  1. The Gap and no Gap has to do with the magazines used. The gap or standard version can be used with standard mags with the little extension off the mag base plate. But the other no gap version needs a mag base pad without the little extension and Dawson makes those. Look at the link to the 9mm magazines at Dawson. The first at the top left of the page is the no gap version and the next magazine to the right is the gap or standard version. Look at the front of the basepad to see the difference. http://www.dawsonprecision.com/CategoryProductList.jsp?cat=MAGAZINE+COMPLETE%3A1911+Single+Stack:9mm+Magazines+for+1911 I use the aluminum gap version on my STI Trojan .40 and 9mm and it works very well. Makes weight in both.
  2. 20-22 rounds is usually more than enough for a mag and you will be changing mags on the move. Make sure you have a reliable set up as two extra rounds aren't worth the reliability. I run 21 rounds in my Glock mags and never had any problems.
  3. Any idea of the 2015 dates yet? Probably the 18-20 weekend if they keep the same date area but need to put in leave for 2015 by Dec 31st and want to make sure i get it in for this match.
  4. You don't need any tools to tune an extractor. Did mine like this after I had the tip of my Trojan's extractor break off and it was easy. Took about 10 minutes and has run great ever since.
  5. Excellent! I don't know who thought that standing still and loading in a "gunfight" was a good idea but they obviously had a brain fart that day. LOL For a sport that tries to keep itself tethered to some sort of concealed carry reality it was the stupidest rule I had seen.
  6. Still looking good I still need to find time to shoot at Ledyard LOL Just been busy. Have my second scope I haven;t even got a chance to zero it yet. Give Jim a call and he will help you get your rifle range stuff.
  7. Why not just get an Eagle and save yourself $400 after you put a magwell on it? Do you need the rail?
  8. Buy one. I actually just picked up a slightly used STI Trojan 9mm off Gunbroker for $725. I put a Dawson magwell on it and got 3 Dawson mags and brought it out this past weekend and shot it at a local IDPA match in ESP. Was a blast. I have a Trojan in .40 as well that I use in USPSA Single Stack. You will have fun with them. Shooting 9mm from a 42 ounce 1911 is almost cheating LOL I have shot Glocks since 1988 and the only thing that is different for me, besides the obvious trigger which for me isn't bad to go back and forth, is the grip with the 1911 thumb safety. Holding the same grip my Glocks won't lock back as my finger in on the slide release. Not a big deal except for IDPA SSP. I still use my Glock 34 for 3 gun and very rarely go to slide lock.
  9. Different ways to make the mags get in there easier. Some are smaller and some larger. I am using the Dawson mag wells on my .40 and 9mm Trojans and I like the feel on my hand as I grip the pistol. Almost like a hand stop so the pistol sits tight. Some people might not and want a more slimline version. Just make sure whichever one you get it works for whatever game you are playing and keeps you in the box for size in IDPA or USPSA SS and also doesn't put you over weight. That's why I use the aluminum version of the Dawson.
  10. If you registered already go to the very bottom of the registration page and there is a link to squads under your info.
  11. Email sent Charles. I realize it's only 48 hours old but when the email says we have to pay within 48 hours or lose out spot I get a little worried when I didn't get my payment info email yet. I am sure it will get worked out. Just didn't want to lose my spot. Thanks.
  12. I am number 4980. There are people in the 5000s squadded already that is what has me worried that my invoice got lost in the internet somewhere.
  13. I replied to the email but if I don't hear back by morning will send another. Don't want to lose my spot.
  14. Just got this email below. So how do you know which one you are? There is no link to pay in the email or on the site. Just wondering as i want to pay. I know I got in as when I registered it only showed 150 people registered. Good Afternoon everyone! Thank you all for registering for the 2015 Bushmaster Tarheel3gun Challenge. At present you are either on the wait list pending payment or on the wait list not invoiced. If you are pending payment you have 48 hours to pay before you are placed on the wait list. If you are not invoiced then you should watch your email for a invoice. Due to increased demand for this match, (over 350 folks signed up) we will be expanding the match schedule to allow more folks into the match. We plan to run this match on Thurs/Fri (April 16-17) or Sat/Sun (April 18-19). If you would like to shoot Thurs/Fri, please go to the squad link that is provided in your promotion email (that happens after payment) and select a squad that say THURSDAY/FRIDAY or SATURDAY/SUNDAY .These events are self Sqaudding. This is are best attempt to get all that signed up into the event. The awards ceremony will be held as planned on Sunday (April 19th), so if you choose to shoot Thurs/Fri, please plan to have someone walk the prize table for you or plan to return for the awards.
  15. Signed up at 9:00:10 and got my you got in email but still waiting for the invoice email so guess not in for sure yet. Said a couple days in the email I got so I am sure it will be here soon. Shot the match the past two years and had a great time.
