  1. Listen to Benny you should I had the same rifle...turned the barrel down to .750, straight fluted it under the handguard, spiral fluted it forward (just cosmetic, really, but it did look cool)... RRA uses an odd height upper, so I had them send me one of their ".750" gas blocks to match it. And of course put optics on it like a wimp instead of irons like a real man Alex
  2. Just my luck, I'm supposed to leave for Germany on the 10th of April...darn it... While I would enjoy the trip to the land of decent beer and great wurst, I would like to shoot! Alex
  3. Looking forward to the match! Actually, I'm loking forward to getting back home next month, but right about the time I am supposed to be back at work...time to go to Benning Alex
  4. You can send the scope back to Burris and ask them to put 'hunter' knobs on it to replace the huge target knobs. I like the scope a lot better with the flush and capped knobs Alex
  5. The new one is shorter, lighter, and has a better reticle...however, it seems to be milled out of a piece of unobtanium by elves I was really impressed by the one I handled at SHOT...last January... IMO: Learn to shoot iron's now and wait, or buy a Z6i Alex
  6. Last year's IRON MAN had three prop guns in one (blind) stage, and two prop guns in an open stage. Awesome. The key is reliable, accurate is the shooter's problem Alex
  7. Wish someone would post a picture for those of us a very long way from their mail boxes... In other words, this thread is useless without pictures Alex
  8. No problem. Liota teaches Texas Concealed Carry courses, too. $5 for military, borrow our guns or use your own Alex
  9. You could tell her to look up "Wakal, Liota" on the global at work...we bring fellow military folks out to Stately Wakal Manor regularly, and have a range behind the shop with most of the good stuff up to and including Texas Stars. Liota doesn't get on the BEForum much these days. Plenty of guns to borrow, and Liota is also a multi-rated instructor with a lot more patience (and pleasant personality) than I have Alex Bagram
  10. Cheap and easy. ACE hardware sells 12" pieces of brass, 1/2" by 1/8". Roll the ends over, fold it in half, then tape it to the side of the magazine so the bend is at the bottom, clip up. Works like a big pocket knife clip, deep enough to go in your pocket and not bounce out. If you are really bored, you can color code the magazines by using different color electrical tape Alex
  11. They told me at SHOT last year that I could get one...but then couldn't figure out how to place the order for that model. Go figure. Wonder if they will actually be for sale? Alex
  12. Taking over one of the missions here is more fun than others...dropped off toys and coloring books for kids in "distressed" regions. Just added the local hospital to our route...pretty sad dealing with kids burned, scarred, and missing limbs due to the Islamists actions against their own people. Nice to make them smile with something as simple as stuffed toys. Incidently, if anyone wants to send stuffed toys down here, my address is: Alex Wakal PRG 6-1-3 APO AE 09354-3005 I'll be here through November, so no hurry. Alex
  13. Taran Butler seems happy with his shotgun Alex
  14. Hard copy (available October 2010): http://www.baen.com/author_catalog.asp?author=lcorreia Soft copy...there was a link to the ARC release on Larry's website. I can't get to that website from here (because "chat" sites are blocked...ah...this is a training site, I guess ) Alex
  15. "Soft" copies of the second book are available...another good read Alex
  16. SVI used to buy STI grips (and mill the STI logo off). Now that the terms of the agreement have expired, STI no longer sells grips to SVI. IIRC, the grip molds had an insert that could mold SV logos into the grip (over the STI logos), but they caused problems so they discontinued that practice years ago. Anyway, seems that SVI thinks it is cheaper to machine metal grips than it is to have a set of injection molded grip dies fabricated Alex
  17. With all the gang bangers running around in (faux) coppie cars, (faux) SWAT gear, doing "pull over and rape" games and home invasions whilst all geared up, the attitude toward cops having their way "in the name of officer safety" doesn't fly well anymore. Nor does instant Officer Arrogant as soon as The Public dares to be seen with a gun. Alex
  18. Just ran into Lee and Daniel in the chow hall here in Bagram a few hours ago...they are on the way back tomorrow (and so it is time to hit them with questions ) Alex
  19. Liota and I saw it yesterday...very amusing, and well worth the price of admission. You MUST stay all the way through the credits, too... Alex
  20. Merlin, a guy of your stature can pocket carry a Desert Eagle...that KelTec P3AT must be your watch fob Alex
  21. Easy question. Original invented by Terry Ashton, sold as the Texas Star. Best latch system available, can be set up for .22 (or Cowboy Action) as well as the standard springs for center fire/full power cartridges. Downside: not rifle grade. The San Angelo club is still using the prototype after almost ten years, and it still works fine. MGM's is all rifle grade steel. The latch system is OK, and Mike was polite enough to talk to Terry before producing his own design based on Terry's original pattern. Like all of Mike's targets, of course, his star is solid like rock and well worth the money. There R other versions, but the latch system on those sucks and the company that makes them just ripped off Terry's design and claimed "innovation" on an vastly inferior product. One hit often gives multiple plates as the latches fail due to poor construction. Garbage. My advice: Texas Star for general use, MGM for rifle grade, and avoid anything else like the post-binge spew it is Alex
  22. But will there be Bloodwine, Chech'tluth, Gagh, and Mot'loch? A multigun match in Texas with decent rules AND a 3-gunner for a match director? What a concept! Glad I'll be back in time to shoot it Alex
