  1. I just found this post which is old but I have to ask. I called GG&G and the machinist says he gets calls about this retrofit from the Benelli to the Beretta and says it will not work. Did you have to machine this part to fit the 1301??? It's more of an issue with the front ... Thanks, Racine
  2. It was a windless morning. The wind didn't pick up till after 3 pm, hours later.
  3. The last squad forgot to reset the last 4 targets. The CRO and MD argued that since those 2 shooters didn't make it past the halfway mark those un-reset targets were irrelevant. My argument, which was denied, was that the course of fire should be the same for every shooter regardless. What I'm seeing is even though they insisted on equal rules for every shooter to the RO briefings it did not apply in this case. What is frustrating is seeing some ROs there give reshoots to known local shooters for arbitrary reasons-again Outlaw 3gun... Thanks, Racine
  4. I don't know if they are still in business but I was able to find the stronger steel springs to refit and that has helped tremendously. I love these shell holders but I found some carbon arms that work almost as easy. You can also take the replaced spring and double up the others like I did and that works just as well...
  5. In retrospect what I've liked about the golf bag idea is that when weather comes in all my guns are protected from blowing sand, rain, etc. It was very cost effective and a way of recycling old golf equipment sitting around my garage.
  6. I was at recent 3 gun match, a shotgun stage. Several shooters never made it to the finish with a round count nearing 40. The first one to do so realized that 2 poppers were never set for our squad and got a reshoot. The question is, should the first shooters who did not finish from running out of ammo deserve a reshoot from unset targets? Or should they take the penalties for not finishing the course of fire and FTEs? It's interesting that a local club RO ruled for a reshoot as did a nationally recognized 3gun master but the CRO and MD did not.
  7. I think there are some guys who game the field by using the "muzzle" or watch the 180" recklessly. Case in point on a videoed stage showing the shooter well within the 180 being wrongfully distracted on 2 different stages by the same RO. This same guy was loud, profane and made rude sexist comments around women all day. Once he refused to approve his score time after it had been verbally confirmed with the RO in front of him. My choice is to shoot elsewhere or request a different RO when my turn comes up. The MD and CRO are not receptive or like this guy.
  8. Okay now that I've got them I'm having trouble loading more than 17 rounds with an 11 coil CZC Spring in that 140 CZC base pad. Is there a modification I'm missing??? Wow I must be having a senior moment. Does the retainer get used and is the retainer block installed in the back of the mag??? Thanks, I'm out of ideas. Racine
  9. Very sound tips. I do plan on a fourth and fifth mag, just right now. I've loaded for Glocks at 1.25-1.130 for years but I had to ask as I use 180 TC Molys and I'm glad to hear your experience. I may wait to see how the Springers turn out and go from there. Thanks again, Racine
  10. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I agree that the TF are bombproof but a pain to deal with in dusty, gritty ranges. I liked the Dawson base pads but I chose CZ bases based on these recommendations. I just got 3 CZC base pads and springs, IPSC magwell, FO front/adj. rear, Cajun metal trigger and will get the extended thumb safety when they get back in stock. The "medium" aluminum "extra thin" side panels are next as well. Thanks a bunch for sharing. BTW, CZC strongly suggests I load to SAAMI spec for 40sw. Is that your experience as well?? Best, Racine
  11. So once the magazine release is reversed, how are the right sided magazine releases and are the magazines good to go or are there modifications needed to the magazine bodies?? Kind of reminds me of working on A5 or Remy 11 shotguns.
  12. I just got one of these after breaking the slide on my 35. I started with reliable Taylor Freelances on those but loved the easy access of the Dawson's versions. Now with the CZ what company makes them with easy access for cleaning?? Thanks for any suggestions up front. I've read through the CZ topics to page 17 but still can't find a definitive answer. I'm grateful for suggestions.
  13. I thought that measurement for Limited or Tactical was 1"X 3"? The SJC is 1"X 3+" or am I measuring this wrong?
  14. Hopalong, When you said "..The break that I have holds the gun pretty much level..." what kind of break did you install? I'm readying my M1A stock for 3gun but mostly for fun. Did you add a ghost ring rear and NM front? Thanks.
  15. I'm considering purchasing a TS for Limited but would prefer a right sided mag release. Can the mag release be switched over for my trigger finger to hit? I'm also thinking that for lim. I may want to get a fiber optic front, extended base pads, metal trigger, a heavier extractor spring and metal guide rod. Any other suggestions? Thanks up front folks and have a Merry Christmas!
  16. OAL of ~1.136 +/- Taper Crimp of 0.380 Bear Creek Moly 125 gr RN WST 4.4gr Win.SPP Full Length case resizing The problem is that I get frequent failures to chamber with the bullet hanging up just before the ramp or bullets hanging up at the top of the ramp. I've eliminated 1 magazine (OEM Browning) but still unreliable. I just wanted to know if some of you old BHP shooters loaded them long or short. This recipe is from someone who shoots a custom 1911 for NRA Action Pistol. Thanks in advance.
  17. I'm starting to load 9mm for my young son who inherited a 9mm BHP and a P38 from his grandpa. I just wondered if anyone who's shot this Browning has a good recipe as far as OAL, crimp and such. So far I'm having reliability issues with proven specs for someone else's 9mm. I'd appreciate any help from some of the old IPSC guys. Many thanks!
