  1. I ran magnums and it only increased fps about 30, so did not even change power factor more than 1.
  2. All guns and other major prizes should be a raffle with the proceeds going to the cost of putting on the match or donated back to the shooting sports. Small prizes by random draw. Put on a great match and most will not care about the table. Those who do, who cares.
  3. I'm not seeing any shortage yet. None of the major online sources are back ordered and all the local stores have all sizes in stock, from at least a couple manufacturers. Not to say a shortage is not forthcoming, but I don't think it has started. We just ordered about 40k primers from PV and none were on BO. Same with bullets and powder.
  4. I'm with the OP on this. If you are ok with GD, then that is your choice. But if you are or claim to be a Christian, then you should not be ok with it. CEO Christians tolerate, but, I don't think we should be considered easily offended because we are not ok with it. It also amazes me how people say family friendly or not in front of children or ladies. Is it ok to sin as long as it is not in front or a family? Anyone can say what they want. The Constitution will protect you for about 100 years if you are lucky. As for me, I will stick with the commandments and be protected a lot longer.
  5. We have all steel practice matches once a month. USPSA style, just all steel. If weather is going to be bad, think about that as an option. Lots of fun and really easy reset.
  6. It looks like the Glock 35 is much more popular for Limited class and I was wondering why. I shot a G35 for two seasons and liked it, then switched to a custom STI. I have a G34 for the occasional production match, our Glocks only match and anywhere that minor is an advantage. I have a new custom Open STI coming next week and I was considering switching back to a Glock for Limited. A local store has a G24 in stock and it felt good in my hands. Is the difference in shooting a G35 and G24 basically the same difference when shooting a 6" vs 5" STI build? I am seriously considering the 24 over the 35, but have never shot the 24. I assume the recoil impulse and muzzle flip wll be reduced with the 24's longer barrel and slide. Accuracy should be slightly better, but it will transition from target to target slightly slower. I also assume it will use slightly less powder to make PF with the longer barrel. I am thinking a G24 with a KKM drop in barrel. Then sharing the Dawson Magwell, Springs and Tungsten Guide Rod between my G34 and the new G24. Not sure what trigger yet, am leaning toward a JP trigger job just for fun. If they do the trigger one tenth as good as they make rifles, it will be awesome. So, any thoughts on why the G35 is so much more popular would be appreciated.
  7. When cleaning slides, has anyone seen problems with fiber optic sights?
  8. MGM. I think they offer free shipping over a certain $$$ amount and it is pretty low.
  9. I think it is great if someone stays after a DQ. My only point was that I don't think they should be looked upon poorly or thought any less of, if they choose to go home. Leaving after a DQ is not unsportsmanlike conduct, I guess is my opinion.
  10. I was DQ'd at a local 3 gun for a slam fire. No big deal, everyone is going to get a DQ eventually. I packed it in and went home. It was early, the second stage and getting hot outside. I see no reason a DQ'd shooter should be expected to stay. If he wants to stay and watch and hang out, great. But if he would rather go home and do chores, catch a movie or lick his wounds, no one has any place saying he is a bad sport. His day is done, and that is that. Now, if you storm out screaming and pissed off, that is another story.
  11. I just picked up a PWS Wraith for next season. I love just about everything about this rifle. But, I want to replace the Daniel Defense 12” Modular Float Rail with a JP XL VTAC Rail. I like to keep my hand farther out than the DD allows. I am curious what is involved in switching the two, before I order one from JP. The gas block should fit under the handguard just fine. Do I have to remove the gas block or gas tube to do the install? Any advice is appreciated.
  12. You must have learned this from mike wirth at the ironman? I was the RO on the golf cart stage last year. Saw a few people do it, but not nearly as many as I thought would do it. As long as timing the load is not an issue, you should always do it, if not dis-allowed.
  13. For me, there is a magic load. It is a 3.5" magnum turkey load shot from my XtremA. One shot that is not even a perfect hit, will spin it 4 times and it is easily repeatable.
  14. I don't think it is out yet. SWFA and a few others list it on the web site, but it has been listed for a couple months at least. Leupold does not have it up yet and I think it is a month or two more before they start to ship.
