  1. I picked up some of the .30 cal cans at Gander Mountain a month or so ago for $7 each. They were in great shape. You might try there if you have one around you.
  2. Looks like it is definitely worth a try. Now I just have to try to locate all of the parts.
  3. What do folks think about the Millet DMS1?
  4. Yep, just a few of us here from the DFW area. Welcome.
  5. I haven't purchased the DSA upper, but have had good luck with other parts purchased there. If you are in a hurry, you should call though and confirm that they have what you want in stock or how soon they are going to get it.
  6. I'm happy no one was hurt. I think it is also a testament to the 1911 design that this gun and the other that was recently posted aren't coming completely apart and hurting someone.
  7. I've had good luck picking up older reloading manuals (maybe 1-2 versions back from the current versions). This is a good way to get several books and then be able to compare them. I've found this is a great way to learn as they each tend to provide somewhat different and somewhat overlapping information.
  8. The weight of the safe is typically the best indication of how good the safe is. I'm not in the business but did quite a bit of research before buying one. You should watch these videos to get some ideas: (in particular watch the safe break-in starting about halfway through) I'm not advocating any of the safes show in the videos - just something to think about. One other area to look at with safes is commercial safes, such as a TL15 or TL30. If you pay attention to your local craigslist, classifieds, ebay, etc., you can often find a commercial safe for the same or lower price than a "gun safe". The commercial safes typically are as fancy (no gloss finish) but are much more secure. They also tend to be much heavier. You will likely have to pay someone to move a commercial safe, but you are likely still ahead on price even with this. You will also have to build your own interior, but it sounds like you are already thinking about that given your initial question. Best of luck, and remember to always buy bigger than you think you will ever use ;-)
  9. I'm a fan of Spikes and want to say that you probably can't go wrong with what they are offering. That said, if you want to think about a complete lower, DSArms has a pretty good deal on a complete lower - $180 last I looked.
  10. Jim, Just curious. Was your upper built from scratch or did you use a commonly available platform as the starting point for your upper? Thanks.
  11. Anyone have any updates from the SHOW Shot as to new products for the Saiga?
  12. I've read several threads on various sites and the general opinion is that it's not a problem.
  13. You might look at a Giruad. It is on the expensive side but has an excellent reputation. http://www.giraudtool.com/prod02.htm
  14. Calishootr, Your post is what makes me leary of jumping back into the sport after having been out for 12yrs - I know I'll "need" all new equipment. Oh well, have to jump in sometime.
  15. Just figured I'd check in to see if there were any updates here.
  16. One other option for anyone looking for a safe is to find a used commercial safe and make your own interior. Look for something TL15 or TL30 rated. "Gun" safes, even something like the Ft. Knox, can't even come close to the protection the commercial safes offer. And typically, the commercial safes are a fraction of the price of a "gun" safe. Craigslist and ebag are good places to watch for the commercial safes.
  17. Is it possible to update older LnL presses to the EZject system? Thanks.
  18. Just ran across this. Now I have another toy to add to the ever growing list of wants . . . make that needs.
  19. You could also try the David Tubb Final Finish system. He also has a version specifically designed for throat maintenance.
  20. Patrick Kelly, Can you update us here when your new article on comps is finished? I, for one, would like to see the outcome. Your write-ups are very well done and informative. Thanks.
  21. Dallas Reloads is another option: http://www.dallasreloads.com/
  22. Sounds like I need to pick up some new springs and followers.
