  1. I have been "ghost loading" my S90 for a few years now and it is unmodified! It takes some figuring out, but once you get the sequence down, it's easy and you don't have to modify the gun. Maybe since my S90 is about 8 years old that could have something to do with it. If you try and put the extra round on the carrier with the bolt all the way to the rear, it won't work. But here is how I load the ninth round on my 18.5": 1. Load the chamber and the tube giving you 7+1 2. Pull the bolt back and keep the round coming out of the chamber from ejecting. Just keep it in the ejection port and it will fall onto the carrier. 3. Let the bolt come forward about 1/2" (you will still have room to place that shell under the bolt. 4. With the bolt still only 1/2" from the rear, put your ninth and final round in the chamber. 5. Keep pressure on the round that is on the carrier and let the bolt forward. 6. Woillaa....9 rounds in the short Benelli I just did this about three times in a row to make sure I had the steps down. If anyone has any questions or discrepencies with this technique let me know. Edwin P.S. With so many versions of that queer word being posted, I decided to use a combo!
  2. Jerry, -I am not sure if the chamber has any imperfections -I do have the o-ring and the little plastic cylindrical piece in with the spring -I am using Match ammo as well as some reloads that I used brand new Federal Gold Metal Match brass to make -the problem is consistent with all mags -the gas rings are in great shape BTW, John at JP left me a message saying that he had heard about me having problems again. I tried calling today and wasn't able to get in touch with him, but I will try again and maybe we can come up with a solution. He said that he got it to work, so maybe we can eliminate all the other possibilites.
  3. Jerry, Thanks for the info....I remember that you had similar problems. I took all of the measurements that Armalite recommended and couldn't find any discrepancies. I think there is something else going on that has to do with the lower or the mags. Edwin
  4. I think we may be onto something here with the mag springs....I built those mags with the extra power, cut-to-length Wolff springs. I have been looking at the bolt carrier and it is coated with brass on the bottom...there are two lines, one on each side of the bottom where the hammer rides. The brass is pretty deeply embedded and it inicates some definite friction! I still am not sure when or how the actual ejection process takes place and I think knowing that could shed some light on the friction aspect of the bolt carrier. Even the two bottom fins of the bolt have brass on them. Any ideas? Thanks, Edwin
  5. Yeah......and you could smoke a bowl of crack and forget you ever said that!
  6. Well, to get more in-depth with the problem I am having: -the extraction completes up to the ejection, but doesn't complete that. -I also find the extraction process in several different modes of incompletion -the bolt actually goes back enough to start feeding the next round, so this compounds the FTE. -I have tried the heavier springs in the extractor and I know that the little plastic piece is in place. -as I said before, the upper has been sent back to JP and he said he got it to run about 60 rds without a problem. He said that he had to try about 5 different combos of parts in the bolt/extractor assembly to get it to work. This does not make me feel any better! -the problem isn't consistent...I can run 5 rounds without a problem and then can't run the next 3 without having to clear a jam everytime. -the one time that I can't duplicate the problem is when I fire the last round in the mag.....the round ejects fine and the bolt is locked to the rear. I think it would help me to know more about the extraction process of the AR style rifle. I am not sure what initiates the ejection process. I know the gas system is tuned to allow enough gas by to cycle the action because the bolt locks back everytime on the last round. If anyone can shed some light on this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. The amount of money I have spent on this rifle is sickening, considering that is doesn't work! I know that all of the parts in the bolt carrier assembly come from Armalite and this has been a problem in the past, but they are no help since I didn't get the upper from them. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will try and find someone to fix this. BTW, I have used several types of ammo to no avail. I mainly have been shooting M852 (168 match). Edwin
  7. I am having some issues with my AR10 not extracting. I have the JP 16" Upper on the gun. After the problem first started happening, I sent it back to JP and he worked on it until he found the right combo of parts (bolt, extractor, etc.) that let the rifle extract. I have taken the rifle to the range twice now and am still having the same problems. I am wondering if there could be a problem with my mags, or anything other component that would cause this problem. I would like to just send the entire package to someone and have them make it run. I just can't keep having these problems for what I paid on that upper Thanks, Edwin
  8. I would second the PRI vote on light weight. I just installed one on my AR10 and that thing is almost half the weight of the JP that was originally on it! It is a very well made handguard, looks great and feels great. It just costs more than I think it is worth! But that is my opinion and I would probably buy another one Edwin
  9. yeah...I knew there were some companies out there making 30 rounders for the M14. Does anyone know which of these mag companies produces a usable mag and what you might have to do to them to make them work? I found some more for about the same price from Wholesale Hunter, I think they are made by National Magazine.
