  1. Mine is blued not hard chrome. I'm more keen on altering the slide stop rather than the lugs as I would like the old slide stop to still work as a spare. I think altering the lugs would make it dedicated for the nitrofin alone. I still like the idea that I can use the old slide stop to work in case I ever need it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. stand corrected, re-measured the original slide stop pin and its 0.191 and the nitro fin is 0.199.
  3. The original STI slide stop pin measuring with a caliper is 0.196 with the nitro fin measuring 0.199. Does that mean I need to reduce it to the STI measurements and it should then work fine? It did however go through the barrel link and the frame with ease so I thought this would have been within tolerance?
  4. I bought a new nitro fin slide stop for my STI Edge. I thought it would be a drop in part but apparently needs some work as the gun wont go all the way into battery as if something is holding it up. I manage to install the slide stop and can rack the slide and it does go forward but doesnt go into full battery leaving about 1/4 inch before closing up. I have removed the SS (slide stop), field stripped the gun and this is what I find: a. Frame and slide only with slide stop - it goes through wel b. barrel link and slide stop goes through fine. All together, it appears it would not go full battery. What is the fix here? Should I get some sand paper and try to sand down the slide stop pin? Any input appreciated. Cheers
  5. I did it with the ambush technique so shot the left most in order going to the right. You can see though that I was not fast enough before it disappeared. Some engaged the middle ones first then the left and right most. Not too successful in my squad as they ended with mikes. Didn't see how the GM'a did it but I can see your point Bill. 6. Unfortunately those that got it at 4.5 seconds were in a different squad. Most in my squad waited and those that engaged it while it was heading out ended up with 1-2 n/s targets. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Yeah, I kinda waited for the whole array to open up and stop before engaging. I always followed a rule, which I learned from video by Todd Jarrett, to basically "ambush" the target instead of engaging while swinging the gun (tracking).
  8. This one threw my wits out the window as I honestly did not have a strong plan when I was called to the line.I honestly think this is my worst stage ever during the match. I finished this at 8.4 seconds with poor shot placements, majority in the D's, only one A and 2 C's. Didnt hit a N/S (a relief!). It was high risk and yes, there were a few that simply had a zero on this stage. The very top guys got this at 4.5 seconds.
  9. So fast burning is better. On another note, have you guys been experiencing muzzle flash? Just a noob question but does muzzle flash denote a very high pressure load - or doesnt matter. I just find that my pistol is a fire breather than others....
  10. Believe me, that there were others who got that in one pass (not me).... I just thought if it was worth it to say take two mikes (instead of re-engaging it on its next run) and take the faster time.
  11. I need some post match thoughts on a stage I've encountered. My question is simple: Would you shoot for points or shoot for time? Obviously it is best to shoot a stage for both but sometimes if you miss, the question becomes is it worth to shoot at it again to gain points but loose time or take your short time together with lower points. In this example, the GM's are able to take all A's in one pass. I'm no GM... Let me upload a video link (havent done this before - so hopefully it works below)
  12. I am not sure if this is the right forum so bear with me... I load 40 S&W for IPSC shooting and so far have been using fast powders, such as Win231 and Titegroup which gives a snappy recoil. I havent had the opportunity to use slower burning powders and had me wonder if the slower burning powder tend to make softer shooting whilst achieving the desired power factor. Has anyone used slow burning ones such as Win540/ HS6? Which would be better - fast or slow and what would be the advantage over the other? Would appreciate any thoughts.... Thanks
  13. Great to know. So it's all normal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Thanks bountyhunter. That is exactly what I am experiencing. No reliability issue arising and as you said, it does have the tension when there is a round. I guess I will leave it for now.
  15. +1 extractor tension is too stiff.
  16. I've got an STI Edge 40 in which the extractor is somewhat loose in the sense that if you point the pistol downwards, you can hear a tiny "tick" and if I point it upwards it does it again. Upon inspection, the extractor appears to be kinda loose that there is a very tiny play forward and backward. Having said that, it has not jammed on me for over 1000 rounds now since I found this out and the tension seems to be adequate that when I slip in a loaded round from under the slide (gun in field strip), and I try to wiggle the slide, the live round will not fall off, though it ever so slightly moves. The point however is that it appears it has adequate tension. I do have a spare extractor but it hasnt yet been tuned on the pistol and with no tools available, it would be guess work for me. My question, should I be concerned going into a major match with such an extractor? I kinda agree with the saying if it aint broke, why fix it. It hasnt failed me as yet and if it does, I do have a spare but its one that I have yet to tune for a proper tension. Anyone experience this sort? The extractor is still the original STI extractor. Havent considered the AFTEC yet and there is no time to get that done prior to the major match I a preparing for anyway.
  17. Good to know. Any indication that it will accept sti mags? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I think ipsc requires 3 rounds and if you fail, they will get 1 more and average out the 4. If the 4th doesn't make it high enough, then it's going to be minor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. The 3rd lot was low due to 1 round being really light so the average dropped for a 5 shot string. The 1st and 2nd lots were ok but that just got me worried. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I think I have raised too much speculation here already which was not what I have intended to do. I do not know if the people present in the conversation were people who have the powers to make the changes but they did not appear to be competitors. Did not intend to stray off topic too much here and did not want to fire the flames of the rumor mill as I had thought it to be a topic talked around the community already... So apologies to the person who created the thread. I think I better stop making further comments on rule and stay on topic which is what is the better platform, 9mm or 38 super.... :-)
  21. I thought that this was common knowledge in the grapevine??? I just heard the argument during the WS saying that in open class, the GMs normally get A's anyway so whether minor or major won't really matter... Let me stress that this was just hearsay and what I understood is that this is being talked about. Of course nothing official presently and it never is until the rules are formally reviewed and passed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Not being off topic here but somewhat relevant, I thought there is a move to remove major and minor in open anyway which means that the 9mm will be a better platform to shoot. Cheap to run. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
