  1. What kind of capacity is everyone getting out of their magazines with various pads?
  2. I am finally going to take a step out of the production realm with my G22 and I was wondering what basepads are working best for folks in limited/open. Overall reliability is of the utmost importance but I am also looking for the highest capacity. Looking forward to everyone's feedback...
  3. Every large corporation that conducts any business affected by the weather usually consults a forecaster before making any longterm (3-6 months) decision. Retailers are one of the most notable....For instance, A Walmart store in OK wants to know how soon to stock winter clothes if it's going to get cold earlier than usual. My point is, maybe USPSA and USSA should think about consulting a specialist about possible locations and time periods to conduct matches/training. Maybe there is a shooter or two that could "point them in the right direction". As for the comment about 1 hour of rain....I made that comment and was referring to "IKE". I know it rained on the first day of the match, and several times after that...leading up to about 1 hour of rainfall directly related to the tropical system known by the same name as the one that was less than cordial to Tina! I would appreciate it if noone ever again referred to Tulsa, OK as being in the path of Hurricanes again.....that's just silly
  4. I'm going to go out on a limb here and figure that USSA doesn't make enough money from this venue to make landscaping decisions based on our feedback. I don't know what they make on this match but would bet that it doesn't even compare to 3-4 agencies renting parts of the range for a 5-day work week.
  5. The hurricane only contributed to about 1 hour of "match rain". We finished most of the shooting before any major impacts. You can pick your poison with Oklahoma. Spring and summer bring wicked thunderstorms that are fairly unpredictable and it can get damned hot. Winter can get ridiculously cold (so can fall for that matter, just ask anyone who shot during the morning in 2006!). The rain wasn't the biggest impact to shooting, it was the mud pit as a result of the rain. The range doesn't drain well and sod is a bad idea. USSA needs to invest in gravel or maybe astroturf on a 12" high platform!!
  6. We (squad 34) didn't get the word to show at 1000. I had planned on showing about that time but we probably won't have much of our squad there. Maybe the motivation of the ROs to knock this match out will get us shooting early, full squad or not!
  7. Us Glock guys don't have to worry about that, or water on our scopes! And I know for a fact that there is no such thing as waterproof combat boots!
  8. Greg shot through yesterday evening.....He was not having a good match at all. I shot with him last year when he put 11 in the mag for an unloaded gun start and found himself shooting in limited! I thought you went to open if you don't meet division requirements. Has this changed in the recent rule book? It was the LPR Nationals and no open division....I think they may have made an exception, which they should! That was Greg's first big match in production and he still placed well shooting limited minor. He never loaded his mags all the way either!
  9. Greg shot through yesterday evening.....He was not having a good match at all. I shot with him last year when he put 11 in the mag for an unloaded gun start and found himself shooting in limited!
  10. I just had a flashback to the NCO academy where they tell us that, as managers, it is our job to implement change by convincing the people we manage that "the change is good and they will like it". In most cases, this is the right way for managers to think and behave. However, there are exceptions. I think we sometimes get ahead of ourselves with technology. We aren't gaining anything in the ability to initially score the targets...we are taking a step back.
  11. Umm...not from what I saw today. It might just be growing pains. Like I said in another thread, I run with the most up to date (high speed) equipment when I am working but I always have a back up that doesn't rely on volts! Those back ups spend more time being primary than you could imagine. I don't see what we gain by using the Palm to get the initial score...except for saving paper. But....I have the argument covered as well. Why not take the initial score on acetate with a permanent marker. Dry erase wouldn't work because it could get brushed and wiped away. Permanent marker, or even grease pencil can still be wiped off, alcohol for the marker or a simple cloth for the grease pencil. Now we are being "GREEN" and keeping it simple!
  12. With as much time as it takes to navigate the shooter list and pull up the right one, score the targets and transfer the total to paper......they could still score the targets on paper and then transfer the scores to the palm. It means 1. A lot less changes to the previous format 2. An instant hard copy backup (and as mentioned, you can see what is being recorded in real time) 3. Less time time saying "hold on, I am not done scoring the last shooter". I am in no way blaming the ROs for not being quick enough (I just bought a smart phone that is smarter than me and it took me 5 minutes to add a new phone number!). I just think the system they are using isn't efficient enough. If the scores were recorded on paper the score keeper could go take the time to electronically enter the score while the next shooter was getting ready/shooting. If there was a snag, there is already a paper backup on hand and the shooting can go on. Just my $0.02
  13. I think when you do the simple math, you have to throw out 19. If you get all of your shots on target and hit 3 "D"s your down $3 but your up 3 points over the shooter that didn't even shoot the last 3 rounds, or just missed the target completely. It's either that, or you count all of the NPMs for the entire match and the shooter that has a malfunction on stage 19 accumulates at least $4 for a non-shooting related problem.
  14. Sharyn, I did overlook your volunteerism and I apologize for stepping on your toes!! I probably got caught up in reading all the rules debate that I passed over it. It would be great if you took this to task as I will probably be knee deep in my own problems and trying to keep track of what I will owe! So count me in to play and I'll let you have it. Thanks, Edwin
  15. Surely they are still going to hand out paper score sheets How else could you verify your scores when the prelims are posted? Furthermore, I love technology, but I have a back up for everything that relies on volts. Just ask Aaron Hampton If we get paper score sheets, we could just drop the score on the "targets" that disappear as opposed to dropping the entire stage. On the score sheets I have seen there is an extra block by the exact target that allows the scorekeeper to add in the NPM for total stage rounds accountability. I still say that stage 19 should be out.
