  1. I would get some dies for your 550 and work up a load.
  2. I wouldnt build a new Open gun without one.
  3. This years USPSA nationals was not riddled with arbitrations. Not even a single one if I remember correctly. I shoot IDPA. I run a IDPA Club in Colorado. I was the stats geek for the 2004 Colorado State Match. The rulebook needs a re-write. All the articles in the Tac-Journal that are taken as rules should be incorporated. All emails from Dru that are taken as rules should be incorporated. The holster list could be made into something like, Must cover trigger guard and everything from the barrel hood and cylinder down, Yak slides exempted. Make the holsters out of any material. No shoulder holsters. The 40, 10 and 45 GAP should be in CDP. Hits on non threats should be double down what they are now. Knee and elbow pads should be allowed. We may look like a bunch or roofers, but we wont be limping too bad at the end of the day or picking rocks out of our knees and elbows. You tell the GIs in the desert their knee pads make them look like roofers. I also run a IPSC Club and 3-Gun club in Colorado and was a Section Coordinator for two years. IPSC isnt perfect and either is IDPA. Both can be made better. Discussing what we can do to achieve that doesent always have be taken as bashing. Please notice none of the above compares IPSC to IDPA, nor did it bash either.
  4. From the looks of it, you can put a comfort tech stock on an M1. A little dremeling where the trigger guard and the stock come together should make it work. Mercury recoil reducers inside the buttstock are legal.
  5. I really like Ky-Tac pouches and holsters.
  6. http://www.marinetimes.com/content/editori...02804front4.JPG I had the honor of working with the above Marine while he attended the Air Force Academy from 1999-2003. Upon graduation, he cross-commissioned to the Marines, why I do not know... He was the Cadet Commander of the Combat Arms Team for two years and a very active IPSC and IDPA competitor. Notice the finger out of the trigger guard? I guess he did learn something after all. Should you want to help a fellow shooter out, he says Copenhagen, mint snuff, Beef Jerky, and gun magazines are like gold to the guys over there. Mail takes about three weeks to get to him. 2ndLt Donaldson, M.J. 2/5 F co. Section UIC 40360 FPO AP 96426-0360
  7. Just picked up the new CD last night on the way home. Very cool covers of some old songs. Maynard's voice is better than ever. I still miss the bass style of Paz. The selection of songs to cover goes well with the band and how they play together. I dont think its better than Mer de Noms or Thirteenth Step, but worth buying. Covers dont bother me at all, the last Rush CD and Garage Days are great examples of how a cover album should be done. I wont say anything about the political aspects of this CD. I take the music for what it is, good music. I hope Tool starts putting out music again soon. Its been a while since Lateralus.
  8. Other than buying a new 627, does anyone know of a source/gunsmith for cylinder conversions?
  9. As I wondered about the match I noticed a few things. While shooting AK's, some shooters were chanting in foreign tongue. While shooting AR's, some shooters were swearing at their jammed gun. The weak shoulder shooting at 45 yards showed who practices it and who had never tried it. I think the match was a draw. The AR's shot faster and easier, the AK's didn’t jam. Move the targets out past 200 yards and I think the AR will win hands down. Next Oct we will do it again. Only difference is I will have a new ACL and I will be shooting.
  10. Depending on how the match goes over, it may become a yearly occurrence. Credit for the idea goes to Eddie Rhodes and Eric Miller. JJ and I are the poor bastards that agreed to put it on.
  11. Yeah, thats what I want to know. There is two matches a month.... Clays with the Tubb is tough. It gets easier once they stand still. Clays with the 28 isnt as hard as it sounds. I can get in the high 70's to low 80's (four rounds of 5-stand, its all I have on base) as long as the shots are inside of 50 yards. I am trying to not get serious about the clay games as its fun and I really want to keep it that way. I may have shot my last round of 12 gauge outside of IPSC. 200 rounds and I dont feel at all beat up. I am really looking forward to Pheasant hunting this year.
  12. Its a completely internal mod that helps ignite primers. I cant even begin to imagine that John would say its illegal, if its presented in the reliability aspect/manner. Welcome to the board Rager.
  13. I had a chance a few weeks back to compare a factory ported Benelli to a non ported version of the same gun. Putting four fast rounds (0.15-18 splits) on a 25 yard IPSC target revealed the porting did not do much. The non ported gun climbed to maybe the top of the head. The ported gun maybe climbed to the bottom of the head. Could have been different with slugs or buck, but all I used was AA Handicap. Not much gain. All I shoot at the clay games anymore is a 28 O/U, I am just a weenie when it comes to recoil anymore.
  14. I have a lot of Ky-Tac gear. About half of it I ordered from Joe at SKD-Tac. Everything else I ordered straight from Dave. I must have been lucky. Never more than a month wait and the holsters are first rate.
  15. Doug Jones has done a couple for me in years past. No problems at all.
  16. Many congrats. How bad did your hat get trashed?
  17. High Power is a different animal than IPSC. Much different. I lightly turned all the necks of my 600 yard Laupa brass. Every 600 yard powder charge was weighed. All the 600 yard bullets were sorted by weight. Every case from 200-600 had the flash holes deburred and the primer pocket squared. If I dropped any points, I want to know that it was me. Not the gun or the ammo. Weighted carriers slow the unlocking of the gun just long enough to allow the extraction to be a bit easier on the brass. With all that time spent on brass prep and using high dollar brass, you can be sure I wanted it back. Now that 90 gn bullets are getting more popular, it seems like slowing up the unlocking is a little more important than it was with the 80's. Then I shot an IPSC match in 1995. Shoot a Palma match now and again and silhouette monthly, but no high power. I found myself getting bored and taking little mirco naps between shots. I still have a brand new DCM Armalite AR that Frank White built for me. I guess I should at least break in the barrel. High Power match set-up is a lot easier though.
  18. I say get one. They are fun and challenging. Too challenging once you add no shoots. A no shoot plate on a star is fine and can almost force shooters to start at the same place. And yes I am the guy that introduced them to Eastern Colorado and have plans this winter to get an MGM rifle one for our 3-Gun matches. Sorry I missed you at the Mile High. Uncle Sam had me out of town, again... Pueblo Reload, must see.
  19. Maybe 15-20. Havent shot it in years. Skeet is just practice for dove hunting and stress relief on my lunch hour. After so many 23's and 24's I thought I might choke. After I left low 6 clean, I knew it was in the bag.
  20. Finally. No more monkey on my back. All my friends are at nationals, so I headed to the skeet range today with my 28. High gun is for sissies.
  21. 49, wow. Thats old. All kidding aside, Happy Birthday.
  22. Lock Stock and Barrel was under $50 last time I bought some. Its been a couple years though.
  23. If JJ and I arent at the big year long 3-Gun match overseas next year, we will be there. Me shooting my Tubb in 6.5-284 and JJ shooting his JP-15. Just looks like too much fun. That and you dared me.