  15. Well, I never even considered a 50ae shooting a spinner. I can certainly see that in two shots. When I moved to Idaho, I met the Double Spinner for the first time. Took me 9 shotgun shots to spin it and it took two magazines of .40 in my Glock 35. The next weekend, I purchased a Double Spinner on sale from MGM. That was last winter. This summer, I won the double spinner stage at the MGM Grand Nats. I can consistently spin it with 6 shots shooting .40 major and am able to do it in 5 shots a lot of the time, now. Tripple the bottom and double the top, then it goes over. Miss one of the tripple, still double the top and then one on the bottom and it goes over. I think my best with a glock 34 shooting minor with 124's, is 9 shots and it usually takes me 10 or 11. With a shotgun, as long as buckshot is not banned, I always spin it in one shot. I shot a 3.5" magnum turkey load this summer, in Montana, and it spun the spinner 4 or 5 times with one shot. It was still spinning when I finished the stage, very fun. If buck is not allowed, it always takes me three shots with the shotgun. Although I am far from an expert shooter and if multi-gun had classes, I would put myself in C, I do think I am well above average with the double spinner. It is a very unique target and I think the only real way to get better on it, is to practice shooting it. No amount of shooting paper plates or other things, will help you improve the timing of your shots, and timing is everything with the spinner.
  16. Just shoot any 147's your gun likes. Figuring POI between your load and the 147's is easy enough. BTW: I don't think any handgun will spin the spinner in 2 shots. The fewest I have ever seen is 5, but I suppose 4 might be possible.
  17. Sell the 550 and buy the second primer setup for the 650. I bought it from enos and it makes the switch a lot faster. Or better yet, sell the 550 and buy another 650, just keep the second 650 barebones for now. You should be able to get just the press for the same you will get for your whole 550 setup. Then you can get the casefeeder and other stuff later.
  18. I picked up my brand new custom built limited gun today. Really excited. I tore it down to clean and lube it, so I can run some rounds through it tomorrow. It is built on an STI standard frame. It came with a short recoil rod and it is a bushing barrel. I have never had a gun with a short recoil rod before. What are the differences, advantages and disadvantages or the short and full length recoil rods? Also, since this is a bushing and not a bull barrel, can I run the dawson tool-less rod system and is they any advantage? What about the sti recoil master, would that work? I am just trying to figure out all my options. Next time I talk to him, after I shoot the gun a little, I was planning on asking the builder why they went with a short recoil rod instead of the other options. But, I thought I could try and find some info out on my own. I have the option of having it swapped out for a bull barrel and long wide dustcover frame, if I am not happy with the std frame and bushing barrel. But, the std frame and bushing barrel was available to ship and they wanted to get me something to shoot. Having shot a bull barrel eagle, I should have a pretty good comparison, once I shoot this one. To me and at my skill level, I think the only advantage of the bull barrel and long wide setup, will be the added weight out front and that should reduce felt or perceived recoil. Thanks guys!!!
  19. I tried wearing a rash guard shirt once. Something they wear when surfing. It did not keep me dry. One thing to think about. A base layer of thermals. Then a normal rainsuit over that, one that fits good and breathes under normal conditions. Then a tight fitting shirt and pants over the rain suit. It would keep the rain suit from interfering with shooting, but would keep you dry. The outer layer would get wet, but if you did like a techwear on the outside, it would dry fast. Even if the outer gets soaked, you are still comfortable at skin level. i do not know if it would breathe enough, but might be worth a try as it can be done with what you already own. And since it is probably few and far between when you need to go that extreme, might not be worth spending a lot of money on it.
  20. That shirt better be bionic or make me jump from C to A class, for that price. It is more than I paid for my glock.
  21. Welcome. I think you will find the members here like to help everyone, but juniors in particular get a lot of support. I mentor a new junior and the assistance I have gotten on the forum was awesome. There is a lot of good info here and when you are ready for your AR, be sure to watch the classifieds. You will usually find some really good deals. Many of the vendors that support the forum also provide discounts and deals to forum members.
  22. I think the first thing you need to decide is if you want to shoot tac optics or limited. If limited, I would go with something like an eotech or aimpoint or a clone of one of them. At 200 yards max, limited will be pretty easy. If you want tac optics, then a nice 1-4 like a burris or similar would be good. The two diffent style scopes should be about the same price, so that should not make a difference. If you are new to shooting long guns, then having the 1-4 magnification might make the 200 yard shots a little easier for you. Also, tac optics is very competitive and by far, has a lot more shooters than limited. You may be the only one shooting limited, depending on the size of the match, and that is no fun.
  23. You need a 15V adapter with an 12V output. That is what CED told me when I asked last year. They sell it for $9.95 or you can get one at radio shack. Just bring in the battery to get the right size connector.
  24. Check with EJ Redding. He makes some of the nicest holsters I have ever seen.
  25. I am a lower volume loader than many that have posted already. That said, I use the GRX die on a cheapo used press I got for $40. It works really well and gives you an opportunity to inspect your brass, as you should. But, if it is for a major match or just one that is important to you, case guage is still needed. I can run a few hundred through the GRX in an hour, so it is really not a big deal.
