  1. New barrels are carbon steel....... Talked to the custom shop today, seems they chose a non-heavy 9mm chamber barrel profile but wanted to keep a standard bushing (hence the taper). still don't get it.......... TR
  2. Thanks SS............. The Colt set-up was known for it's thin barrel and non-standard bushing bushing set-up. Does anyboby know the diameter at the taper for the Springfield taper barrel?........bet it's close to that Colt barrel..... TR
  3. Hmmmm......2001 gun's had full profile ramped barrel's? I heard the same explanation regarding the use of the 45 ACP bushing as well........ I would think caliber (bore ID) would not affect bushing size. Full profile 9mm/38 Super or .40 barrel's simply have a heavier profile with a reduced bore diameter in those calibers and lock up with a standard barrel bushing because the barrel OD would be the same.....or maybe I'm missing something? Kimber's 38 Super and .40 guns have full profile barrels and standard bushings, as well Nowlin and SVI for 9mm......all with ramps. I don't have the gun as I'm shopping as well. Kinda pissing me off. Think I'll call Springfield. TR
  4. Why the full profile barrel at the bushing, tapering to thin back to the locking lugs?......and with no integral ramp? Good set-up or bad and why? Anybody have one of these that they can comment on? TR
  5. I suspect that the Hornaday 147 XTP is what you might be looking for....... TR
  6. Ditto on the Clays. FAR exceeds N310, N320, WST and Titegroup for softest shooting (for 125 PF). I load 3.4 with jacketed and 3.2 with lead @ 1.180 OAL for a Kimber Target. Both loads make about 130 PF. The caution with Clays is not to load too tight to minimum PF due to it's variability, a curiosity in itself as accuracy for my loads are fine. TR
  7. Flex......... When I was shooting 45 in CDP, I liked 5.2 ish with Berry's 200 RS @ 1.190 for about 168 PF. In 40 I'm loading 4.5 ish with lead (ugh) 180's @ 1.160, bumping it up maybe .1 or .2 for Star 180 FMJ-FP's......both make about 168-170 PF. In my experience, given the same power factor, WST shoots softer than N320 and Titegroup in that order. Titegroup is awesome powder (I call it the 21st century Bullseye) but too snappy. N320 is not as snappy but emits lots of distracting sparks from the muzzle and does nothing WST and Titegroup can't given it's expense and availability. The listed loads are on the tight side of minimum PF's, I load with confidence because I found WST to be very consistant and stable with no surprises. TR
  8. I like Titegroup as well but if anyone who uses it has some WST laying around, try a head to head with Titegroup and WST.......... TR
  9. Wilson 47T's will function flawlessly with VERY minor feed lip tuning......no force required. OAL need to be between 1.160 and 1.200.......155 through 200 grain. TR
  10. I would suggest the best way to allieviate this problem is show up early, pick up a stapler and carry a few props into spot and be involved up front and early in course of fire development......... Cause what really sucks is, after all the planning, set-up, and RO time put into doing a match, is listening to all the whinning, usually from the more experienced shooters who only seem to have enough time to shoot the match........... TR
  11. Try 4.6 WST and your particular's.............. TR
  12. idiot......... legit Clays tournament......... Silly me. TR
  13. Quote: from tightloop on 7:28 am on Dec. 1, 2002 If you are in front or back all you see are only the edges and that is not the way the target was designed to be presented. Correct.......but the question was what is the hardest presentation. No body said anything about conventional or fair
  14. uh huh.........pretty neat huh? TR
  15. True Hodgdon only lists loads for Hornady XTP in 155. Max charge is 6.6 but I see no reason why you could'nt use a start charge of 6.0 for the lead........... As always work your loads up slowly. TR
  16. Incoming or outgoing Batue................ TR (Edited by Tree Rat at 9:34 pm on Nov. 30, 2002)
  17. bulm5........4.6 WST, 180 Star FMJ-FP @ OAL 1.140..........Kimber. Work your loads up carefully........Your mileage may vary. TR
  18. Pssstt.......Bill.......IT'S A DODGE!!! Sorry for your luck. Need a ride to the range? TR
  19. WST shoots noticeably softer than N320 with any given bullet weight in major. Clays HAS TO BE over pressured to achieve major, again in any bullet weight. Titegroup is awesome stuff (I call it 21st century Bullseye), but too snappy for competition use IMHO.............. TR
  20. The keyholeing observation was reference the Berrys and not the lipstick pig lead stuff........ Why so........ poly barrels collect lead so quick, as oppossed to conventional rifling? TR
  21. Lead sucks! Any justification beyond cost is putting lipstick on a pig........ Berry's 200 RS; load and run real nice in my experience. I have though, experienced and witnessed very dramatic keyholeing with 9mm RN and Titegroup in Glocks and to a lesser extent H&K USP's, suggesting poly barrels might be problematic. TR
  22. How come most references list 3N37 as faster than N350 when in most loadings it allows for greater max charges at near equal velocity?? TR
  23. Not to re-direct on the 231....but you need to try WST with 180's for 165 PF, for the the softest shooting. I load 4.6 underneath a Star 180 FMJ-FP, OAL 1.140 making 170 PF out of a Kimber. TR
  24. Ah.....very good. I gotta a big match this weekend.......as long as you guys beat that huricaine down and not let it up the coast. TR