  10. What do ya'll think the potential impacts would be if I were to lighten the bolt carrier and reduce the amount of buffer spring. This would seem to allow me to run less gas through the gun. I would think that the comp should start to take over with more as through the system, especially if I lightened the reciprocating mass....I just don't want to negatively affect reliability. This has been an issue in the past due to Armalite's fantastic machine work on bolts and extractors. Going to a different bbl length is out of the question right now, seeing as to what I paid for the 16". Thanks for the help, Edwin
  11. I am still trying to work all the bugs out of my AR10 system and have run into another one. I have the JP Lightweight 16" upper on my rifle. Obviously, being a JP rifle, it has the adjustable gas system. I would like to hear what small bullet (125-150) loads you guys have come up with to maximize the gas system and reduce recoil. I am currently running some M852 (168 match) through the gun and it is fairly hard to control during rapid fire. I also have a question for the "Gas" experts out there, if there are such people . How will a lighter bullet, say 125@3100fps, affect the gas system? The reason I ask is because I have to adjust the set screw on the gas block pretty far out with the 168s to make the gun function realiably. I am wondering if the lighter bullet loads will produce more gas to help with functioning. As you can see I am fairly ignorant to the whole AR10 mystique and I would like to get this gun running realiably and effeciently. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  12. While I can imagine that Camp Perry has slowed CLE down, the reference that Paradox made was inexcuable. I ordered two bbls of the same make in late April and had confirmation that they were in the works. I was deployed at the time and wasn't too worried about timliness. I finally called last week (August 4th) and asked about the bbls' status. I was told that they hadn't been started on and probably wouldn't be for at least another week or so. I obviously had to cancel the order and will get the bbls from somewhere else. So....while I can understand that CLE may have been busy for Camp Perry, that doesn't explain why I waited over three months for two bbls that hadn't even been started on and I was never informed of the status.
  13. You're Gay! J/K I will check out the buffer technologies mag cinches. I know that someone out there is making a cheap thirty rounder. I saw a few people using them at the '03 Nationals on their AR10s. I am not sure if anyone has been able to make them reliable and that is the info I am after.
  14. I am gathering my gear to switch from .223 to .308 and am wondering about options for mag holders, cinches, 30 rounders, etc. for the .308. I have already ordered two mag pouches from David Brown, which I think will work out well. I am really wondering if anyone has had any luck with 30 rounders. I would also like to know if there are mag cinches out there for these mags. I seem to make my best reloads when I have two mags strapped together. If anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Edwin
  15. I am going to have to agree with George there. I don't know of any buckshot that will bounce back....though they are selling rubber buckshot nowadays. I have always found "OO" more reliable when taking on steel. I think it is mostly a personal preference. This is especially true for me since I am shootin an HK S90 W/18.5"bbl and no choke
  16. I know alot of people don't use it anymore but I have had the best luck with any low or normal recoil buckshot on large poppers and far steel. Does anyone have a line on where to get large quantities cheap? I have run out of Estate Low Recoil and would like to either find that or a good alternative. Any help would be great. Thanks, Edwin
  17. In my experience, without exception, trigger freezing, or any sort of slow, erratic, trigger finger movements were always the result of excess tension, caused by (usaully unconsciously) rushing, or trying to go fast. Just like every typing mistake. be <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This does make sense.....imagine that! I don't really think it has to do with grip pressure or not seeing what I need to see for the shot to go. I have actually been battling a weak grip pressure from shooting some bullseye on the side (which has helped my accuracy a great deal!) I do notice that I am sometimes trying to go faster than parts of my body want to. I have had times where I get frustrated in the middle of a "hose fest" on a stage because my eyes see what they need to and I can't even swing the gun fast enough. I know that my eyes are the fastest part of the body and I feel confident that I am using them properly to communicate with my mind. I think the rest of me just needs to catch up. Thanks for all the replies....especially benos. I guess there isn't a quick fix, I will just keep shooting and let everything match up in the end!
  18. Dude, that's a different finger and it works plenty fast. Get your mind out of the gutter!
  19. I understand what you are saying and I agree...I can't shoot what my eyes don't see. The problem I am having is that my eyes see that I need to pull the trigger on the second shot (I am only having problems with splits on target) but there is a problem with my finger. I haven't timed any splits lately, but I can only do .2 or below every now and then. I am one classifier away from my "M" card in Production and I don't want to get there with a problem like this. It is pretty frustrating when I am trying to pull the trigger and my finger just doesn't want to cooperate!
