  1. What JL said. This racker doesn't move. I much prefer it to the set screw variety because if you didn't loktite that style down, it would work loose. With loktite, it was a real pain to remove for cleaning. The properly fit ball/detent style is the way to go.
  2. Doug and Chriss are right on. I drove a car with pretty blue lights on top in SE Atlanta for about nine years and now I am merely a legally armed citizen in the state of Georgia so I think I have a decent perspective. I don't think that giving up my legally possessed firearm to a LEO while he sorts out a situation I called him to is problematic. If you think that your safety would be jeopardized by doing so then maybe you should have just handled the situation on your own...The responding officer doesn't know the players from Adam; should he just take everyone at their word before he knows who is who? I certainly don't feel that my 2nd Amendment rights are being trampled upon because an officer wants to go home at the end of the shift. Continue to be careful guys.
  3. Here is a little more: We are proud to announce that Cherokee Gun Club will be hosting the 2005 Georgia State USPSA/IPSC Championship. The match will take place on August 12th and 13th. It will be limited to 200 competitors and the format will be similar to that of last year. There will be only one session on Friday and two (AM and PM) sessions on Saturday. The match fee will be $75 and will include a T-shirt provided the entry form is received by June 30th. Juniors and RO's will shoot for free. (If you wish to be an RO, please let me know as soon as possible) STI contingency will apply if we have 175 competitors. Match entry forms will be available on our website by the end of the week. If you have any questions, please contact Carlos Rubio at carubio@bellsouth.net or Roger Kooi at rogerkooi@bellsouth.net.
  4. Here are two more pics. I will try to get a close up of the slide racker and its ball detent setup. The guide rod is delrin (JL makes 'em up to fit) and we use an 8 or 9 lb commander spring. In this one I have a .150 aluminum shok buff but you can go as far as .250 (JL correct me if that is bad info.)
  5. Jon, Go pack your stuff; Cherokee is in the morning. We've got 6 stages around 150 rounds. Then you can skip SR next week!
  6. Thanks guys, it is a fine open gun. Jon, I'll try to make the SR 3 gun but I'm not sure (3 gun is almost too much candy for a dime... ) You can't see it in these pics, but the sidewinder is snug in its dovetail retained by its ball/detent. No set screw; and it's beautifully blended to the slide. Brazos thumb shield, Les Baer ambis, Dawson Ice magwell, Extreme Engineering internals....the list goes on.
  7. Thanks BigDave, It's a great handling and feeling pistol. It is flat but not real abrupt (at least to me.) I have been shooting the true commander setup and really like it but this one seems, I don't know, just softer. I have a shok buff in this one which may be the reason for the different feel (can't shorten the commander stroke ) All I can say is that I am very happy.
  8. Here is the latest and greatest (IMO) in shorty 9's. STI slide/frame with the slide cut back to accomodate the STI Trubor 4.5 with comp milled to JL's specs. It is just a fraction of an inch longer than my commander Mongoose and maybe an ounce heavier. Awesome craftsmanship at a great price. JL will set you up in a custom gun built with meticulous attention to detail AND 4 tuned mags (3 140's and 1 170) for right around $2700. Sorry if that sounds like an ad, but if you want a shorty 9x19 and don't want to wait months to get shootin' you may want to look up Mr. Hardy.
  9. I'll be picking up the top one in JL's pic tomorrow...can't wait
  10. Sorry about the delayed response; We need the daylight of the summer months because we can't shoot on Sundays (until after 12:30) at Cherokee. June is packed and July is Summer Blast and Nationals this year. We went with the 2nd weekend in August. 2 weeks after the Nats and 2 weeks before the World Shoot. Don't worry, there will be plenty of water and some big fans on most of the bays. Come see us.
  11. I did the same thing this past Saturday after a monthly match! What is wrong with me? That thing runs like a scalded dog. It only had about 4,500 rounds through it too. Oh, well I'll just have to pick up a new Mongoose I guess.
  12. Ah but Jon, 10.5.11.1 references the single action self loading pistol with the safety not applied. The thumb safety is the only one that can be applied, right?
  13. As harsh as it sounds, it appears that 10.5.11.1 states that is what should occur. I guess if you can remind them before it gets in the holster.....
  14. Cherokee Gun Club, Gainesville, GA. Same venue as last year. The details are still being worked out. I will report them as they become available.
  15. Thank you Troy. That is the way I understood it, I appreciate your confirmation.
  16. I don't think we have to define every little descriptor in the book, I sure hope not I'm with you. If the stage designer wants the shooter to start with both feet flat on the ground insided the confines of the box then he/she should state it clearly in the stage description.
  17. I agree, Omnia. Let's boil it down then; gereric 'standing in box facing downrange, arms relaxed at sides.' I enter the box and put my right foot on top of the 2x2 frame(no contact on the outside.) My left foot is flat on the ground inside the box. Am I in the box? Do you start me in this position? I say yes.
  18. RKooi

    Slide racker

I agree. Slide rackers are just another piece of equipment that makes the gun more efficient. Open division allows the mods, why not take advantage. And yes, my gun runs 100%.
  19. OK Gary, we aren't going to let you go at just that... If the starting position merely states 'standing in the box", do you agree that I am in the box if I am not out of the box? I am not out of the box unless I am touching the ground outside of it, right? I understand what you mean (I think); if during the walkthrough you read the procedure and demonstrate your version of what in the box means to each and every shooter then that is in the box. I just think it is easier to be more specific in the stage description's start position. If you want both feet on the ground in the box then just say it there.
  20. I know you were probably looking for input from outside your normal shooting cadre, but what the heck. A box is 4 fault lines. If I am not faulting any of those four lines, I'm in compliance with the start position. My foot (or feet) on top of the 'line' without touching the ground outside means I'm OK. If the stage designer wants to prohibit such, then he or she should be very specific in regard to start position and where ones feet should be. p.s. good luck with the SS tomorrow!
  21. If you paid for it, by all means spread out....Just don't complain about ma bebby p.s. sorry to hijack the thread and violate the rules p.s.s I get to see J-Go nearly every month!
  22. This thread was started about infants. Infants don't run up and down the aisle nor do they kick the back of your seat. Nor can they be taught to 'clear' their own ears. I agree with Eric, infants shouldn't fly if that is an option. Sometimes it's not. I would much rather deal with some noise in front of or behind me than some oversized (read fat) adult crowding what little space I have in coach.
