  1. I bought about 4k of 45acp in 230 gr RN in Moly and I'm having problems with the bullets fully seating with the slide of my 45 SA and HK USP holding back about 3/8" with OALs of 1.245. How do you make this bullet fit without shortening the OAL too much??? My dilemna is that I'm currently using VV310 which tells me my OAL should be 1.260 for 230 gr RN & 3.7 gr of VV. I've shot 200 rounds of the Precision loaded to OAL of 1.230 and 3.7 gr of the 310 which seems to load and shoot okay but using Fed. LP primers how do you tell over pressure problems? I'd sure appreciate some help as I'm not sure how to proceed safetly... Many thanks in advance... Racine
  2. Thanks for your timely suggestions. I will try your method and report back. Racine
  3. I never even thought about the slide stop. Could this explain the straight groove running towards the flat point of the Precision 230 gr. RNFP??? I'm loading from 1.226-1.236 and having reliablility issues with the slide failing to lock the last 1/8th of an inch. My recipe is; VV310 4.0-4.3 gr, Pre 230gr Moly, Fed LPP, Starline brass shot out of a SA Loaded. Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. The SA will be used in lim. 10 class and NRA Action Pistol. Racine
  4. Cost approx. $2000 for upper and right now word is HK is trying to buy back the few that ended up in non-LEO hands. Racine
  5. Your right, I should have tested and very carefully inspected the barrel immediately upon receipt. I trusted this company to send me a good barrel right off the bat. I just cleaned the "barrel fouling", thinking this was part of their testing procedure, lubed it and put it away till I again picked up my hk. The issue I take offense to is the maker insinuating that just transporting the barrel to a humid location is grounds for pitting to which I responded that a "neglected" barrel would have been pitted INSIDE AND OUT! Posting a query on an HK website has turned up a similar experience for another consumer with this same maker. The makers final response to me was "...I just decided to reposses this barrel, cut you a check for the barrel minus a restocking fee, etc. & shipping. That will be the end of it. We will no longer do business together from here on in..." That was the extent of the customer service. I emailed the maker back REQUESTING the return of my prepaid barrel in order to just cut my losses since he assured me it was usable for competition despite the pitting and that he was just going to re-stock/re-sell it anyway. Three weeks later a got a check for the full amount of the barrel with an exception statement extending the 30day return period for me based on the condition that the invoice nor his website made no mention of 30 days. A frustrating experience comes to a close but I consider myself lucky I got most of my money back.
  6. I don't know quite where to post this question so I'll start here. I could really use some experienced advice here. I bought a NEW barrel for my HK USP in 45 acp from a notable barrel maker last December. Upon receipt, it was noted to have barrel fouling but otherwise clean on the outside. Having only purchased barrels from KKM Precision I was optimistic about this well known maker and did not give the "fouled barrel" a second thought. I cleaned it and put it away for the day in the spring I would again bring out my HK. My question is, has anyone ever purchased a new barrel from anyone with barrel fouling? Aside from a new handgun which always has some fouling, I've never seen this. It is my mistake for not inquiring from the manufacturer about this, but trusting a known name I did and did so in good faith. Three months later, prior to being used, I again cleaned and inspected the new barrel for testing. This time I noticed some pitting just before the breech and was both stunned and disappointed. I called the maker, gave him my report and promptly sent the barrel in for their inspection. 3 weeks later the manufacture declares that the barrel is pitted and probably rusted after being shipped to me. Being that it shipped to a humid state and that it was perfect when it left their doors, it had to be my fault. I commented that the barrel had never been fired and that if it was my fault then it should have been pitted inside and out. I have to pay 50% of the original price more to get a replacement. Other than that he reposseses my paid barrel, charges me 10% restocking fee + shipping (which I've paid for both ways?) and sends me a check for the remainder.? Anyone run into this? What would be the best way to resolve this problem? Any constructive information or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Racine
  7. I shoot with the Bolle' prescription inserts that I've had for the last 7 years. They are my medium strength glasses and work for rifle, and shotgun. For pistol I use my weakest and oldest set of glasses as I see the front sight very well. My newest script will give me a sharp long range target but I need to use the bifocals to see the front sight. My only complaint with the Bolle's is that the prescription lenses are too close to my eyebrow and lashes that they get smudged too quickly during a running match and that the lenses are made of polycarbonate which are the worst for visual acuity. Also I can't get polarized lenses for the bolles. I'd like to try the RB3's but can't find any in my area to try on before I buy. I also hear that the have polarized lenses which would be a big plus for trout fishing. Thanks to the many for sharing your experiences to us newer shooters.
  8. I saw a gunrag that did a consumer digest style comparison of alot of these. They compared the SKB (cracks easily, not water proof), the Pelican (handle and case can crack and case leaks), Browning (same as the Pelican), the super duty aluminum cases ( dent and leak big time) and the Starlight ( waterproof, tough as nails, cost less but heavy like the Pelican, lighter than the aluminum ones). I've had the Starlights for the last 5 years and flown with 3 guns everywhere. Once landed in the pouring rain and duffles were wet clean through, small samsonite had wet insides by the hinges but the starlight(soaking wet on the outside) was completely dry inside though lots of scuff marks that wiped off. A little heavy with 3 guns, red dot, some mags, a 223, 1100 and para... racine
  9. I think perhaps the Hogue is a bit misunderstood. I was initially skeptical but after using it found it to be a value. 1, they have to be carefully adjusted for your pistol (they fit glocks the best but will work with others). 2, having good contact with the very strong magnets is imperative. 3, there is no contact between the magnets and the slide as they are recessed into the material. 4, having the lock on will keep the pistol on your belt. I had a friend run into my glock and it moved but stayed in the holster. 5, using a heavy gun requires more magnets to hold the muzzle intact, perhaps double the number. They won't fit every possible pistol but for $90 they come close. After seeing pistols knocked and dropped out of a few other fancy holsters it occurs to me that the Power Speed is a good value, just doesn't look that expensive. But hey, it's just my opinion.