  16. I agree on no-penalty mikes....you could have a malfunction just prior to exposure and some of those targets can be too fast for newer shooters. I also agree that stage 19 should be out completely.
  17. OK...if no one else is going to roger up for LPR then I'll take it! But if I am going to run this I will open up a constructive rules debate until Saturday morning. We will need the names of everyone that wants to participate by Saturday night (exact cutoff time TBD). Below are a few of the rules that need to be determined: -cost of "D" hits -stage 19 in or out -bail out option If you guys can think of anything else let me know...let's get this nugged out and start the trash talk. I will be the lone Air Force Team member, Squad 13 shooting Production. Edwin
  18. I have run the full spectrum of overuse injuries to include tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder separation, etc. and have found no better tool for any "finger to shoulder" injury than a Gyro Ball. Originally developed for tennis elbow injuries, the Gyro Ball quickly caught on in the rock climbing industry to increase grip strength. That was my original intent when I bought mine. I went from climbing 2" ropes to climbing 9mm rappel ropes in 6 weeks by using the Gyro Ball and increasing my grip strength. I found out what the thing was actually designed for and recommended it to my dad for his arthritis in his wrist. He noticed improvement in just a few weeks. I have had always had a problem with carpal tunnel syndrome and any time I have a flare up I just use the Gyro Ball for a week and it goes away. I have also experienced what seems to be tendinitis in my tricep just behind my elbow as you have described and have had great results using this thing. The best place to find them is REI but I am pretty sure there are other outdoor/mountaineering companies that sell them I just thought I would throw my $.02 in there. If nothing else, your grip strength will improve!
  19. Don't forget about Canada just across the lake!!
  20. I would like to add one of the benefits that I became aware of on the Warren/Sevigny sights is the "sharpness" of the sight picture. I believe Scott actually designed to sights to have a really sharp sight picture that would draw your eyes to it. I have done a side by side comparisson with some of the students I teach and they noticed an immediate difference in sight picture with the W/S sights over the factory Glock night sights. We have started to put these sights on our guns for that reason and also the "straight eight" night sight configuration offered. Just my $.02
  21. I just bought one of these yesterday and then spoke with Steve at S&J to find out about all the problems. I guess finding out after I bought it isn't as bad as finding out after I shot it!
  22. Absolutely ridiculous IMHO! I can't believe that USPSA would actually split up HM Aren't we being forced enough PC crap in our society? Who are we trying to accommodate with this change? I understand the fact that there are a lot of ways to "skin a cat" but WTF? I don't even know how many divisions you could shoot at a USPSA 3-gun match anymore. Where's Kyle with his bottom line rules and practicality? I sure do miss his matches...and never once complained about the way he ran them! At least you knew from the get go exactly what you were getting into!
  23. Rumor has it that both TGO and Dave are shooting production.....they probably came to some agreement since they both took each other's titles last year, but who's to say I seem to remember Bob Vogel coming on real strong in production last year so I wouldn't count him out either. Who knows what's going to happen!!!
  24. The lowest sight combo I have come up with is the Novak rear w/ a trimmed down Hienie front. I use the Custom Glock Racing .090 front sight and then trim it down to match the rear sight. I prefer sights that are very precise and show the slide if the the gun is even slightly nose high. I started with this combo because I had switched from a 1911 and had a problem with presenting the Glock a little high. The rear sight is .195" high. Hope this helps!
  25. I wouldn't say the thread drifted too much since PLINK has asked for a wide variety of advice. I have been shooting Glocks for the past ten years and have seen many "myths" come and go. There are a few that I can confirm from my own experiences. 1. You don't need to add a great deal of weight to the Glock to make it shoot flatter, just hang on a little tighter! The grip angle in designed to help the shooter reduce recoil on their own. 2. Glock's unsupported bbl isn't that weak. I had the opportunity to fire a 205gr cast lead bullet through a Glock 35 (after about 3K) across a chrono. The one round in particular happened to be double charged! The brass was Winchester and the powder was Universal Clays. The bullet crossed the chrono at 1175fps! And the only thing I had to show for it was a confused looked and a swollen case! The case may have been pregnant but it was completely intact and so was the gun. 3. Contradictory to #2 I have had 4 case head separations(CHS) in a Glock with varying degrees of loads, though none of them were ever double charged again! All CHS's occurred with PMC brass. There might be a trend there, but I'm no expert. 4. I shot L10 with my G22 last year and used the Storm Lake bbl. The accuracy was excellent and the bbl dropped right in. The only thing I lost was about 30fps over the factory bbl. Accuracy between the two was negligible. If I was shooting all quality brass through the gun (even with major loads) I would just stick with the factory bbl and save yourself some money and velocity. By quality brass I mean starline, remington, or winchester. I don't have a lot of experience with the rest so I can't speak on them. 5. If you like the Glock sights you might want to look into the heinie as well as the CGR .090 front. It gives a very precise sight picture. I couldn't deal with the Dawsons because they were way too high and too damn sharp! 6. I reload using the EGW die. It doesn't work well for all cases when it comes to my 1911's but I have never had a problem with any loads in the Glock. I can't speak for some of the aftermarket bbls though. Just my opinion.
