  1. Great shoot, attended by luminaries such as Ron Avery, Bob Krough and our own Charlie Perez. Charlie was a bit under the weather with an injury but still shot well! My new-to-me Limited was 100% over 13 stages.
  2. If you want some old style magazines which permit long load 40, I just posted 5 in classifieds. Includes Grams followers and Henning 141.5 mm BPs. $250 shipped. Blake
  3. Thank you. I'll need to find out which Cheaper Than Dirt catalogs.
  4. I have the "inexpensive" version of the RM. The racer. I like kydex fine but wanted a single set up for both Limited and Open guns, hence the racer. Used to hate it for the above mentioned reasons but finally fixed the flopping and inconsistent release by sticking a roughly 1/4" shim at the bottom front of the holster where the gun's dust cover rests. All is now very fine and has been for awhile!
  5. I need 10 rd mags for my Limited. It's a 40 but load long so will need 10mm mags. Questions: can the baseplates of the 10 rd factory magazines be removed and replaced with IPSC legal .500s from Henning? How does one remove/replace spring and follower for cleaning and maintenance? I will be competing in the Canadian IPSC Standard class and taking my USPSA Limited gun to do that.
  6. If you must have a super, be happy knowing you can use 9mm in it with a couple extra reloading tricks. I have 38 Supers in 1911 and Tanfoglio platforms and both have gone through many 9. I got a 38 Limited because Henning told me there were no 9mm bigsticks at the time and I hadn't heard of people welding mags together to make 170mm. Later, I heard about plenty of folks shooting 9mm major in their 38 S open guns! Once I figured out how that worked I did the same with my 1911. Zero problems. Zero. (Ok, if you don't count the occasional .380 ACP finding its way through the loading process and causing an extraction failure. Duh!)
  7. I have Henning's grip panels and Eric's both. I move them around a lot because one week I decide one is better than the other and the next I reverse my opinion? Funny thing is that one of the pistols has had a grip reduction too. Here's the thing... I can't tell any difference in first round Alpha times nor anything else timer-wise. Sitting at my desk one day, I decided that the thinner panels were better for getting my thumb to the mag release. Went out the next day and shot a match where I was pleased to confirm that reloads were easier. Until I realized that I'd switched the grips one time more than I'd thought and was using Henning's slightly thicker ones! HAHAHAHA! Go with what you think are prettiest. (If that matters to you.)
  8. I've recently shot a couple matches in Limited Minor. Did it as a means to "trick" myself into being more careful with easy Alphas and also to conserve a dwindling supply of .40 powder. It's amazing how it focuses the mind knowing that each Charlie costs two points and a Delta is basically a no penalty Mike! Anyway, while I have absolutely no doubt that Major is the only way to go, I did pretty well shooting Minor. Actually won a match where there was a lot of steel, something a minor PF load helps a bit with!
  9. Used 3.8 gr Clays w/150 jacketed and 4.1 Clays w/135. Both sweet and accurate at most Steel Challenge ranges. Prefer 4.2 gr AA#2 w/180 jacketed tho. 740 fps and pretty ok on reactive steel too.
  10. Be sure you like the reset on a trigger- spring- lightened trigger. If you're a "trigger slapper" like me, it helps to get a boost off the lever for subsequent shots! Just saying.
  11. Generally, I think we make too big a deal about which gun, what trigger, best shooting jersey, etc. I love Tanfoglio guns and have three Limiteds. Why? Because I bought a Match on impulse a few years ago (couldn't believe how cheap it was) found it accurate and reliable and so committed to the platform with spare parts, holsters, etc. Part of being a Tanfo guy is getting to listen to all the 2011 devotees wonder why anyone would shoot anything other than what is, in this country, the gold standard. Reminds me of a secretary I had in Ventura, CA who couldn't get her head around why our (national motorcycle aftermarket distribution) business slowed down in winter. She saw the world through California Eyes! Funny but also sad. Anyway, if you're a reasonably strong person, a heavy gun seems ok. Maybe slightly slower (theoretically) transiting targets, but more stable when you're on the trigger! Glocks and the like are great for those who prefer them, too.
  12. Someone above said that a USPSA Member with a classification should get a pass for "Black Badge." Agreed. On a side note... Canadian PAL (firearms acquisition permit) has a check procedure that can involve pointing your (locked back and chamber checked) auto pistol at your head to confirm that there is no bore obstruction. You could use a dowel or something as well but I just can't get myself to look through the barrel from the business end.
  13. Yep. What I see too. Think the magwell will be fine as the mag's basepad is flush, so maybe a belt sander fix the magwell up. The rear sight however... really high. I'll build a box but looks to me that supersight will be the ticket.
  14. Moving to ipsc area from uspsa. Have the right mag base pads from Henning but wonder if his magwell will fit with the rs which is really high. Prolly, should build a box...
  15. If you add an EGW hammer and sear to the Tanfoglio, a sub 2# trigger with 1911 short reset is cake. The bonus is you get to argue the merits of the platform with the 2011 herd AND CZ aficionados! Great fun.
  16. Far from an expert on open gat stuff but two observations I've made: 1) extra weight of standard cmore with base is very noticeable to me in terms of reduction in recoil and dot movement, 2) I am convinced that getting the lens as close as possible to the slide is critical. Not for guys that came up on vertical mounts and not for the ones that only shoot open but for the rest of us. I know a guy who shoots mostly open and runs a vertical set up. He's good ((nearing MA) but complains about weak handed dot acquisition and similar. I've never experienced this problem and consider it self inflicted.
  17. Yes Matt's mount. Like it fine but imagine the Quinn is as good. BTW... I need a large frame Henning Magwell. (Crickets...) Hello?
  18. Nope, no holes. I imagine plenty of blow by on lens where it's positioned.
  19. https://www.dropbox.com/s/t7u0308efhe4fcz/2013-05-02%2018.08.50.jpg Found a slight better picture. This gun was very easy to shoot right out of the gate. Used Henning's recommended load after making sure it made major and shot some matches and classifiers with it with good results for me. First 6 classifieds put me at A level which is as good as I do with anything else and I even shot my best Smoke and hope time with it to that point. (I think the sideways cmore had something to do with that as well. Anyway, if you know smoke and hope, you know that transition speed is almost everything and that was good enough. It's a good sweet shooting piece that may not have the 100% finished look of a high end gun but is good enough for 95% of us for sure. Oh, and EG uses something sorta similar, so....
  20. I'm not a big open fan but I've shot some very pricey Limcats etc and due to weight mostly, I thing my open gun is better. If I was small, it may seem heavy, but it doesn't transit too slowly for me at my level. Many 2011 Open shooters have been impressed with this gun/comp combo. They're mainly 2011 aficionados though and would never switch.
  21. Never underestimate the value of Pixie Dust either. I sprinkle liberally before a match. Usually.
