  1. Gorilla, You can take brass that been fired through a KKM barrel and it will drop into a case gauge with no problems.
  2. Joe, My standard advice when asked by a newbie that wants to compete with a Glock in any of the shooting sports is to replace the sights and get a trigger job. When asked about changing the barrel I usually advise against it. Having said that though all of my carry and competition Glock’s have aftermarket barrels and to me it's simply a matter of preference and what your particular pocket can afford. BTW, it was great talking to you yesterday and hopefully you'll get that Open gun built soon so you can post some pictures of it.
  3. I currently have several Glock’s that I use for IDPA and USPSA/IPSC competition with KKM, Briley and Bar-Sto barrels and it’s my honest opinion that for the money you cant go wrong with KKM.

Chris, From my view of the world the only question I would ask your friend the gunsmith/designer/artisan after seeing his work would be how much they would charge nothing else. BTW, I have even been known to fund prototypes before. Saludos, Raul

    Glock 9x19 Open

Cpty1, I’m extremely happy for you that someone was so kind enough to loan you the prototype of an Open gun that they have taken the time to design and work on. That tells me that this person must think of you as an expert that can provide constructive feedback on as to what works and doesn’t work with this particular design. My only beef with your posting is that since the gun is a prototype and the designer seems to be concerned about his design specifications leaking out before they have the time to patent any unique features that it might have been a bit premature to release any information on it until its completed and they have whatever unique features patented so they can see some financial reward for all of their hard work.

Cpty1, So what’s the point of even bothering to post anything about this wundergun that some mystery individual put together if neither you nor the builder want to show nor discuss in any detail what it is that has been done. Cpty1 States: "I would take a pic with the slide off, but I know that would reveal some of the stuff the builder feels are his unique ideas and has already told me he doesn't want pics going out of the internals. "

  8. Team Sand Captain, Can you give us a status report after let's say 5k rounds have been fired with it. Also is it primer sensitive?
  9. Jim, Is this a Hicap follower (Glock Part # 1812) or are you using or the Glock 10 round magazine follower (Glock part # 2183).

    Glock 9x19 Open

I have made USPSA Major with Hodgdon's Longshot powder and to be frank I prefer it over HS-6. The cartridge has been configured using Montana Gold's 125 grain 357 SIG bullet seated to an OAL of 1.145
  11. I have found that the Scherer followers don’t always work 100% of the time I have had situations where I have had to tune them by removing some material from the sides. Another problem that I have run into with Scherer followers is that I have found no retailer that carries that item by itself. To my knowledge this part is only sold as part of the internal replacement parts kit. An alternative follower that could be used with the 40 S&W Scherer magazine tubes is Glock part # 2183-1. With regards to 140 mm base pads I have found Arredondo’s to be the best for Scherer and Glock FML tubes and Taylor Freelance for the NFML tubes. If the requirement is for 170 mm nobody even comes close to Taylor Freelances current offering. It’s my honest opinion that all other extended base pads for Glock that are currently in the market are second rate when compared to those two brands.

    Glock 9x19 Open

I have a Glock Open gun that has been built for 9x19 major. The following link will provide more details on it. http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?th...ighlight=amigos BTW, I'm having the slide lightened further and a new comp is being configured for it also.
  14. Glock has stated in its Annual 02 publication under Ask Glock! (Page 8) That lead bullets could lead to increased pressures but having said that on the same page they mention that any commercially produced ammunition that meets SAAMI or CIP specifications can be used go figure. 1.Q: Why cant I shoot lead bullets in my Glock? A: GLOCK rifling is polygonal or octaganol for better bullet to bore seal. Lead builds more quickly in these types of rifling and the lead buildup will increase chamber pressures to an unsafe level. (This problem was common years ago with the 357 Magnum cartridge since the original factory loads were lead) 8.Q: What kind of ammunition should I use in my gun? A: Commercially produced, quality ammunition manufactured to SAAMI or CIP specifications.
  15. Here's a site that shows in a graphical manner how to tune the Scherer Tubes. http://god-damn.net/glockmag.htm
  16. One of the things that I have found besides making the insertion of the magazine easier is that it adds weight to the frame which helps balance out the gun more. BTW, if you go to the following link you'll see a few of my competition Glock’s with the accessories brass magazine well. http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=131752
  17. I used to shoot Oregon Trail’s Laser Cast bullets and while they are a decent bullet the levels of smoke that it generated was simply unacceptable especially when shooting through ports made from barrels. Currently for practice and local matches I purchase from a local manufacturer (LA, CA) jacketed 10mm/40 caliber bullets 180 grain for under $55.00 per thousand and at those prices I no longer use lead bullets like Precision or Bear Creek except when I’m doing Steel matches.
  18. Worked up a load today that I chonographed with my CED millennium and it actually exceeded all of my expectations. List of Components Montana Gold's 357 SIG 125 grain bullets Coal of 1.145 Winchester 9x19 brass Federal small pistol primers 8.5 grains of Hodgdon’s HS 6 powder The average velocity from a 20 shot string was 1398 FPS +174 PF. BTW this was out of a Glock G17 Open gun that’s configured with a Briley barrel (5 inch) and Compensator.
  19. Dogma, The numbers have always come in +/- 6% (maximum). This in my opinion is no more of a difference than what you'll find between lots of the same brand of powder. This product has been very useful to me since it allows one to do what if scenarios. This particular feature has saved me countless hours when working up a load but then again YMMV. 21. Yes there is a way of calculating it by using products like Neconos Quickload Internal Ballistics Software. 22. I have used both Zero and Montana Gold bullets and both have given me good results, but right now for my G17 Open (9x19 major) gun I'm using Montana Gold’s 125 Grain FP RS (357 SIG) since it's at least .030 shorter than most 115 grain bullets out on the market today. For 40 S&W and 45 ACP I tend to use Golden West which is a local LA (South El Monte) manufacturer whose prices just can’t be beat when it comes to jacketed bullets.
  23. Flex, The solution is extremely simple the steps are as follows: 1.Remove material from the sides and rear of the Glock pre ban follower with a Dremel or equivalent tool until the follower is able to make it allow the way to the top of the tube with no resistance. 2.Modify the front lip of the tube by creating a feed ramp with a similar angle as what is found on the 10 round magazines 3.Use Wolff’s +10 springs
  24. Dick, I ran into a similar problem as yours when I built my Limited gun. When using the extended tungsten guide rod the firearm would FTF on demand. After trying a plethora of spring weights from Wolff and ISMI I basically settled on using the spring from the original Glock guide rod. With regards to the magazine well I' currently using two and there have been no problems to date. BTW, the following thread shows a picture of the Glock’s that have the Brass magazine well installed. http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=131752
  25. Jager, Scherer have given me the best results of the aftermarket magazine tubes that I have used to repair some of my older magazines the only caveat is that the components will need to be tuned. Now having said that unless you live in California where there is a state law prohibiting the sale, bequeathing, loaning etc of any magazine that is capable of holding more than 10 rounds I would suggest you buy original Glock.