  16. Picked up a slightly used 9mm STI Trojan off Gunbroker for $725 about 2 weeks ago, bought 3 Dawson 10 round mags and put on a Dawson mag well and hit my first IDPA match with it yesterday. Had a great time and it was a fun gun to shoot. I had started really liking to shoot 1911/2011 style pistols in USPSA and always shot my Glock 34 in IDPA but figured I would try ESP with the Trojan and really like it.
  17. Bingo. If it ain't broke then why fix it?
  18. What was the grouping and cadence differences? I sight mine in at 15 yards as well. Have never shot out past about 35 yards in a USPSA match and it's worked fine. My 3 gun pistol is also sighted in at 15 yards and I have shot steel plates, about 18"x24" or so, to 100 yards and only used a slight high hold.
  19. Good info. Take his FYI and replace M&P Pro 9mm with Glock 34 for me. Totally agree with Pat too.
  20. Yup those would be good up here in the northeast during the winter months.
  21. From Frank at SH just in case people didn't get the email: Sniper's Hide has Moved to the Scout Network In case you missed it, earlier in the month Sniper's Hide has moved the site to the Scout Network. Contrary to popular belief we did not sell the site, but entered into a deal to host the website over at Scout. In the short term this may seem like a radical move, however the long term plans to grow Sniper's Hide with the help of Scout will become evident to all. The Downside of the Move There are some immediate downsides, however this is strictly short term. First the website, we are currently working a brand new site that will be launched in the first quarter of 2015. There is a lot happening on the software side, and much of that work is not active yet. We understand this and please realize, this is a work in progress. Nothing is complete, what you see is NOT what you are getting. We are adding features weekly and will continue to put missing features back. Many have already noticed the changes. Logging on, In order to log on for the first time, members must use their email addresses from the original Sniper's Hide website to recover their password. Passwords did not transfer over. So use the password recovery with your email address to log on before attempting to use your user name. Once you are logged on, you can then relink your User Name. Many user names are already taken within the network so a modification of your User Name maybe necessary. For example, "Lowlight" was already active on the network so I changed mine too: "SHLowlight" ... real simple. Once that is complete you can log on and post under your user name. Change is Progress, Understand this is a new server and new network. The old information from Sniper's Hide was not lost, but it was not moved over. We had over 3 Million posts on the original site, and we did not lose any of it. However in order to access your old account, posts, or private messages, you need to return to the old site. The old will remain accessible by changing, .com to .info. So use snipershide.info to log on there. The new site is brand new, we are repopulating it with a ton of the best posts, and guys have really stepped up to make it work. We have added a lot of data, for example the reloading depot is much cleaner with a lot of the best loads for you to use. No, you don't have to pay, Many have mistaken the premium content information to mean you now have to pay to access Sniper's Hide. This is not true, the premium content only pertains to the Online Training. This is the same thing we had before, however with your premium content account you have access to the Online Training, plus all the Scout Content benefits and deals they offer. Also with a premium content membership you get a subscription to Warrior Magazine. Searches, It's true, you can't search the New Site for Old Information. You have to use the old site for that. Google is catching up with the changes and has already started relinking the old content and the new content so they will work. This is exactly the same as the change from UBB Threads to vBulletin. They used two different link structures and many forget that it took a while to convert the UBB Links to the vBulletin format. Same thing here, it is already working and you can easily search the site same as before. Use SITE:snipershide.scout.com AND _______ (Search Term) and you will see it works as long as you looking for something that actually exists on the new site. It's the difference between search 3 million posts and 10,000 posts. That old data just might not be there, so if you have a question ask. While the benefits are not readily apparent, believe me when I say, we would not have made this drastic of a move if there was not a long term benefit for all. In order to grow the sport, we have to open up our reach, and Scout Network puts us right in the center of a very large sports network. Make no mistake, shooting is a sport. If others see it as mainstream it's a lot harder to attack as extreme. We have a plan, a direction and not everything can be discussed at this time, believe us, the plan in place and moving forward. I understand this is not for everyone, and many can careless about other sports out there. No problem, nobody is saying you have to look. But under the "Warrior" banner, there are a lot of really cools sites being added. I especially enjoy the military history pages. Sure, we're asking for a leap of faith, but understand this is the 5th change in the history of Sniper's Hide. We had just as many complaints about the vBulletin move if not a bunch more. So like that, which took 9 months to change and improve, this will change and improve.
  22. I am using a 5" STI Trojan and Eagle.
  23. 3.2grns of TG with the 180 plated or FMJ. I went down to 3grns but the 3.2 shot better and is around 135PF. Feels very soft. I loaded them to 1.145" OAL so if you are going 1.180" then maybe try 3.3 or 3.4 as well. I used a 10# recoil spring with it. 3grns and the 200grns works well too.
