. Another club close to me, Miami Rifle & Pistol, has an USPSA shoot on the 4th Sunday of the month. Fourtrax, after I get some more experience and some money saved up I'll probably be heading up your way. One more person I really want to thank is my wife. Last Sunday, the day of the shoot, was our 29th wedding aniversary. I told her I would stay home but she said go ahead and shoot. She said next year though, our 30th aniversary will, and I repeat, will be spent in Gatlinburg. Does anyone know of a USPSA shoot near Gatlinburg, TN on the weekend of Sept. 30, 2011?
  13. I shoot steel at least once a week and I think the longer mag base will also help me out there. I've come up short on getting the factory mag home a few times and that's enough to takes me out of the top 10.
  14. Thank you twodownzero. Class categorizes shooters to allow them to compete against other competitors of the same skill level. Division is defined by the equipment used. See, I'm learning and there is a lot to learn.
  15. A friend at the local steel shoot finally talked me into shooting in a USPSA match. What can I say, it was great. The gun peformed flawlessly and I didn't do to bad either. I ended finishing 16 out of 39 with an overall Stg% of 71.67. There were 4 Masters along with A's, B's and some C's ahead of me. Now all I need is a good belt, 2 more mag pouches, and some Henning extended mag bases. I could only get 14 rounds into the stock magazines so it seemed I was always reloading. The Limited Pro already has a 13 lb hammer spring, a Henning XL firing pin, and a Henning cone guide rod.
  16. No GM's but there were 4 Masters with A's, B's and some C's in between. Now all I need to do join the USPSA.
  17. Well, after shooting my first USPSA match I'm hooked. I had three goals before the match. 1. Shoot safely. 2. Shoot accurately, speed will come later. 3. Don't fall down. I achived my 1st and 3rd goals but rushed some of my shots and could have been more accurate. I shot in limited class using my EAA Limited Pro in .40 S&W with some Henning upgrades. The gun functioned flawlessly but I do have to do some things before the next match and that is to get new mag bases that increase the mag capacity from 14, could not shove 15 in, to 21. Next, get a good belt and a couple more mag pouches. I ended up overall placing 16 out of 39 with a Stg.% of 71.67. I was 9 out of 13 in unlimited. Wish I would had started USPSA shooting years ago. At 51, I'm just not as fast on my feet as I used to be.
  18. I have 8 mags for my .40 Witness Steel and .40 Limited Pro and haven't had a problem with them in either gun. I have shot both factory and home brew ammo with no jams of any kind. I load 14 rounds per magazine because 15 rounds is a little on the tight side. Both guns have a total of 2500 rounds shot thru them.
  19. I hope he's working on the new DA trigger he talked about. That would complete my Limited Pro.
  20. After getting some light primer strikes with a 14 lb hammer spring that I had installed in my EAA Limited Pro I switched from CCI primers to Federal primers and temporally solved the problem. I added a Henning X-long firing pin shortened for safe operation in the double action Pro to remedy the light strike problem and was able to ues CCI magnum primers with no misfires. I then installed a 13 lb hammer spring and took the gun to the local range. Using my CCI magnum primer loads, I shot the Ltd. Pro both double and single action with no misfires. Last night at a local steel shoot I shot 100 rounds at a rather brisk pace with no misfires or other problems. I ended up finishing 2nd after going into the final stage with the lead. I really like the way the Ltd. Pro feels and shoots since the addition of a Wolff 8 lb recoil spring, Wolff 13 lb hammer spring, Henning cone guide rod, and a Henning X-long firing pin. The trigger pull is much lighter and the gun is 100% reliable.
  21. My old boss of 10 years last name was Huening, and right when I got the name Henning down. I'll be ordering a Huening rolling trigger plunger soon. If I could only get a good double action trigger. I'm afraid the guys at the local steel shoot might notice if my Ltd. Pro becames single action. No more stock auto.
  22. I'm planning on replacing the stock trigger plunger in my Limited Pro with a Henning rolling trigger plunger. My question is does anyone know when Henning will be offering it with the lighter spring? I'm in no hurry to replace it so I was going to wait for the lighter spring option.
  23. I have a 14 lb spring in my .40 witness steel and have no problem using Win, Fed or CCI mag primers. Put a 14 lb spring in my Limited Pro and could only use Fed primers reliably. I then installed a Henning XL firing pin and now have no problems with any primers.
  24. I remember how nervous I got my first year of steel plates. The day before the match I would look over the stages, and figure out the fastest way to shoot them, over and over in my mind at work. When I arrived at the match I would be so keyed up I'd be shaking. The first time to the line I'd have to remember to breath. My first win I was so excited I told everybody I knew about my great victory. Those were the days. Fifteen years later I no longer look at the stages in advance. I'm not really nervous, just glad to be shooting and even though I'm still competitive, I'm not as upset if I miss a reload or am slow to pick up my sights. Yes, I'm more relaxed now but I do miss the feelings I use to get 15 years ago.
