  2. My open gun - dressed down to act as a Limited Minor practice mule for my 40s. I like the shortened dc in 9mm and especially in its open guise but have put a 40 top end on it and think I like the feel of the full DC mo betta. Of course these things are mostly in one's head!

  4. Seriously, pay close attention to what Cha-Lee says about how unimportant slide lock is on a Limited Division pistol. He certainly has the credentials to back up his opinions! As a former IDPA guy, I couldn't understand why all my new USPSA/IPSC buddies suggested I fix my guns to not lock back. Then, in a match, I began having what I thought we're clambering problems. Turns out something had changed in my grip interface and I was lifting the stop into engagement! Doh! I know that this is not the same fix that most reference when suggesting modifying the slide stop where it is employed by the magazine follower, as I've fixed mine where it locks into the slide notch so that my hand has no chance of accidentally lifting it. Apart from bagging the gun when accuracy testing at a public range, since I can't lock the slide back during cease fire, I'm not aware of any problem this may cause.
  5. I use a system which either duplicates or greatly resembles Cha Lee's. I run all brass thru a cut off Lee F/L die using the pusher device that comes in a Lee Bulge Buster. The BB doesn't take the base of the case down enough, in my experience. The results have been fantastic with zero problems for approx 3000 rounds. Although it wasn't strictly necessary to ensure chambering, it did allow loading to a soft 21 in my Tanfoglio Ltd. Previously, 20 was it. Oh, I also use a U die at station one in the progressive press.
  6. Load 40s to 1.220 or so and fire them in the 10 mm bll. Works fine, no issues, including the mags.
  7. Run long loaded 40s in it. You'll likely get "advice" that its dangerous... it isn't.
  8. Me no likee. Will trade for Henning checkered.
  9. All of sudden I'm having FTE problems in my open 38 Super. Been using rimless since new and now (5000 rds) have had a few problems. Did Henning's recommended extractor mod and thought all was well but had one FTE in a Steel Challenge match today. I'm suspection the hook that grabs the case rim is worn. So... need a new extractor and probably a spring but plan to get a 9mm one. Good? Blake
  10. Am pretty much the only Tanfoglio shooter in any of the local USPSA/SC clubs and take a lot of heat over that even though I finish most matches near or at the top. I have an LTD 40 and a LTD 38 Supercomp set up for open and both guns are a joy to use. Many fellow shooters looked at Tanfoglio (which they continue to call "Witnesses" and I hate that given the silliness of that particular importer, but stuck with the 2011 platform due to reliable parts supply, etc. I really didn't understand their concern as I considered Henning's an excellent source of magazines and everything tanfoglio and really prefer the guns. However... all that is changing. I can't get emails, phone calls or texts or even FB messages returned, I'm concerned that his office help is history (Lori was good) and now we're stuck with Paypal???? Seriously? Just placed an order using that spooky system and we'll see what happens. I hope I'm proven wrong, but poor communication IS a primary predictor of imminent business failure. I hope I'm wrong because I have had several good telephone conversations with Henning but that was some time ago. Like another posted, travel or being out of the country or really busy, etc is no excuse. Sorry but that's just the truth. 5/20: Henning's new employee, Jeremiah, called just now to clarify my order and seemed very professional. I'd forgotten that there are two follower lengths since the K40 mags burst on the scene and he wanted to be sure I got the right ones. I also heard Henning say "Hi" in the background so of course now I feel like a crank. Sigh. I guess all is well in Tanfo-Land after all and I can relax. Thanks!
  11. Rich Dettlehouser, Canyon Creek Custom, made it. It's a design he and Henning settled on apparently.
  12. What he said was that the short slide (not sure how short and/or if there are different lengths labelled short) ate barrels and that any advantage would be offset by the difficulty in obtaining replacements. He told me that I would be happy with a LTD Ti comped and I am. I actually think that we gun nuts spend way too much time agonizing over stuff like this and would be better served by shooting more and thinking less. As a side note, I had many Open shooters tell me that I shouldn't expect a new pistol to work right away and that I should expect a lengthy and vexing break in period. How ridiculous.
  13. Ti Comp and slightly shortened dustcover to reduce weight at the nose. Can't say much about it as I had it set up that way from the get go. Haven't miked case heads but notice they have a bit of a belly. Reload and chamber fine though. I use a U die but doubt its necessary. Haven't tried short slide as Henning recommended against it. Slide to frame fit is... generous. Probably not as accurate a piece as it could be welded up but I'm just shooting it for now. Fuss later.
  14. About 3K rds through this admittedly "industrial chic" looking pistol w/o any failures but one due to an extractor set up for 38 super when I'm shooting rimless (fixed). Several upscale 2011 shooters have been impressed with how soft it shoots (10 gr AA7 and 7 gr 7625 with 124s from MG and Xtreme). Great gun and a keeper. I'm just an "A" limited shooter but have been shooting way over my head with this pistol in Open.
  15. I think this should be apparent but just wanted to 2X check... to reduce length of pull on my LTDs I need only shorten the sear leg, yes? Don't need reduced reset, etc just want a slightly shorter reach to the trigger lever. Thanks! Blake PS: If anyone says "search" I will kill myself and that person will never forgive him/her self.
  16. I did a little math and assuming bullets travel in a straight line (no wind deflection to speak of) to be off 4 " at 50yd on at 25yd and the other way at 10yd (the math says 2.4") the scope would need to be off center by 4" And I doubt that is the case. I would start looking for things that may be loose. Mike I think this is true. It's off .070" only and I see now that can't be enough to matter. Back to the drawing board. Blake
  17. So I just got my new open gun, mounted the sideways c-more mount and noticed that while zeroed at 25 yds, it's printing a couple inches right at 10 yds and about 4 inches left at 50! Since I've seen this with long guns I knew to look to see if the optic was centered over the bore and it isn't. It's about 1/4" left of center. Is this common? I can shim it or shave a bit off the surface that is mounted to the frame and I guess it isn't that big a deal... but still.
  18. I know it's essential for leftys and also that is makes a great place for the left thumb during weak hand standards, etc but otherwise I haven't seen a cof where I needed to use it as an actual safety. It's in the way sometimes for me and wondered if there is a reason not to remove it. BTW... on my gun it doesn't hold the left side lever on. (Tanfoglio Limited and Open.)
  19. Are the configurations between the two platforms very similar such that a 'smith familiar with one is equally so with the other? I have an egw sear and hammer that I'd like set up in my Limited and the local guy does CZ triggers.
  20. Anyone had experience with this? I know the breechface is bigger but I suspect it would work ok for hoots and giggles. I'm about to have a super barrel from a limited ('smith using straight barrel for open comp install) and plan to try it. Assuming barrel fits, etc. (Silly, I know but bet it works.)
  21. He came, he saw, he conquered! What a great performance and result.
