  1. I emailed Case Pro yesterday about ordering a set of dies. I was told that they would probably be available at the end of the year, and my credit card would not be charged until time of shipment. Response to the inquiry was swift, and came from infuzed2@cs.com
  2. We currently have 135 clubs which use the USPSA on-line results service for local matches. The key to getting more clubs to use this is customer demand. The process itself is far easier than postinging it manually on your club's own page (but many clubs do both). The combination of auto-emailed notices, and a WAP based page will enable shooters with cell phone that are WAP enabled and receive email to receive updates on their scores during the 2006 Area 7 Championship. We haven't figured out the exact schedule yet, but we'll probably update on-line scores every 2 hours duing the match. Rob
  3. Some free options to accomplish the same thing are Remote Desktop (included with XP) and Real VNC (www.realvnc.com), both of which work very nicely.
  4. Any USPSA member who enters their profile with email address into the USPSA web site (see www.uspsa.org/members and select "password and profile management" to set yours) will automatically receive an email whenever a match which includes their USPSA member number as a registered competitor is uploaded to the USPSA web site. This means that clubs won't have to collect email addresses and manually send notices if they want to tell their competitors the results are ready - just use the USPSA on-line system for posting results and this will happen automatically. 5. The Precision Delta sales site is at a different location from the main site for the time being, and has current prices www.precisiondeltasales.com. Precision Delta bullets and ammo are listed, however, they do not yet have the Winchester factory products they sell in the on-line sales system. The easiest way to browse is to select the "products by caliber" and pick the caliber you use. Their prices on bullets are delivered, however, shipping is added to loaded ammo prices.
  6. You need to find out if Beikirch's of Rochester, NY will have their roving ammo truck make a stop in VT for your future orders. Those people are great, and if there is a mistake the driver just picks the stuff up on the next run to your club and gives you credit, rather than arguing about whose fault it is.
  7. You should live in New York state, as they have a "speedy permit law." They are required to either issue/deny your permit within 6 months of application or give you a status update withing that timeframe. No, this is not a joke.
  8. I hate the fact that Linksys cut the internal memory on their WRT54G/Gs routers in half and started using some off brand OS instead of Linux inside. I further hate that this was done at one of the undocumented "hardward reve changes", without changing the model number to shot the customer they are getting less. Anything beyond V4 is junk unless you want to run the Linksys software which comes installed on the unit.
  9. It's not putting much data entry on the competitors - they only have to do it once for all matches (all that use the USPSA results system, that is).
  10. If we did away with power factor, wouldn't people start carrying a set of different loads? Some for long range steel; other puff loads for stages with no steel or only close steel or paper only stages?
  11. Once I get done with a new feature, you won't have to put in shooters email addresses. Tom Dings TY41365 pointed out that it was a waste of time to expect each match director to enter competitor email addresses. The profile a member can set on www.uspsa.org/members allows the member to define their email address and notification preference. Once this new feature is finished, the uploading of any match to local or major match results on www.uspsa.org will cause a "results ready" notification to be sent to every competitor in the match who has registered an email address and asked for such notifications. The only thing the match will need to do in order to have these notices sent it enter the member numbers correctly.
  12. I forgot to mention: You can buy them at www.precisiondeltasales.com or look at the general corporate website at www.precisiondelta.com
  13. The Precision Delta 40 180 is best described as a flat tip round nose. There is avery small flat tip. If you are looking for a jacketed 40 round that will drop into the revolver cylinder nicely, this may do the trick. You would have to be *way* off on your load for the tiny flat tips to be an issue.
  14. Go to www.uspsa.org, select "Match Calendar" and there will be a match results link at the top. Non-members can review results, but will see only the first initial of competito'rs last names.
  15. If you use the system at www.uspsa-photos.org to post the photos, they will be uploaded via a web page form which uses Port 80 (the same one used to browse the web), so the port will not be blocked.
  16. I prefer it when INT(SQUADSIZE/STAGE) scoresheets are moved from the top to the bottom. For example, if you have 15 people in a squad at a 5 stage match, move 3 sheets from the top to the bottom after each stage. Although not everyone will go first, every shooter will shoot stages near the beginning, middle and end of the rotation order.
  17. The real solution is to avoid stages where either a walk-through > 5 minutes or repeated observation of moving props is required to compete effectively. But, back to the issue and for the sake of discussion - under what rule would you assess a penalty? DNF for failure to start when told? Unsportsmanlike conduct? When push comes to shove, a specific rule must be used when applying a penalty and I wonder which one you would use.
  18. This brings up another sceario which occurs from time to time : The squad has been given a 5 minute time to review a complex state, and the first shooter was warned at the beginning of the 5 minutes. When asked if he is ready, the shooter responds "No, I am not ready. This is a complex stage and I do not have a plan, not have I been given the same opportunity to plan as the remainder of my squad. Please give me more time or move me down." Assume there are no volunteers willing to step up and be first. What do you tell the shooter? Do you tell him "Ready or not, you will start the course of fire or I will issue a DNF and you can arbitrate", or do you give him more time? Assume the Match Director has told you that CRO's need to be strict about the 5 minutes to keep the match on schedule.
