  1. I compete with a 17 or 22 and carry a 30. Been thinking about getting a 26 or 27.
  2. I run a 17 gen 4 for production and find that at the end of the day my right palm is sore from the nubs on the grip. I grip HARD. I built a limited gun on a 22 gen 3 and much prefer that texture to the gen 4.
  3. Don't know how far you are willing to travel or how long you are willing to wait, but there is one in Missoula, MT August 13th. That's a looong drive just to shoot classifiers though.
  4. Damn clickbait title! I was sure you DQ'd and was mentally groaning - I've been following your other thread.
  5. I built one last fall on a police turn-in 22; haven't had a chance to compete with it yet but recoil isn't bad. I don't have any weights on mine. The block is threaded onto the barrel with a dab of loc-tite, and then a set screw comes in from underneath. More loc-tite there. Kind of doubt it's going to move.
  6. Yep, could very well be. Bad habits are easy to acquire.
  7. Try this: go to your safe, and get out a non-race handgun - and practice reloading THAT. I dug out my old Browning HP about a week ago and have been practicing going from looking at the sights, drop the mag (catch it, or strip it with my left hand), take it to my hip, put it back in the gun and back up to the sights. Holy crap that gun is hard to load smoothly! But today I grabbed my limited gun with its huge magwell and I couldn't miss.
  8. I shoot L10 when I'm feeling the urge to shoot my Browning High Power.
  9. I shoot in every division except open and limited, and my limited gun will be ready soon. I try to commit to a division for a year, but it doesn't always work out that way; I am shooting production this year but my 625 is calling to me.
  10. I am sure it's been stated before, but I'll say it again; Make sure you have the correct magazines for your pistol. A P228 magazine fits nicely in a Beretta 92, but it is too short to feed...
  11. Every time I have watched anyone do it that way (mag to the right, pointed into the gun) the shooter has screwed it up and taken longer to unscrew it than if they had just picked the gun up in their right, mag in left, and loaded. Yah, it might be faster if you can pull it off - and I'm sure some people do - but it's a train wreck waiting to happen in my experience. My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it!
  12. So, here's a not-very-good picture of my $400 limited gun. Totally usable as is, but I'll be spending some money on +5 magazine extensions next.
  13. Ain't no "later" about it. As soon as I have the dough saved up Taylor Freelance will be providing a barrel, sight block, +5 baseplates and a magell unless I can find some used gear on the classifieds. I already have a decent set of fiber optic sights in my parts bin so that's covered. The whole rig should fit on my production setup so I won't need a holster or mag pouches right away.
  14. Gulf States Distributors had mine, but G22's are all over GunBroker. Just have to find the one you like.
  15. That's why the sight block is going to be part of this. May jury-rig a frame weight as well (think weaver scope mount with a chunk of steel rod clamped in it).
  16. So I decided to put my money where my mouth is and just won a gen3 g22 LE trade-in at Gunbroker for under $300. Already has an extended slide release and mag release, and came with three magazines. Some judicious perusing of the classifieds found a G24-length barrel (I am going to put a Taylor Freelance sight block on it) for a good price. Should be an interesting project.
  17. Living in Montana has its benefits, but no competitions until April in my neck of the woods. So that is driving me nuts. And who in the name of all that is holy decided that small primers were at all acceptable for 45 acp brass? If I ever find out, I'm gonna beat that person with my SDB. So much for cranking out reloads when I have to check every damned piece of brass for primer size - and I have buckets of 45 to reload. Grr. That is all.
  18. Ok, here goes. I shoot a G17 in production and would like to occasionally compete in Limited. I understand that I could just upload my mags and shoot the 17, but I don't want to go minor (read: excuse to buy a new gun!). So I've been looking at all the LE trade in G22's on the market right now and wondering. Gen3 G22 with 3 mags: $329 + $30 shipping + $10 FFL fees = $370 Dawson sights and magwell: $200 Taylor Freelance +5 basepads: $108 Unless my math is bad, that's $678, add in some for shipping and you're right at $700 for a basic Limited setup. Do a polish job on the internals, stipple/undercut as wanted. Use my production holster and mag pouches, heck just put the belt on and go play. I know someone out there's been down this road before; anything I'm missing? An extended mag release would be necessary, but those are cheap. Any other unforeseen issues? Stories? Negative waves?
  19. Just to throw my $.02 in... I run a Gen4 G17 with Dawson FO front/Black rear. All stock internals, although I did polish everything up - not sure it made a difference, but I enjoy working on things. I don't need grip tape, either as the Gen4 is plenty rough for me to get a good grip.
  20. Zack, I'm going to be shooting Production this year, please update. Thanks!
  21. I shot a special classifier with my Browning last weekend; if the online calculators are even close to being correct I should have made C in L10. Please change me to that division!
  22. Strong Hand Only and Weak Hand Only. Or, were you being sarcastic? Your light wasn't on, I couldn't tell.
  23. Just the standard Hogue rubber finger groove grips on my 625. Might like to try a big butt if I ever get serious about revo shooting again.
  24. Drove three hours last weekend for a match. When I woke up Sunday morning, it was raining/snowing, 31 degrees and the range appeared to be completely in the clouds. Drove three hours home. Fortunately I was staying at my parents house and got to see a bunch of family that I haven't seen in years, so that made missing the match annoying but bearable. I have shot rifle comps in bad weather, even thunderstorms, but don't think I would anymore.
  25. The more I think about this, the more I want to expound on it. So, Special Classifier. I'm rusty from little to no practice all winter, but what the heck; some friends are shooting that I haven't seen in a while so I go. First stage I totally choke, missing steel and forcing a reload, but something clicks and I OWN the second stage. Third stage is solid, but as I'm clearing the gun the rear sight falls out of its dovetail. No way to fix it. Plenty of other single stack shooters were there and I don't even think it occurred to anyone to loan me a gun - it didn't occur to me to ask! So, I shot the last two stages without a rear sight. All hits were low, pretty much tanked those stages. Now my question is, would I have been better off statistics wise, to just sit out those last two stages? My initial reaction at the match was to shoot them. On the drive home, I convinced myself that I should have put the gun away, helped paste the rest of the match, and been happy with two good and one bad stage instead of two good and three bad ones. A few days later I put the numbers into a spreadsheet (Yeah, I'm a numbers geek. Sue me.) and came to the conclusion that it didn't matter. The two stages shot without a rear sight are so bad that they will probably (hopefully!) never be used in my classification. The other one is used, but will be the first one to drop out. Since I shot a special classifier last fall, followed by one match and then another special classifer, the best scores from both specials and the match are in effect until I get a few more classification stages shot, when last falls special will drop out. Oh, and I drilled and tapped the rear sight for a set screw and re-installed it. My backup gun is getting all the work done to bring it to ready status - and it won't be staying in the vault anymore.