  18. Your best bet would be to ask Bruce Gray directly. I remember someone doing that out on the west coast but I also recalled that reliability might have been an issue. I'd consider using original mags with extended base pads to get you to 20. The limiting factor for those hicaps are the plastic bodies that stretch and may not drop free when needed or perhaps be fragile. For as much as they cost, HK should have used Glocks metal liner to get durability.
  19. Plus I have a bit of Guatamalan surplus left but it doesn't group well. I am something of an ammo whore when it comes to 223. I don't like having less than 3-4K on hand if not more. I use different color P-mags to make it easy to tell what I'm shooting. Black for 55 gr and green for the good stuff, preload mags before match and usually don't need to reload them depending on round count. Kent, I also have some Guatemalan Surplus but I am finding it keyholes through my barrel. Any problems with yours??? Thanks, Racine
  20. I like the new features on yours. I got mine over 10 years ago and used it to shuttle 3 guns from state to state. I'm not a big 3 gunner but have had to use this to move or transport rifles/shotguns/pistols by plane. It's one tough mother. My only complaint is that I have to buy new foam everytime I want to use other guns. Besides that it's watertight and tough. Mine will hold rifle/shotty/pistol, rifle and pistol mags and a few accessories.
  21. Wow, that looks really nice! How secure is that mount? I ended up using sling material between the receiver and stock but it is not a quick detach like your option. I just wonder if having a fully loaded shotty, 6 in the caddy and 2 by the port will over power that QD socket? Another question I'd have is if you can position that QD socket closer to the front vs the rear of the stock.
  22. The loaded round that you are trying to extract (pull out of the barrel), and eject (exit the gun) doesn't have clearance to get out of the gun without getting jammed up. The round starts to exit the gun, but the nose of the bullet comes in contact with the forward edge of the ejection port. As the nose jams into the ejection port, the rearward motion of the slide pushes it into the ejector...exposing the primer to be ignited by the ejector. All of this requires enough energy to set off the primer (you are supplying that energy by pulling back the slide briskly). Flex, If what you're saying is the most likely scenario then USC is a dangerous proposal?? I see 30 guys at major matches USC the fast/regular way to 2 that do it slowly. I've asked Mr. Amidon and Mr. McManus their preferred methods and unless they've misunderstood me they do it fast as well. Probably the best way to shed light would be to do slow motion and telephoto video focusing on the primer area. If I'm asked to, I USC slowly, ejection chamber facing the ground with minimal fingers close to the port and let the round drop away from me.
  23. Actually I have been through the RO class twice. I thought about this hard and yes, there is no leeway for sweeping. Calling the RO a NAZI were the words of another RO present. I don't think you should startle someone who is sweeping either. In retrospect I suspect I DID NOT sweep myself but was coming close and say this as I recall moving very deliberately only to be stopped on my "3rd sweep" then ULSC. I wondered from the start why the RO had a smirk on his face with such a supposedly serious event. Don't take this statement as a denial but more a recollection. I don't blame this RO but myself. The comment was only to elicit a better way to protect and help the shooter. One RO present stated he would have kept a better eye on the shooter and prevented the DQ. I accepted the DQ but later events that seemed intended to intimidate other new shooters only reinforced that other RO's N word.
  24. I DQed at a match yesterday. Probably my 2nd DQ in 2 years. It involved shooting a classifier where a loaded gun and magazine sits in a cubby, you start in surrender. In the process of placing magazines and gun I suppossedly swept myself. The RO stated that he saw me sweep myself the 1st time but decided to call me on it on my 2nd and 3rd time?? I recognized the error of my ways even though my finger was off the trigger. I didn't argue though I was just pissed this RO didn't feel he couldn't say 'muzzle' to give me a heads up but instead wait till I supposedly swept myself '2 or 3 times?' Now I thought an RO is there to maintain safety and help a shooter NOT to DQ them. I spoke about this to another local shooter who is a member of that club. He agreed that he would have said muzzle or held the shooters arm and stopped him from DQing himself but mentioned that I got the "range NAZI" on that stage as he rolls his eyes. 3 stages later a totally new shooter I brought in was placed first to shoot so I was coaching him on strategy feeling his anxiety as a newbie. This same NAZI starts yelling to clear the range and to start the stage. I yelled back that the guy he was yelling at was THE 1st shooter and that he had the right to finish reviewing that stage before he shot. It's not like the newbie had taken his 5 minutes wasting time but we were discussing were NOT to break the 180. I've learned a valuable lesson from this but I sure as hell didn't appreciate this nazi putting a bad spin on 2 other shooters who were totally new to the sport.
  25. We have a local RO who upon the USC command insists on racking slower, hand away from ejection port vs. racking quickly to retrieve last round and catching it. I've queried serveral USPSA 'big guys' who've given me the okay to do this should I want to as they don't see anything wrong with the practice. I'm on the fence. I used to own a foreign made Star Firestar 40sw. I got rid of the gun, though I really liked it due to lack of replacement parts in the US and because the ejector started wiggling side to side. I decided it was riskier than other pistols who's ejectors are immovable. I eject the last round rapidly but avoid at all costs having my hand covering the port. I may be tempting fate but properly fitted guns should not detonate primers/bullets when USC. That fellows gun was an S_I of some sort so it seems difficult to imagine what may have gone wrong.