  19. I don't know if Roger is at the USPSA Three Gun nationals, but that could account for the delay. Also, since some of the staff is at the Three Gun, it means Roger would have additional work if he was one of those remaining to hold down the fort. I remember in the "old days" being told that nobody but a few computer nerds would ever use on-line classifier scores, and that I was deluding myself if I though otherwise. Times do change.
  20. But, the people running the buyback learn that all they are going to get in junk and is makes another buyback less likely. You get bonus points by thanking the person handing out the buybackcheck and telling him/her this means you finally have enough to buy that new handgun you have been wanting. Buybacks are very bad, because they condition the public to several concepts : 1. Civilian ownership of guns is so bad that it's worth spending $$ to reduce it 2. It's OK for the govt to buy guns to get them out of hte hands of the public. The next logical step is making this mandatory. 3. To imply "buyback" somehow implies that the guns were in your hands due to the graces of the gov't, and they are simply undoing the pervious act of granting you access.
  21. I'll save you the call to GOAL and give you a quick overview. If you do call GOAL, ask to talk to Jon Green and tell him I sent you. There are two steps to making a handgun sellable via dealers in MA: #1: You need to get on the Executive Office of Public Safety (EOPS) approved list, a copy of which may be viewed at http://www.mass.gov/Eeops/docs/chsb/firear...er_jul_2005.doc (Yes, the state of Massachusetts actually posts ".doc" files - yikes!!!) In order to get on this list, 5 samples have to dropped onto concrete from 3 feet or so without a discharge of a primed case loaded in the chamber. This must be done by an independent lab, and the results submitted to the Massachsetts Gun Control Advisory Control Board which will make a recommentation to the EOPS. These recommendations are generally approved. Unlike CA, you do not have to surrender one of the test weapons to the crown nor do you have to pay an annual certification fee. There is a CMR (Mass regulation) which establishes that a larger caliber also includes smaller calibers. #2: You need to convince a dealer that the gun conforms to the AG consumer protection requirements as enumerated in 940 CMR 16.00, viewable at http://www.goal.org/misc/faq/regulations.html There is no published list of which guns comply with these consumer protection requirements, and the Attorney General's office has consistently refused to answer any questions as to which guns comply. They tell you to read the regulations or seek private legal counsel. The regulations are incredibly vague, using undefined terms such as "average five year old." Naturally, the AG will be glad to inform the dealer as to his interpretation of the regulations when assessing civil plenaties under the consumer protection statutes. For example, Glocks went on sale for a few weeks after Glock added a bump on the extractor to serve as a loaded chamber indicator (they already had the lab certification required in step #1). Several weeks later, the AG decided that this was not a "a device which plainly indicates that a cartridge is in the firing chamber within the handgun" (one requirement for non-target guns) and pressured Glock to recall the guns. They did not go after individual dealers for penalties, but the dealers had to play along and notify customers of the recall and keep their mouths shut about the fact that the customer was under absolutely no legal obligation to return the gun for a refund. The way the law is worded, the only entity that can violate it is a holder of a Massachsuetts license to sell firearms so the customers are in the clear - it's the dealer which has to worry. Violation of #1 is a criminal offense; violation of #2 is a civil offense of an "unfair and deceptive trade practice" witha $5,000 per gun civil penalty. Since the definition of #2 is vague, each dealer must make their own decision as to which guns comply. None of this applies to private sales; people moving into state; or people acquiring guns by inheritance (one case where interstate aquisition does not require use of an FFL). The going rate for a Glock 27 or a latest generation .357Sig Glock is $699 in this state - USED!!!
  22. If it's a conventional Glock trigger (3, 5 or 8lb), my guess is that it is the coil trigger return spring. This is a $.50 part is most likley broken or not connected to both the trigger bar and ejector housing. Did you do a detail strip the lower when you took it apart for cleaning?
  23. The Riveria should be able to find your package. Like many Las Vegas hotels, they have a separate business center which handles tasks like this for customers, so you're not dealing with hoping a desk clerk finding somewhere in a back room. The business center is not staffed 24x7, and I don't know if they have someone who will open it up off hours, so don't put off making the ammo pickup. There is a charge for pretty much everything so chances are you'll pay for the package reciept service. Cab fare is about $18 w/tip, and Bell Trans is about half that. The last time I took a Las Vegas shuttle, I spent 30 minutes on the van while they waited to get a big enough load to the hotel I was going to ... never again. The few extra $$ for a cab are definitely worth it. Las Vegas is one of the few places which still charges $9.95/day for hotel internet, but wireless intenet is free in the airport - a rather uncommon offering.