  10. Maybe this is what the English hate so much of us Americans. How we use so many colloquialisms ( is that even in the dictionary?) is I think a part of our multi-ethnic society but let me "...axe you dis..., can't we all just get along?" You know, you know, you know... I try to just learn to appreciate all the regional quotes and take them for what they are, regional. Don't mean to "...diss you..." but some times this is irritating. I myself don't appreciate those who use lingo that excludes others present from understanding. Just like foreigners using their language when they don't want you to hear... If they only knew...
  11. Thanks for the many timely replies. I'd like to see the national crime rate continue to drop despite the expiration of the AWB so they can attribute the drop to the increase in CCW acceptance nationwide.
  12. I've been researching this question for the last few hours and can't find any info on the ATF page on what relates to whether I can add a pistol grip stock to my post ban 1100. I bought what I was told was a preban 1100 and added a pistol grip stock due to a torn rotator cuff. I had to take it off after checking and finding it was a post ban gun. Current configuration is 8 round tube, rifle stock for Lim class. Thanks in advance for any and all help... racine
  13. I curious about trying this load in my G 35. I know this belongs in the reloading section but thought I'd get more response as it's more of a Glock question. So I'm curious about trying this combo of KKM supported barrel, Federal Primers, VV 310 and Moly Bullets of 180-200 gr to make major. Any suggestions from those that have tried it? WHAT WOULD BE THE LONGEST I CAN LOAD THIS IN MY GLOCK FOR RELIABILITY? Appreciate and suggestions or info you can share, thanks... Racine
  14. Haven't used this yet for a match as I'm giving the Glock some time off for the summer. It will fit regular mags fine but all my Taylor Freelances had to be trimmed on the contact edges to lock in with my trusty dremel. Nice big hole though and I think a big improvement over my previously trusted Lightning Strike magwell. racine
  15. Can I ask if anyone has tried using V V 310 with a 200 or 180 gr bullet out of a KKM barrel for a Glock 35? I'd be curious to see what your thoughts are. I heard of a master class shooter who blew up his gun experimenting with VV310 and 200gr bullets, I believed that the consensus was a double charge. I'm currently using VV320 w/ 180gr Moly Bullets (masterblasters) to make major. Thanks for any and all info folks... Racine
  16. Does that mean that by using the vibraprime I just drop in the primers and the vibration sets them in the proper orientation to load into the dillon tube, or do I still have to re-right half the primers like I do now? Guess when I'm trying to load 1K rounds or more this is a real hindrance. Thanks guys! Racine
  17. Any of you guys have a trick to load these into the primer tubes dillon makes quickly like the Winch. primers? They come packaged on their sides not up or down. Surely someone had figured out how to do this easily. I have to flip them over one by one the pick them up with the tube? Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks, Racine
  18. I bought a lb of 310 to try for a plastic gun in 45acp. I'm planning on using 198gr Moly coated RN bullets (Masterblasters) and starting at 4.2gr with an OAL of 1.246-1.250. I'm trying to get as flat a load as I can. Funny is that I just bought a VV hardbound loading manual that was new last Nov. and it doesn't have any info on N 310. I'll be shooting out of a 5.3" polygonal barrel. I'd sure appreciate any good suggestions and thanks in advance... Racine
  19. My HK USP barrel does lead badly. I now use Moly coated bullets and it still leads but not as bad as when using the "silver bullet." My KKM Glock barrel will still lead but not to the degree of the OEM glock barrel will. racine
  20. I had this problem frequently with my 550 but since I added a 45acp case to the top of the primer tube rod this problem no longer exists. Good luck... racine
  21. I shoot in limited class with a hicap 45 and wondered if anyone has ever gone to a full length resizing die for this caliber? Any Pros vs. Cons for this from anyone? Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. It seems that even though the 45 is a low pressure cartridge, I've still noticed how the brass seems to bell out towards the rim much like the 40sw which I got a full length resizer for. Some of my 45 barrels are chambered for reliability and thus are a little wider. Thanks again... Racine
  22. Good point Vincent! I do think some shooters would opt for this for rapid fire modes. Have you read the article? I think the writer does clarify that none of the safeties are disabled or did I misread it. Thanks for your valuable input nevertheless... Racine
  23. I'm just as curious but mainly on the Front Sight article that showed some drilling and installation of a screw to achieve the same effect. My question is I am having trouble visualizing the mods on the trigger safety itself. Can anyone share some photos on what exactly is done? Thanks in advance. Racine
  24. Someone had a design for modifying a golf cart that I thought was a great idea. I recently ran into a fellow at the Area 1 match in Bend this spring with one of those carts and it looked pretty nice. Hope that designer is reading and can share those photos again. If not I think if you could design a reworked golf cart/bag to handle 2 long guns and have room for a small bag, I'd buy it. Thanks, Racine
  25. Tom, no biggie here. That match was 2 yrs ago while visiting some friends in Pueblo and turning on a fellow shooter to USPSA and 3 gun. I was just surprised at how the shotgun rules were diffferent and when I asked I was informed that they were Rocky Mtn. 3 gun rules. It just seemed so skewed in light of the fact that Unlimited was a "no holds barred" while limited could only go 7, +1. I still enjoyed the match nevertheless. racine
