    PMAG test?

It's rare, but it happens. I had one or two G19 FML mags where the liner (which joins at the rear) started separating from the polymer body. The result was that rounds could be fed in, but they'd hang up on the liner and not feed out. I sent them to Glock, and got new ones in exchange. I bought one G17 PMAG several weeks ago just to test. No problems so far...but I'm not a fan of their lack of witness holes and the floor plate has a disconcerting amount of fore/aft play in it. I have enough original mags for all my Glocks, that unless/until they start making G42 and G43 mags, I really have no need for aftermarket Glock mags. I'd still love to see them make M1 carbine mags. Again, I have plenty, but they're a mix of ~70 year old USGI and more recent Asian manufacture of unknown quality. I'm not holding my breath though...I suspect the M1 carbine is a pretty small market with no chance of .gov/.mil contracts.
  2. How do you figure? The price of 147 JHP at Roze are $109.60 per 1,000 or $104.90 per 1,000 (if you buy 2,000 or more but that quantity isn't even available) while 147 FMJ at PD are $104.00 per 1,000 (if you buy 2,000 or more). I'm used to shopping the .45 bullets, and I see prices have fluctuated a bit. Though PD doesn't offer 147gr or 230gr JHP (and if they did, they'd likely cost more than the FMJ). Roze had the 147JHP available at the 2k price when I ordered mine. In my experience, if you order 2 or 3 of the 3 available at the 1k price, they'll give you the 2k price. I don't know what it is about their web site that it says they have 3 available at the 1k price, and 0 at the 2k price...but I've run into that before. Still, I think everyone is cheaper than MG...and I can't say anything bad about their bullets other than the pricing. PD, I've had QC issues with in the past and was not impressed with their handling of my complaint. But when you produce a product that literally flies off the shelf as fast as you can produce it, customer service doesn't really matter.
  3. I just recently noticed Roze had Zero 147gr JHP in stock [again?]. I've never used them, but figured I'd order some and try them. I've shot plenty of their .45acp (230gr FMJ/JHP and 185gr JHP). In my opinion/experience, Zeros are like getting Montana Gold quality at sub-Precision Delta pricing. The rebated base on these is something I haven't seen before.
  4. I've loaded thousands with Dillon dies with no shaving issues. Same here (dillon dies and funnel) thousands of coated bullets (as well as jacketed and plated). I do go slower with the coated ones, taking time to make sure they start out reasonably straight. They're not as durable/forgiving as jacketed.
  5. http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/tumblers/2500-auto-flo-tumbler.php I've had mine since 2008. I haven't counted, but they claim it can handle up to 1000 .38spl...so 1000 9mm should be no problem. I found the catch pan that came with it to be undersized and basically unusable. I bought a much larger one from a local feed store.
  6. I'd use a bullet like that for light/low recoil .38spl...doing around 750-800fps
  7. That's what they suggested. Other, similar profile bullets, I try to load just about to the ogive to keep the bearing surface from getting scraped while chambering. They usually come out around 1.200". 1.150" for .45acp does sound incredibly short to me, and I'd be worried about feeding issues. It's hard to tell from their pictures, but it looks like the bearing surface may continue for a bit after the crimp groove? Maybe I'll just try the 147s and 230s.
  8. I used their contact form last night, and got a response today that it was a web site glitch, and has been fixed, but have not verified it. Has anyone tried their 200gr RNFP in .45acp? I don't see any reason they wouldn't work as well as / as a direct replacement for Bayou's 200gr RNFP or any other cast&coater making that profile.
  9. These? http://www.acmebullet.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=432
  10. I just checked again, and it seems the 200gr .45 bullets are just discount exempt for some reason, regardless of quantity. 500 packs of 147gr and 230gr get the discount.
  11. I was just pricing some .45 and 9mm bullets on Acme's site, and it appears the discount only applies to 2500 count cases...but the .45 bullets I was looking at aren't even offered in >2000 count. So, is the discount only available on the smaller bullets?
  12. I know...old post...but is there a new code that "does more" than Shoot does? I put this in as a VIP code, and instead of a discount on my order, it offers me a "free gift" for $29.95 that lets me add a spare set of lenses to otherwise full priced frames and Rx insert. I'm looking at getting a Rydon II set for one of my kids, and was hoping for a beter deal than $300+ for frame+Rx insert+2 lenses (clear and sunglass).
  13. Unless shot from a really short barrel, that should have no problem making PF.
  14. Blackandbluebullets.com makes it easy to select the size you want when ordering...but if you don't have a reason to be avoiding jacketed, PD is only a tiny bit more $ and jacketed bullets are easier to load and don't lead barrels.

    45 issues

.4745 is not enough flare. You should be flaring to much closer to .480. Also, with lead or coated bullets, you need to be careful to make sure the bullet is not canted when it goes up into the seating die. With jacketed bullets, this doesn't matter as much...the die will straighten it out...but with non-jacketed, you will scrape the bullet in the process. Also, it's been my experience that some of the coated bullet makers size their bullets "a little fat" and this can result in finished ammo that won't gauge, but will chamber. Dillon's .45acp gauges are very tight. My Glock .45 chambers are not.
  16. Having tumbled mixed brass before myself, this is a bad idea. Yeah...this is a media separator that can alternatively be used as a brass sorter...doing the two processes at the same time wouldn't make any sense. It looks like they either modified an RCBS rotary media separator or ripped off the design and modified it a bit.
  17. Interesting. Are they actually making their own primers or just rebadging someone else's?
  18. Looks interesting, but pricey, not many weights offered, and only 9mm and .40? Where's the .45?
  19. Powder speed doesn't have all that much to do with it. i.e. Titegroup is fast, but super dense...so a suitable charge disappears into the case. Clays and Promo are both very fast, but very non-dense. Universal is much slower than these, but non-dense enough that at least in 9mm, for the lighter bullet weights, double charges are impossible. Bottom line...to avoid squibs, you need to check that there's an appropriate amount of powder in each cartridge...whether that means using a powder check die or visually looking into each case after charging (or both). That still doesn't guarantee you won't have a squib, but it avoids one of the possible causes. You also need to have the presence of mind to stop when a shot doesn't feel right. If you get a click or poof when you expected a bang, and you eject an empty case, it's time to stop shooting.
  20. What? It's in the shade next to your mailbox. Now if it rained on them, I'd be pissed.
  21. OAL in published data can generally be considered the minimum for that data. Going longer is ok.
  22. That's a very cheap digital. I wouldn't expect much of it. I spent several times that on my first scale (Lyman 1000 XP), and I jokingly call it my "digital estimator". I found it to be inaccurate at the low end (like trying to weigh a single pistol powder charge) and to drift over reasonably short periods of time. I use it to see if I'm in the ball park, and then move to the Dillon beam scale.
  23. How are you getting those? They're not on the site yet. Any idea what pricing will be on the .45 200gr RNFP?
  24. Non-jacketed .45 bullets are frequently anywhere from .451 to .453. I tend to have trouble with >.452 bullets gauging when loaded.
