  1. I'm going to shoot some L10 next year because I want to shoot my Browning Hi-Power.
  2. I suppose you could start with a S&W 1917. I see them on the auction sites fairly frequently, without the price of a 625.
  3. Go revolver. I finally bought a 625 and the gear, and started shooting USPSA late last summer. I've been the only revolver shooter at one match, and one of 4 or 5 at the other two I shot, and everyone has been really supportive. I'm not competitive, but I am sure having a good time. Lots of folks have asked me about my gun and gear; it's been a great way to meet people.
  4. I'm missing the one I shot on the 6th as well. And it was a good one! I hope it didn't get lost. Season's over for me, next match won't be until March at the earliest.
  5. Join right in! All that's needed is your USPSA number and what division you are shooting in.
  6. That's where my moon clip carrier rides, so I put the overlap in the back.
  7. What is the 0.160" a measure of? Warren is on the shortlist, as soon as I figure out which height to get.
  8. Shooting a 5" 625 and I would like to put a fiber optic front sight on it before next season. The stock front sight height is 0.272" and I have 0.06" of travel before the rear sight bottoms out. If I go with a 0.250" front sight, it will shoot high with my current settings. But there should be enough travel before the sight bottoms out to regain zero. If I go with a 0.300" front sight, it will shoot low with my current settings, and the rear sight will have to come up to regain zero. Or do I have it backwards?
  9. I sent a note to my area director asking him to vote for it. That said, I will continue to compete with my 625 until they won't let me anymore, and then I'll switch to Single Stack. ETA - got a quick response; they voted last night. Should be public knowledge today.
  10. Carry and compete with revolvers and 1911's, depending on my mood.
  11. Your initial classification is the best 4 of your most recent 6 (or best 4 of however many if you haven't shot 6). After that, it's best 6 of the most recent 8, so yes, all six will be used. That was the conclusion I reached as well, after some study of the rules. Well, it's a good thing the lowest score will drop out first!
  12. You know, I'm still trying to figure out how this process works. I understand how I got my initial classification, but the next one is where I can't figure it out. I will have six classifiers by the time the next update runs - will all six be used or will the two lowest drop out? I guess my question will be answered when they run the next update...
  13. I shot a solid classifier today, but it won't be enough to move me up.
  14. I have Pachmayr's but I'm going to get a set of Hogue's and see which I like better. The Pachmayr's work just fine, but I have Hogue on some other guns and like the way they feel.
  15. Dry fire and working on my draw did me in. I stretch, wear a brace, and do big hits of ibuprofen as necessary. It's getting better, slowly.
  16. Welcome! Shooting a revolver in competition is a blast, but be ready to be the odd man out - it's fun to be different! I carry in leather holsters, but switch to kydex for competition. None of the local matches I've attended allow a "low ready" start, it's all from the holster, but yours may be different. Best bet would be to contact your local club and ask. I use North Mountain moon clip holders but I don't know if they would work for IDPA like it sounds you are more interested in; I use a speedloader gun for that game. I wouldn't even bother going without chamfered charge holes - they make a huge difference. I haven't made the switch to a fiber optic front, but I can tell it's in the future. You may or may not want to modify your hammer, IDPA is being grumpy about some of the more radical hammer bobs out there. But really, the first thing you should do is go shoot a match. DO NOT go to observe; this is not a spectator sport. I would also recommend USPSA, but that's just because I think it's more fun than IDPA.
  17. I should have said, "unclassified". Brain and fingers not communicating!
  18. Need to add UFO - currently unqualified, A81578, Limited 10.
  19. I think he's talking about IDPA. Target with hands is a non-threat, "don't shoot me!" target. Image courtesy Oleg Volk.
  20. I had an interesting malfunction at the match last weekend. Let me set the stage... http://www.bitterrootblasters.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Swing-Away.pdf The plan was to shoot the singles to the left and right, then reload as I was moving through the opening to take on the 3 targets to the right, then reload for the left 3, reload, continue... What actually happened was that I engaged the singles but when I executed the reload, the moon wouldn't go in. I dropped it and grabbed another one that wouldn't go in either so I stopped and looked for grit in the chambers - actually blew into them - but then I noticed the bullet base lodged in the cylinder throat. I stopped completely and the RO verified the issue, then grabbed a squib rod. We noticed powder all over the barrel top where I ejected the moon clip, the case was good... it just pulled. Damfino. Not super-duper loads, I haven't run them over a chronograph but they should make major pretty easily. Lee 240 grain TL RN is the bullet. All moons were checked in the gun prior to the match. Since I was the only Revo shooter and it was a club match, the MD very kindly allowed me a re-shoot. Gun ran fine the rest of the match (lots of operator error though!) but I did go over to the safe area before the next stage and cleaned the chambers. Happen to anyone else? It's been bugging me a little bit. All I can think is that the bullet jumped a little during recoil.
  21. And many thanks to jdphotoguy for picking that up.
  22. I think that's a darn good idea. Thanks!
  23. So, here's how it looks on the USPSA website this morning. I'll update it on the 15th (or earlier, if someone else wants to play). Expect the order to change on the 15th! 24. I tend to wear electronic muffs. Once they're on, they stay on until I'm getting into my car. If I wear plugs I find that I can't hear the range commands as well as I want to. The sweat is just an added bonus.
  25. Shot a good, solid D classifier today. Would have been a great one except for hitting those three white targets. Dangit!