  20. I have started to notice a trend with my trigger finger (right handed) that is starting to cost me time on stages. I noticed some with 1911s and it is very prevelant with the Glock I am shooting in prod. Not only can I not pull the trigger fast enough, but I am getting hang fires. I just bought the Deep 6 Comp trigger reset practicing piece from Glockmeister and have been practicing not only reset but splits with my 35. They aren't good and I don't know what to do to make them better. This has been a problem in the past with Glocks (up to 4 years ago). I decided to see just how fast my left trigger finger was (I shoot rifles left handed because I am cross dominant) and I was suprised to see that my splits were much faster and I had a lot less hang fires (not letting the trigger fully reset). I feel like my right finger is not letting out "enough" fast "enough". Are there any exercises I can do to speed up the pull and reset with my right hand. I know it really isn't my reflexes, it is just my finger getting locked up (regardless of grip pressure). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  21. I am not sure how you are replicating the recoil of a full power .45 with an alloy framed 9mm. I shot an alloy framed single stack .45 at the nationals last year and I felt that the pistol was just as controllable as any steel gun. It swung alot better too. I am curious as to how you came to this conclusion, because I am thinking about building more alloy framed guns.
  22. I have an idea...since we already have five divisions, why don't we have one for each gun manufacturer? I don't think USPSA is ever going to please everybody in this sport....it is a "sport". I can understand that some like to shoot a pistol that is very comfortable to them, but that pistol not being competitve is not a valid reason for inclusion in another division. The days of "run what you brung" are over! If you want to compete and be competitive, you have to keep up with the equipment race. Otherwise, just come out to have fun! I remember the days when guys were pulling their Master card with single stacks. I ran one at the nationals in L10 and everybody thought I was crazy. From what I have heard, talking to certain people, L10 was meant to be a single stack division from the beginning. They just never made the rules state that. I could be wrong. If this provisional division works out, maybe L10 will go away! I think it should....although the sunset of the AWB was less than a year ago. L10 just seemed to be a cross between Production and Limited. If you're running a fat gun, load the thing up and step up! I hope to see this new division take off and we can all have a blast with the guns that started this whole revolution. Regardless, I will still shoot my single stack in L10.
  23. I have my own little story to add on glocks and KB's......I have had two case head seperations in a G35 and G23 (one in each). Both cases were PMC and each time this happened, the magazine was blown out of the magwell and the extractor hit me in the face (right in the shooting glasses, so wear them!) At the time I was reloading on a single stage press and I am sure that the loads were not over pressured (at least from a powder standpoint). I was shooting 200gr lead bullets and just cleaned the bbl regularly (every 1k or so). I started loading on a friend's 1050 and wasn't real familiar with how it worked. One day I just happened to be shooting over a chrono after a match. On about the 7th round, my Glock sounded like a .44 Magnum and the recoil nearly sent the pistol into my forehead The first thing everyone did was looked at the velocity of that howitzer round I just touched off! 1182fps for a 200gr bullet.....that's a 236PF After the numbness in my hands had subsided we decided to look for the fired case (or what we thought might be left of it!) Nothing came apart on the gun and, after a short time searching, we found the abused case on the ground. I would say that the case had certainly been traumatized; however, it was still whole.....it just looked 9 months pregnant! This particular case was a Winchester model. I guess the moral of the story is, know your reloading equipment, if you're going to use lead bullets, don't use PMC brass, and if you like really, really, hot loads....use Winchester brass. Oh yeah, Glocks are tough!
  24. 300lbGorilla, Yes that was string....I wasn't going to change the way I turned for the second string! I was much smoother going L to R, but as stated earlier, I think I will do more dry fire practice on this and see how the other direction works out. I feel that the match conditions (increased stress) may have led to my uncomfortable feeling going R to L. My left eye seems faster at picking up the targets but my hands just weren't keeping up!
  25. These are all very good points...especially the one about body motion and momentum. I never really thought of that! I am suprised that there hasn't been more research as to what direction our eyes are faster. BTW, I tried to shoot R to L on "Front Sight" at this weekend's match.....it didn't go so well. I was really uncomfortable and the results weren't easy to figure out. I think when my dominate eye picks up the target first, it has a hard time jumping back to the sights. I am going to experiment with this some more. Thanks for all the replies.
