  1. I bought a 6940 back in 'the panic' of 08'-09' Colt had already switched to small pins by then. I don't see why they would go back to large pins now that they are finally cleaning up their citizen relation problem...
  2. The Summary: IDPA to USPSA = Easy Enough USPSA to IDPA = Gets Tricky
  3. I generally agree on the part on Inov-8s (I have medium width that just barely work with Mudclaws) but the X-Talon 190's are supposed to be a a bit more roomy.
  4. I'd look at the Merrell Mix Master, the New Ballance MT110, and the Inov-8 X-Talon 190. You could also trying browsing the Running Warehouse trail running section. Also you should clarify, are you looking for 'support' or just wide fit. Some people think they are synonymous
  5. You are missing a major component. The A5 runs a longer spring than the carbine length spring. As I understand it, longer springs are more consistent from part to part because the overall strength averages over each coil.

  7. I'd call it legal to take a sight picture prior to each start signal after each 'make ready' or substitute command. If you really want to needle the RO (which I don't advise unless he really needs it), take a sight picture on the "If Finished" before you drop your mag
  8. Any word yet if this 8794 part can be used in Production?
  9. If you think you will win by shooting C's as fast as you can, you won't go far in this sport. Depends on what division you shoot. In Production and SS it's all the same. Seems to me like if you stay in SS/CDP you don't need to buy another gun. If you want to shoot cheaper, you need to get into production or limited to get away from the .45 costs. Edit: I don't mean to come off snarky but I think you should study the different divisions in the IDPA and USPSA rule books and things would be much clearer to you.
  10. The Spartan is not on the USPSA approved production list.
  11. Brass Bullets I get my powder and primers in bulk when our club makes a run. No hazmat.
  12. My holster history: Comp-Tac Belt holster for a HK USP Tactical. They were the only maker that e-mailed me back confirming the sights would fit. Blade-Tech DOH for a CZ Shadow. I was really getting into USPSA, and the DOH seemed about as racy as I could get in production. High Noon IWB leather holster for CZ Shadow. Needed and IDPA and carry holster. Blade-Tech DOH slide holster for a Glock. Switched to Glock after having issues shooting in the cold with an all steel gun. Comp-Tac M-TAC for the Glock. Needed a IDPA and carry holster. Safariland 5187 for a Glock on a 567BL-2-150(1 inch drop). I switched out of the DOH because I wanted to move away from a double belt and DOH sometimes flop around when not on a double belt. So I have my Comp-Tac and Safariland now that both ride on 1.75" Wilderness CSM belt. I'm pretty happy with that, although lately I'm starting to dislike the clips on the Comp-Tac M-Tac so I'm thinking about trying a Cross-Breed.
  13. SOG Aegis is a pretty good assisted opening. Nice and fast. I've had the following knives in this order: Benchmade Mini-Griptilian; best all around for durability and ease of opening. SOG Aegis; Fast opening, was pretty durable. ColdSteel Lawman; very beefy, extra grippy handle (G10), but a little bit slower to deploy. I'm still using the ColdSteel Lawman because I have been remembering to leave it in the car when I fly. The last Benchmade and SOG Aegis were TSA sacrifices. I've had no real complaints about any of the above. All of them fill the role of EDC, it just kinda depends where your priorities are.
  14. I'm going to go 'there' with this. Find a guy with a CZ you can borrow for the afternoon. Spend 100 rounds on the CZ and do a 3 El Prez for score and average them. Spend the next 100 with the G34 then a 3 El Prez for score and average. Which gun can you shoot better with? If that doesn't make you excited to shoot that particular gun I don't know what will. ETA: I came from shooting a CZ Custom Shadow to a Stock Gen4 G17. I may be only a 'B' shooter working my way to an 'A', but the Indian > Arrow adage his holding for me.
  15. Not always, but in your example yes. At a recent match (stage diagram attached) there was 3 hits mandated on each of 6 targets. It called out a mandatory head shot on each target and tactical sequence. So I shot head shots first and body shots the second time through because it would be less transitions. Perfectly legal under that stage description. Hard Times Car-18.doc.pdf
  16. Seems like OSX already comes with Perl, which is the language I used. Paste the code in to a .txt file and rename the file extension to .pl Download the front-sight archive to your hard drive as an html document in the same place as the .pl file call this: perl whateveryounamedtheperlscript.pl whateveryounamedthefrontsightarchive.html This Perl script will work on any html file you download that has links to .pdfs. I could probably fix it to download any kind of file format if that was useful... And now it's official, feature creep time...
  17. Here is a quick example on CM99-24(pdf) and what I expect to run as a B shooter. First string, hands above shoulders facing up range, turn draw 1.5+.3+.5+.3+.5+.3 Second string facing down range hands at sides 1.2+.3+.5+.3+.5+.3 assuming I get all A's that is 60/6.6 = 9.0909 HF and that comes to a 79.66... I'm probably not going to get all A's... But any ways, you can see my point. To get better, where do I need practice? Transitions? Second shot? Draw? There was no mag change but I'm pretty sure that's what's holding back...
  18. That's kinda what I'm thinking. You could pick out a couple of classifiers and break down the splits that the average B, A, M shooters see. That would give a really good metric for people looking to advance their skill but not knowing where to start. We all know that the best way to get better is to practice what sucks, but with a B class shooter it's hard to know which skill sucks the most. A 'breaking the plateau' book is I think what a lot of shooters are looking for... If you want some help at the Iowa Sectional to gather some shooter statistics I'm sure I could convince the crew to help you with your research.
  19. But I couldn't choose which one I wanted to read and didn't want to download all of them by hand... #! /usr/bin/perl -w use strict; use File::Fetch; use Cwd; my $inputfile = $ARGV[0]; open (HTML, "<$inputfile"); while (<HTML>) { my $line = $_; if ($line =~ /href="(http.+?pdf)"/) { print "Attempt fetch of $1\n"; my $filefetch = File::Fetch->new(uri => $1); $filefetch->fetch(to => Cwd::abs_path()) or print $filefetch->error; } } close HTML; Has any one else been as lazy as I?
  20. Practice stages or practice drills? If you want practice stages, steal them from matches, or even use classifiers. If you want specific drills for specific skills: Perfect Practice by Saul Kirsch Competition Handgun Training Drills my Mike Seeklander
  21. The rule book is pretty good and simple to read. www.idpa.us/Docs/IDPA-Scoring-For-Dummies.pdf That link is also a good break down of scoring.
  22. http://www.shootsteel.com/ http://www.drazymetalworks.com/servlet/the-Steel-targets/Categories http://gttargets.com/targetsandbases.htm no particular order...
