  1. Definitely do the trigger upgrade. I’ve been working pretty hard with my X5’s for 18 months, never quite getting the performance in terms of speed and accuracy I have been getting with my custom .45 ACP 1911’s even though it’s minor caliber, and my 1911’s are always run well over 165 PF. I figured that 30 years of carrying really good single actions needed retraining for the relatively crappy trigger on the X5, but I never quite got to where I wanted to be. Dropped in the Grayguns competition kits this week, and boom. Unbelievable difference. For the first time I’m much faster and more accurate on standard drills than I was with ol’ slabsides. Do some homework before going for the tungsten guide rods, a few people have been peening the hell out of their barrel lugs with them.

One can find X-Carries for more than a hundred less than that, so one might argue for having the flexibility of a more concealable pistol with similar feel and ergonomics. I suppose it depends on what you’re doing with it. I have two each Xcarries for defense and Xfives for gaming, and honestly, before I upgraded the Xfive triggers, I was outshooting them with the Xcarries. No contest now with the full Grayguns competition trigger setups in the Xfives, but the Xcarry is an excellent carry piece.
  3. In fact, the desktop version of the site call out a Romeo1PRO. I imagine there’s a certain amount of leakage happening as the website is maintained before the SHOT show.

I purchased two of the Grayguns P320 Competition Trigger System kits a few days ago, they arrived yesterday. The triggers measure out at about 2.75# now, and zero grit or nonlinearity in the pull.

Well, that trigger upgrade job was fast and easy. I retrofitted and tested both my X-5's inside of 15 minutes. That's a tremendous difference in pull weight. One of the two is slightly spongier than the other, but both are pretty good overall.

    X5 Rumor?

Yes, there is a revision 2 on the X5 indicating a slightly bigger optic cut to accommodate the (upcoming) RomeoT1 and DPP. I can't imagine a regular Romeo won't fit as well. Part number has the R2 reference.
  7. Given the fact that this is generally not available, despite the proliferation of X-Fives out there, Occam's Razor tells us that the vast majority of shooters are at least satisfied, if not well-gruntled, with the rear, as issued.

Well, exactly. You could use a hard rubber pad to help mitigate that possibility, or just moderate taps, repeatedly.
  9. You don't need a screwdriver to adjust the X5 rear sight. Just push down (compress the springs) and it will turn with just a fingernail.

Since Dawson makes that rear sight, it might be worth discussing it with them. A custom plate with a dovetail doesn’t seem too outlandish of a concept either.
  11. Those are aluminum- perhaps not worth the effort just for a (relatively) little extra mass. Don’t forget, the polymer is one reason for the shooting characteristics of the platform.

Removing the weight is pretty easy- I just strip the FCU out of the frame and slap the module onto my reloading bench, magwell side up. Works perfectly on all four of my X-Five grip modules. Inertia is our friend.

    X5 Rumor?

So it would appear from the catalog images.
  14. How distant? I'm not trying to hit 6" plates at 50m. IDPA head boxes at 25 yards, no problem. But I should note that red dots in general have been a personal game changer for me on the longer shots, and I'm not playing with irons in gun games so much these days..
  15. No, but I have been a senior product development engineer for a global company for 28 years. That, and nearly 40 years of working on firearms, does inform my opinion slightly. There are ways around the problem, but this is a nontrivial issue.
  16. I’ve had my digital Fluke meter for about 25 years now. Great tool.
  17. By the way, it’s extremely simple to drill out the front sight to .060 and install a larger, more easily available fiber which is much brighter than the stock one. Many of my friends who run the X5 in competition have done this. One of them works for TRUGLO and gave me the idea.
  18. The 2019 catalog specifically calls out 20,000 hours. No setting mentioned. I’ve no doubt the 3 MOA will go at least 8 months of daily carry at three clicks below maximum, havied carried them that way since last January and changing batteries every 6 months. The replaced batteries still measured a good level on my Fluke meter. the 6 MOA is a lot brighter and may not go that long. I’m tracking the two I have for battery life, but they only play a few days a week, mostly dry fire and a weekly range run.

Looks nice but difficult to clear stovepipes. Brass clearing ok? (Yes I know Max uses one.) no obvious changes to the X5 in the catalog but there is a new part number, so something’s different. Perhaps the rumored compatibility with Leupold optic. That implies a slightly longer millout for the optic and therefore slightly longer plate. If I recall correctly it was possible to get a Leupold on the previous X5 by either milling a couple of mm on the muzzle end of the cutout, or modifying the leading edge of the optic. Holes supposedly match up ok.

Yes, I ordered two for my X5’s. Spendy but hopefully worth it.
  21. The tolerances and fitting needed to install the FCU into a steel frame are daunting. You can get away with it on polymer, but the slightest variation in FCU dims and things get ugly fast.
  22. Makes sense for what is ostensibly a service pistol.
  23. Misleading headline. SIG put the catalog up for download more than 18 hours ago. Not “leaked”. also, there’s nothing about that pistol description that says anything about keeping the rear sight - that is the same plate as before.

Well, for one thing, there’s an FDE version. Bleagh.

    SIG 365

I suppose it's obvious by now, as the videos and images and specs have been unveiled, that the G43X is nothing like a 365. Completely different size class, closer to a G19.
